Two months into the season we now have a better idea of who the best teams are. Most Ilkeston fans will be very pleasantly surprised that we are sitting at the top. We meet second placed Westfields this coming Saturday so we will then know how good they are. Third placed Worcester are in a rich vein of form and have to be a threat. Coventry Sphinx are an unknown quantity but what we do know is that they have the best defensive record in the league having only conceded three goals so far. Fifth are Sporting Khalsa who deservedly beat us on their ground and are very likely to be promotion challengers. Sixth are Walsall Wood who finished last season well ahead of us so we can expect them to be challengers too. Coventry United and Lye Town appear to be decent but inconsistent. 9th are Highgate who I considered to be likely Champions but they have only won four of their opening ten games. 10th are Boldmere St Michaels who gave Ilkeston a good game last Saturday and could make a challenge. Outside of the current top ten and showing good form recently is Quorn but they have some ground to make up.
It does appear that the Premier Division is quite competitive with more teams capable of beating each other than there was in Division One last season so the race to be Champions is wide open.

We are now at 17th October and these are the revised tables.
In terms of points dropped there are some significant changes in rankings compared to the normal league table. Sporting Khalsa have now dropped the fewest points, one fewer than Ilkeston. Khalsa and Ilkeston have now opened up a gap between themselves and the other teams. Quorn who are 12th in the conventional table are 5th in terms or points dropped while Westfields who are 2nd in the conventional league table are 10th in terms of points dropped.

I still think Sporting Khalsa are the biggest threat. They mentally bullied us at their ground and their strange 3G pitch is not going to be easy for any teams to cope with. Worcester City are the form team and after Saturday we should be able to assess how good they really are. Interesting games coming up!
