Northern Premier League - Review of Saturday's opening games

The two standout results of the day were Mickleover's 3-1 win at Nantwich and Marine's 2-1 win at Barwell. Our Derbyshire locals Buxton and Matlock both did well gaining a win and a draw respectively. Grantham got a good point at Skelmersdale with ex Robin Curtis Burrows getting the equaliser. Of the teams expected to set the pace, Ashton got off to a good start winning 3-1 at Frickley, Workington won 2-1 at Rushall and Warrington beat Stourbridge 2-0. Sutton Coldfield had to play their opening home game at Eastwood where Whitby led with an early goal but conceded a last gasp equaliser. The attendance at Eastwood was only 78. The two highest gates were at Blyth (561) and Corby (525)
