MAGUIRE PENS NEW CONTRACT
Laurence Maguire, the club’s longest-serving player, has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract. Manager James Rowe is very pleased to have concluded the agreement. He said: “We are delighted to secure Laurence’s signature for the next two-and-a-half years .“He has remained loyal during the transfer window with other opportunities available higher up in the pyramid. “When Laurence and I discussed the future and what he wants to achieve personally and for our club, along with analysing his performances since my arrival, we had no hesitation in getting this done. “Maguire, who is celebrating his 24th birthday today, said: “It’s a massive step for me, having been at the club for so long. I have been here since I was 15 and I love the club and the fans. “Now the new gaffer has come in, hopefully we can get back up to where we want to be.”Maguire has made over 100 appearances for the Spireites since graduating from the academy and turning professional in 2015.

MAGUIRE NAMED AS CHESTERFIELD’S CSALS CHAMPION
Laurence Maguire has been named as the club’s CSALS champion, helping to raise awareness of the charity which was formed to raise awareness of the need for more people with first aid skills.Laurence will represent CSALS in local schools in visits organised by Chesterfield FC Community Trust.
Commenting on his new role, Laurence said: “I think that more people need to start getting involved in first aid training and I am very happy to be associated with CSALS.”
After completing the free online first aid course, which is provided by CSALS in partnership with Virtual College, the 24-year-old defender said: “It’s a really good course, which is very helpful. It’s easy to follow and I’ve learned a lot from it. I’d urge anyone to do the course. I’d feel more confident about being able to administer first aid now. I’ll be honest and say that I wouldn’t have really known what to do previously but since doing the course I feel that if anything occurred now where someone required first aid, I’d be able to help.”
Dr Cheryle Berry MBE, chair of CSALS, said: “We are delighted that Laurence has accepted our invitation to represent CSALS. “As someone who went to school in Chesterfield and graduated from the club’s academy to become a first-team regular, he is a great model, and we look forward to working with him.“We are also grateful to Chesterfield FC and Chesterfield FC Community for providing us with valuable support.”
CSALS – Community Save a Life Scheme – has a proud association with Chesterfield FC. A Guinness World Record was set by the organisation at the home of the Spireites in 2016 when 1,795 people participated in a first aid lesson.
