Sat 23rd March - Guiseley v Ilkeston - ko 3pm

.
Guiseley warmed up for their home game with Ilkeston with an important 2-1 win at Whitby last night. The victory strengthens their position for a playoff finish and leaves Whitby 11 points adrift and seemingly now out of contention.

The four playoff places now appear to be most keenly contested by :
Warrington       62 points from 33 matches
Hyde Utd         60 points from 34 matches
Marine             58 points from 33 matches
Guiseley          58 points from 33 matches
Macclesfield.   56 points from 31 matches

So Ilkeston go to Guiseley with all the pressure on the home team who will be desperate not to drop points.

Guiseley won 4-1 at the NMG in November, Ilkeston’s biggest home defeat.

Re: Sat 23rd March - Guiseley v Ilkeston - ko 3pm

Was thinking about this last night.

Ashton are in 8th with 2 games in hand. Their next 2 games Ratcliffe and Macclesfield.

So which team will be the unlucky loser?

Re: Sat 23rd March - Guiseley v Ilkeston - ko 3pm

Some teams are offering a discount for this Saturday’s ‘Non League day’ games – Radcliffe and Bradford Park Avenue, for example, are offering £5 for all. Guiseley are offering a discount, but only if you’ve got a Premier League or EFL season ticket …

Guiseley are currently 5th. Ilkeston are 13th.

Guiseley's record to date is :   P33. W17. D7. L9. F59. A47.  Points 58
Their home record is. :             P15. W9.  D2.  L4. F32. A29.  Points 29

Their average home gate is 616
Their top scorer is Gabriel Johnson with 16 goals

Guiseley are well placed for a play off position finish but their remaining seven fixtures aren’t easy. However, their next four matches are all at home.
They have to play : Ilkeston (H), Lancaster (H), Warrington(H) and Worksop (H),  Then Matlock (A), FC United (H) and finally Workington (A)

Fixtures : Sat 23rd March 2024
Bamber Bridge v Stafford
Bradford v Worksop
FC United v Basford
Gainsborough v Workington
Guiseley v Ilkeston
Hyde v Warrington
Lancaster v Marine
Macclesfield v Morpeth
Matlock v Whitby
Radcliffe v Ashton

Once again, there are some critical matches this weekend. As well as the promotion and relegation issues, teams in safe positions like Morpeth, Gainsborough, Ilkeston, Bamber Bridge, Workington and Matlock, will want to finish as high as possible

Guiseley had a big win in midweek at Whitby and they will want to build on that result against Ilkeston.  But Ilkeston have put in some decent away performances this season winning at Basford, Lancaster, Atherton, Gainsborough, Worksop and Stafford .

Guiseley’s last three home matches resulted in most recently a 1-0 win against Radcliffe, before that a 4-1 win against Morpeth and before that a 2-1 defeat against Macclesfield
Ilkeston lost their last away match by 5-3 at Macclesfield. Prior to that they won 2-0 win at Stafford and before that they won 2-1 at Worksop.

A home win is not a foregone conclusion.

Re: Sat 23rd March - Guiseley v Ilkeston - ko 3pm

Ilkeston have lost twice against league leaders Radcliffe: 0-3 away and 1-2 at home.

Guiseley have beaten Radcliffe twice: 4-3 away and 1-0 at home.

It's non league day and there could be a big crowd to watch Ilkeston spring a surprise.

Out watching the mighty Alnwick Town in the League Cup Semi-Final against Gosforth Bohemians (What a name!). All being well and we don't need extra time or penalties I should be back to do updates after half-time at Guiseley!

Guiseley corner now. Dixon sends Cursons away who goes down under challenge. Nothing given .Wafula shot blocked then a free kick given to Guisley to end the danger.    what an escape for Ilkeston  King with a goal line clearance and the ball goes safely into Yares's hands.    0-0.   13 mins

Another great save by Yates then Guiseley forward fires the loose ball over the open goal.
Pen given to Guisley for foul by Marshall who was wrong sided. The pen hits the bar.  it's still 0-0.  24 mins
