516 watch Halesowen Town v Sutton Coldfield Town friendly

.

Here is Sutton Coldfield’s match report

MATCH REPORT -  Sat 29th May 2021
HALESOWEN TOWN 2 - 0 SCTFC    BY ALEXANDER MOLONEY
Mark Sanders reports as Sutton finish the 20/21 season with their last post lock down friendly.

It was a glorious no sunny day at The Grove, where Sutton took on Halesowen in their second friendly. This ends the current season before preparations start for the new one. Sutton played with a lot of energy and a fast tempo to start the game, but they soon found themselves having to defend a free kick following a challenge by Dyer which was deemed to be a foul. Gwilliams was called into action plucking the ball out of the air before any Halesowen heads could connect.  Dwyer popped up in the Halesowen half weaving in between defenders before laying a great ball to Nesbitt who fired just over the bar.  Gwilliams dealt well with another Halesowen free kick before they finally breeched the Sutton defence. On 38 minutes, the ball was drilled across goal towards the back post by Cobourne. It was an easy tap in by Holmes to make it 1-0. Despite going in 1-0 down at half time Sutton had played really well and deserved to be level.

The second half saw Halesowen move up a gear, and on 55 minutes a good counter attack saw Sutton go down 2-0 with a goal from Molyneux. Halesowen nearly made it 3 moments later, but Gwilliams made a fine double save, the second while still on the ground from the first.  Sutton had few chances in the second half, but overall showed much improvement from the week before, it was a good game for both teams to build up their match fitness. It’s always tough not to get anything from a game, but today was not about results. It was more about building fitness for the lads, and also to help find potential players for the coming season.

It was great to see Sutton playing again, and that for most of us, is more important than any results at present. Our next home game is against Bromsgrove Sporting on the 10th July. This is the beginning of a new series of friendlies before the new season starts. It will be here before you know it, so book the date and join us at Coles Lane.
Thank you all for your continued support.
