Long Eaton Utd resume in FA Vase

UPDATE ON OUR FA VASE FOURTH ROUND TIE    BY ROB MCNEIL

Long Eaton United will face Herefordshire based side Westfields FC at Grange Park in the Buildbase FA Vase Fourth Round Proper  Following the FA’s announcement at 5 pm today regarding the FA Vase, we can now confirm that the fourth-round tie against Westfields will go ahead.  However, it comes with news that the tie must be played behind closed doors, so sadly fans will not be able to attend.

The FA released this statement: “Unfortunately, the current understanding from DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) is that spectators for non-elite football will be under the same categorisation as outlined for all spectators in the government roadmap.  “Therefore, unless informed otherwise, all matches in the Buildbase FA Vase will need to be behind closed doors until no earlier than Monday 17th May 2021.”  Although fans cannot attend, the Blues would still love your support on the socials, because after a three month wait Long Eaton can now look to reach the Fifth Round of the Buildbase FA Vase for the first time in the club’s history.

The fourth-round draw took place on Monday 21st December 2020, and the Blues were drawn to play against Hellenic Football League Premier Division side Westfields FC at Grange Park. This fixture was planned to go ahead in January this year, but unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic prohibited this from happening. The pandemic has since continued to affect non-league football, as Long Eaton saw their season in the Midland Football League Premier Division once again cut short and curtailed.

However, the recent update from the FA finally delivers some good news for the Blues - the FA Vase will go ahead. The FA announced that the dates in which each round will be played are as follows:
Third Round Proper – Saturday 10th April 2021
Fourth Round Proper – Saturday 17th April 2021
Fifth Round Proper – Saturday 24th April 2021
Sixth Round Proper – Saturday 1st May 2021
Semi-Finals – Saturday 8th May 2021
The Final – Saturday 22nd May 2021

As both Long Eaton and Westfields already progressed through the Third Round Proper, beating Hanley Town and Radford FC respectively, the fourth-round tie is due to go ahead on Saturday 17th April.  Grange Park will play host to Westfields behind closed doors, but we will provide updates closer to the time of the fixture.  We thank all our fans for their patience and hope that they can all get behind the Blues on social media as the match draws closer.

Match Report :
Sat 8th December 2018  -  Midland Football League  Premier Division
Westfields  1  Ilkeston Town  2
Ilkeston bounced back from their FA Vase defeat with an important win against second in the table, Westfields. Jamie Walker gave Ilkeston an early lead and Elliott Reeves scored the winner 15 minutes from time to strengthen the Robins position at the top. Westfields defender Paul Hurrell was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card in added time. Ilkeston’s opening goal on 9 minutes followed a foul on Reece Fyfe some 30 odd yards out. Walker took the kick and it found a way through and into the bottom corner of the net. Westfields drew level on 30 minutes through Craig Jones with a goal which also came from free kick. Jamie Molyneux was fouled just outside the area and Jones’s kick found the net via a deflection off the wall. Molyneux then had a chance himself but fired straight at Liam Mitchell. Aidan Thomas had an even better opportunity from a counter attack but scuffed his shot. Five minutes into the second half Walker was in on goal but fired over and at the other end Aidan Thomas had a shot blocked with the deflection going just the wrong side of the post. On 55 minutes Mitchell did well to keep out a goal bound Westfields header. Hurrell then picked up his first booking for bringing down Fyfe in a dangerous position. Carlos Moreira latched onto a cross but fired over as Westfields pressed for a second goal. Mitchell made a spectacular save from Ben Miller before Ilkeston scored against the run of play. Chris Shaw had a flicked header cleared off the line but when Tom Marshall retrieved the ball and crossed, Elliott Reeves was there to head in what proved to be the winner. Ilkeston had to defend the final ten minutes but they nearly got a third goal when Kyle Dixon burst through but was denied by a last ditch tackle.

Re: Long Eaton Utd resume in FA Vase

Never forget this game it had it all, goals, last ditch tackles, near misses , superb saves and the cold wind.
The grouo supporters took a full coach to this game and I saying to everyone the guys need us today. It was a cold gusty day which I thought would ruin the game . How wrong was I . We had wind behind us in the first half . After going ahead I thought we can do this but just need another goal. But no Westfields to their credit draw level .
We all knew the second half we would be under the cosh and we were . Brilliant tackles and superb saves kept us in it.
I was just on the phone to Alex Middleton when we scored our second . I think I must have deafened poor Alex with the live commentary. All second half around ten of us kept singing in tiny covered terrace on he side of the pitch. It was well worth it .
At the end of the game the players came over to us which we loved going mad with joy at the result. But one player I aimed for ......a forward a midfield player ? No ... It was the keeper Liam Mitchell I congratulated he was the motm for me by far and I told Liam that. His reply " that means a lot thanks"
Great day , great football by both teams in a gusty day
Loved it

Long Eaton prepare for FA Vase 4th Round match against Westfields with a friendly against Loughborough Dynamo

Long Eaton United FC welcome Northern Premier League South East side @lborodynamofc in a friendly at Grange Park this Saturday.   Kick-off is 2pm, but unfortunately, the game will be played behind closed doors.   Preparations for the FA Vase!

From Loughborough Dynamo website :

DYNAMO TO FACE LONG EATON IN FRIENDLY  BY KIERAN KING

Loughborough Dynamo will play their first game since December when they travel to Long Eaton United in a friendly at Grange Park on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).The Moes were last in action against Birstall United when they ran out 7-1 winners but Long Eaton, who play in the FA Vase on April 17, will likely pose a bigger threat this weekend.

Lee Attenborough is looking forward to the game despite having no competitive action to focus on until at least August. He said: “We’re looking forward to it!  We’re going to train or play at least once a week through April and May before having June off then going at it properly in July. I think getting the lads in for eight to nine sessions is great. “It gets us all together with the legs moving and having had that long off, we just want to play. We trained last Saturday, we have game this weekend coming up and a few more lined-up later on so it will be nice to get back onto the pitch that’s for sure.”
