Sat 27 Apr 24 : Warrington Rylands v Ilkeston Town : ko 3pm

Our final match of the season is away to Warrington Rylands who are the only team that Ilkeston have not scored against. Rylands won 1-0 at the NMG back in November.

Will we be in the Northern Premier again next season or will we moved to the Southern League?  That is the question.

Warrington Rylands sack manager 3 days after appointing him

Football club sacks convicted rapist manager
3 hours ago

Sam Wilson pictured after his arrest in 2013
By Jonny HumphriesBBC News, Liverpool

A football club appointed a convicted rapist as its manager before sacking him three days later.
Sam Wilson was jailed for five years in 2015 for forcing himself on a woman after she had consensual sex with his friend. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.Warrington Rylands FC said in a social media post on Tuesday that it had terminated Wilson's contract by "mutual consent"."No further comment will be made by the club", it added. The 32-year-old, who had been a player at Rylands since 2021, stepped up to become interim manager in February. His appointment was made permanent on Saturday on a two-year contract.

Sam Wilson was jailed for five years

Rylands, which competes in the Northern Premier League at the seventh tier of English football, did not reply when asked by the BBC whether Mr Wilson's conviction was related to his departure. Mr Wilson confirmed his contract had been terminated in a phone call to the BBC. Asked why, he added: "You would have to take that up with the club."He ended the call when asked if the situation was related to his 2015 conviction. Mr Wilson had been appointed as interim co-manager, alongside fellow senior squad member Dean Furman, after previous manager Michael Clegg left to join Macclesfield.
Rylands had been in a rich vein of form since February, securing a play off place with six wins in nine games.
Mr Wilson was convicted at Manchester Crown Court two years after the rape at a flat his friend had rented for the night in Laystall Street, Manchester. The victim, who was 21 at the time, had met his friend at a city centre nightclub and went back to the flat. After she had consensual sex with his friend, Mr Wilson, who a court heard had never spoken to the woman and did not know her name, entered the room and raped her. She fled the scene in "distress" and contacted Greater Manchester Police. Speaking in 2015, Det Con Sophie Swift, from GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, praised the victim for her "bravery" in "facing down her attacker" as a witness in court.

Warrington Rylands have gone 19 games unbeaten away from home. That record could come to an end today when they go to Worksop

Warrington's final two matches are against Worksop and Ilkeston and they could lose both.

.
.Warrington Rylands v Ilkeston (final match of the season)

Warrington are currently in 4th position. A win against Ilkeston could lift them to 3rd if Marine were to lose their final match at Ashton and that would give them home advantage in the playoff semi final, so they have a real incentive to win. On the other hand they won’t want to pick up any injuries that might harm their playoff semi final chances just 3 days after the Ilkeston match.

From Ilkeston’s viewpoint 10th position could become 8th if we were to win and other results go our way.
The two teams above us are Guiseley and Lancaster. Guiseley are one point above us and have to play Worksop (A) and Workington (A). Lancaster are two points above us and have to play FC United (A).
Gainsborough currently have the same points as Ilkeston so could go above us if they get a better result than us. Gainsborough play champions, Radcliffe.

Warrington Rylands  have been in the top two for 26 weeks of the season but defeats in their last two matches against Lancaster and Worksop have seen them slip to 4th. The defeat at Worksop last Saturday was their only away defeat.

Their home record is not so good though : P19, W11, D2, L6, F30, A22,  Pts 35

Their home defeats have been against Radcliffe, Guiseley, Macclesfield, Bradford, Gainsborough and Lancaster

Warrington Rylands  average home gate is : 518.

Re: Sat 27 Apr 24 : Warrington Rylands v Ilkeston Town : ko 3pm

Just a few! See earlier post! It seems fashionable for teams in play off contention to have start to come off the bus.
Redditch - Manager up for drugs offences.
Warrington Rylands - Manager revealed as historical sex offender.
Mickleover - 12 points reduction for playing ineligible players, possibly Tyrell Waite.
Harborough Town - Points reduction for same offence as Mickleover.
Gateshead - Removed from play offs for a reason which is something to do with the ground which nobody seems to understand.

Football Lawyers are rubbing their hands and we have not started on the Premier League relegation saga and Forest love affair with VAR!

To be fair all this action will pale into insignificance when Manchester City go to court!

Re: Sat 27 Apr 24 : Warrington Rylands v Ilkeston Town : ko 3pm

It makes you wonder how Rylands did not know about his conviction. I am presuming they did not know and if they did and he has done his time should it have affected his suitability for the post? Absolute minefield!

The Stands at Gorsey Lane are fairly new as planning permission was granted June 8th 2021 as per the newspaper aticle below

Council passes plan for new stands at Rylands' Gorsey Lane
11th June 2021 By Adam Everett
Warrington Borough Council has given its approval for the scheme at Rylands FC’s Gorsey Lane. The development includes three proposed covered seated stands to the east and west of the football pitch, as well as new changing rooms behind the East Stand. These will replace existing temporary units fitted at Rylands Recreation Club.
“The new stands are of minimal impact within the context of their site setting, replicating the profile of existing stands on the site – thereby no different to that of the existing situation.
“It is of considered opinion that these new stands do not represent a compromise to any neighbouring situation and should therefore be granted approval accordingly.
”Some residents of Gorsey Lane had objected after raising concerns over parking and noise.
But WBC gave its consent on Tuesday, June 8.

It's Matchday for the last time this season. Over 70 fans are travelling on our two coaches to Warrington and there will be others travelling up by car..

It's going to be a tough game against a team in the playoffs but win, lose or draw it's going to be great day.

Re: Sat 27 Apr 24 : Warrington Rylands v Ilkeston Town : ko 3pm

I lived in Warrington for two or three years in the mid-eighties. Rylands as they were known then were in the Mid Cheshire League playing the likes of Manchester Polytechnic and Pilkington Recreation. One of my work colleagues played for them and he told me that they were playing one what were really park pitches. Warrington Town were in the lower reaches of the North West Counties League so you could say warrington was a football backwater. The big thing was the Wires the Rugby League who attracted big crowds to their ground then at Wilderspool. Football has come on along way in Warrington since I left. Is this a co incidence?

Technically speaking his 150th appearance could be regarded as today as he made two apps against Marske United and I have kept them on my records but if you are going to really picky you could suggest they don't count!!

I would just like to congratulate Matthew Yates and Declan Eratt-Thompson who have played in every league game so far this season for Ilkeston Town although one of Declan's apperances was as a substitute.

Re: Sat 27 Apr 24 : Warrington Rylands v Ilkeston Town : ko 3pm

Here we are at Warrington Rylands. The pitch is very open. there's only cover on one side of the ground and all the seating is low-level so not a great view. People are standing in front of the seats so everyone sitting down now has to stand to be able to see.

I'm not sure why James Perch is playing up front.

The teams are out.  Rylands in blue. Ilkeston in red

We're off.....

Ilkeston shot clears the bar. Great run by Brandy but his final pass is intercepted. Speculative shot by Brockbank is easily saved by Yates.         0-0    6 mins

Another great save by Yates From close range effort by Brockbank who had raced forward a long way. Rylands attacks are very sharp and they are looking the more likely to score.    0-0.     22mins
