Daventry v Ilkeston - Tue 24 August '21, ko 7 45

Next up it’s Daventry Town away and I really hope that Ollie Brown-Hill gets a game.

In their opening games Daventry have drawn 2-2 with Chasetown, won 4-2 at Histon and lost 5-1 in the FA Cup against Cambridge City.

Re: Daventry v Ilkeston - Tue 24 August '21, ko 7 45

OFFICIAL HISTORY OF DAVENTRY FROM THEIR WEBSITE

DAVENTRY TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB 2016-2021

Brief Recent Club History
Daventry Town FC is a community-based Football Club operating as a Not-for-Profit Organisation since June 2016.
Since the previous owner, Iain Humphrey handed all control of the Football Club to a small group of supporters in 2016, the club has gone from strength to strength, both on and off the pitch.
On the pitch, the club has made a successful return to the Southern League after winning two league titles in just 3 seasons. This was under the shrewd management of former Town player, Arron Parkinson ably assisted by former Town keeper Matt Finlay. The club has also won both the UCL Knock Out Trophy and the Buckingham Charity Cup for the first time in their history and were due to play Kettering Town in the Northants FA Cup Final before COVID-19 intervened.
The club has also started a Reserves team which will reap dividends, in the near future, nurturing youth team players prior to them moving up to the first team. A Ladies team also returned this season and they improve with every game they play.
The Junior side of the club is also on the increase with over 350 local children of all abilities playing or involved with the club.
Our Annual Summer Super 6 Tournament is now one of the best in the Midlands drawing teams from all over the country to the Town. In 2017, over 200 teams attended the weekend and next time, we plan to hold an additional weekend for Ladies, girls, disabled and walking football Super 6 tournament.
From September this year, we will start our exciting partnership with the Parker EACT Academy and Daventry 6th Form College to start of our own DTFC Football Academy.
All of the above now means that the club have a clear football pathway and cater for all abilities from 4 years of age up to 70 plus.
In the community, we have teamed up with local professional footballer, Ryan Haynes, and our projects to make sure no child in Daventry goes hungry during school holidays and also our Christmas Food hampers which were handed out to just under 100 of those most in need at Christmas time.
At the heart of the club, we were fortunate to have inherited a fantastic clubhouse facility, something that always brings comments from our visitors and guests. This is being  used on a regular basis for Weddings, Parties, Wakes and is the centre of our own functions such as the DTFC Music Festival, Bingo and our Charity Boxing Night.
Currently, and for the best part of the last year, like most businesses, we are on hold. The Clubhouse remains empty and quiet. We hope the NHS will take us up on our offer to use the facility
So a massive thank you to everyone who has helped or is helping in any of the above and getting this club back on its feet in such a small period of time, be it as a supporter, a sponsor, holding or attending a function or by just calling in for the odd drink now and again.
As we are mostly volunteer based, we always need additional help, if you can help even if it is just for a few hours a month then we would welcome your involvement
We are also looking for local businesses to get involved with the club helping it to continue with its growth and future community based projects.

DAVENTRY TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDED 1886
Leaving the “Hollow” in the centre of the town in 1990 when the club moved to its current home at the Elderstubbs, the club’s fortunes suffered a devastating blow in 2005–06, when the Elderstubbs clubhouse and changing rooms were destroyed by an arson attack.
Iain Humphrey took the helm and work began to revitalise the club with the introduction of new floodlights, walkways and other infrastructure to support the clubs promotion ambitions
2007–08 was a very successful season for Daventry Town. They won UCL Division One, losing just once, and defeated three Premier division teams en route to the League Knockout Cup final, where they lost to Desborough Town 3–2.
In the season 2009–10, Daventry won promotion to the Southern League Division One Central, by becoming champions of the United Counties League under the guidance of manager Ady Fuller. Daventry Town reached the last 16 of the FA vase, the final of the NFA Senior Cup, beaten by Corby Town by 3 – 2 and the semi – finals of the UCL KO cup before Captain Paul Saunders lifted the UCL championship to secure Daventry Town a coveted place in the Southern League for 2010/11.
Under the guidance of Ady Fuller and assistant Paul Lamb, their first season in the Southern League almost ended with another promotion however they lost in the play off final to Hitchin Town.
Former Aston Villa, Charlton and Republic of Ireland international Mark Kinsella became manager in the summer 2011 however his season long spell was unsuccessful and former Daventry United/Ford Sports Manager Darran Foster was appointed with Neil Champelovier as his assistant and Paul Dempsey as coach in 2012.
Daventry Town made history in 2013-2014 by reaching the First Round of the FA Cup, a visit to Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium their reward. They were eventually beaten by 2 – 0 in front of over 700 of their own travelling supporters and a crowd of over 5269. Town also reached the first round proper of the FA Trophy losing 1 0 to Maidenhead United.
Town reached the final of the Northamptonshire Senior Cup – Hillier Cup beating Cogenhoe United, managed by Andy Marks, 3 – 0, Scott Cross (2) and Luke Keen scoring the goals.
Town had been season-long favourites for promotion from the Southern League Division One Central in 2013 -2014 but the back log of fixtures caused by the cup runs took effect. They lost the promotion play-offs at the semi-final stage at Kettering Town, narrowly beaten 1-0.
Darran Foster resigned as manager on 30th October 2014 following budget cuts and was replaced by former Watford, Oldham and Preston star, Allan Smart. Former Manager Ady Fuller was appointed as his Assistant Manager with the bulk of the players supplied by Smart’s London based Academy.
In the Summer of 2015, the club were moved to the Northern Premier League Division One South and with Smart and the players based in the South, het resigned in July 2015.
Darran Foster returned to Daventry Town as Manager just nine months after resigning however he also resigned on Easter Saturday after a 5 0 home defeat to Kidsgrove Athletic.
Club Goalkeeping Coach Derren Midson and the Club’s Juniors Development Officer Pete Flockhart stepped in as Caretaker Managers with Brian Porter returning as Club Secretary to ensure the club somehow completed their remaining 6 fixtures of the 2015/2016 season.
In a move planned to reset the club’s financial problems, Town took voluntary relegation to step 6 football and the club returned to the United Counties League Division 1.
In April 2016, Steve Tubb took over as Chairman.
On the 12th May 2016, the club appointed Arron Parkinson and Andy Marks as joint managers. With a zero budget for the season, the team management have worked wonders in turning the club around and winning the UCL Division 1 title, unbeaten at home.
Andy Marks left the club at the end of the season due to family and work commitments. Ian King joined Parkinson as Joint Manager in May 2017.
Town finished the 2017/18 season in 10th position, winning the Buckingham Charity Cup for the first time in their history.
2018/19 saw the return of the Reserves managed by Andy Emery. Ian King left to join Northampton Town Academy. Arron Parkinson took over as Manager with goalkeeper Matt Finlay as his Assistant Manager and Pete Harris coming in a Club Coach respectively.
After an excellent start to the league season and two FA Cup wins scoring 16 goals in the process. Arron Parkinson was awarded the UCL Manager of the Month for August 2018.
Town ended 2018 with a 2 0 victory at local rivals Rugby Town.

Re: Daventry v Ilkeston - Tue 24 August '21, ko 7 45

ALTERNATIVE HISTORY

Daventry Town were formed in 1886 and in them days and up to the sixties the team was based on lads from the very small town as it was in those days. They played in the Northampton Town League drifting between Division One and Two without really setting the world alight, and at times struggling with the U.C.L. clubs who took the best players from the town. Long Buckby and British Timken were at the top of local football, Daventry Town continued to struggle......

In the eighties under a few different Managers, the Committee of the day set too, they decided to appoint a Manager to change the club's fortunes, the man was Willie Barrett. He opted to change from the Town League to the Northants Combination. His side duly won Division One (1987/88) and were runners-up in the K.O. Cup. Promotion was always the key as we needed to be in the Prem to gain U.C.L. Status.

In 1988/89 we duly won the Premier Division and gained entry to the U.C.L. Division One which we won at the first attempt, and were runners-up in the NFA Junior Cup. We were not allowed promotion to the Premier Division as our new ground was not ready.

In 1990/91 we won the U.C.L. Division One title and the NFA Junior Cup, this was a great achievement for a club that was going nowhere at the turn of the eighties.

Still under the guidance of Willie Barrett we entered the Premier Division and we finished a creditable fourth place and were runners-up in the K.O. Cup in the first season in the Prem. In the second season we struggled on and off the pitch and Willie Barrett left the club and at the end of the season we took voluntary relegation back to Division One. Managers came but none ignited the flame and the club faded into the background of local football.

In October 1998, a new Chairman arrived, Melvin Knowles, and things on and off the field began to improve. This will now only continue to get better now we have one of the best Management teams in the U.C.L. and they have proved it last season by winning the Daventry Charity Cup for the first time in the Modern History of Daventry Town FC.

Good times can only lay ahead for this famous old club.

Re: Daventry v Ilkeston - Tue 24 August '21, ko 7 45

DAVID BEVAN
The only player that we can confirm played for Daventry Town and Ilkeston Town was David Bevan. He started his career and at the age of 19 was loaned out to Ilkeston Town in 2009. He made four appearances for the Robins.
After a spell at Walsall where he made his Football League debut, he moved to Daventry Town in 2011 and made twelve appearances. He was last recorded playing for AFC Rushden and Diamonds in 2014 but at 32 is still young enough to be active somewhere.
He also played for Saturdays opponent’s Bedworth United

Re: Daventry v Ilkeston - Tue 24 August '21, ko 7 45

.

Having dropped three points against Sporting Khalsa it's important that we get back winning ways at Daventry tonight.
It's very early days but every point is vital in a league that looks like being closely contested.
Tonight's opponents, Daventry, are a bit of an unknown quantity but they've got off to a good start and have a point more than us.

Of the pre-season predicted frontrunners, Stamford, Belper, Corby and Ilkeston have each lost a game and Cambridge have lost two.
Halesowen have maximum points giving them an early advantage so It would be good if Bedworth could take points off them tonight.
We’ll keep a close eye on Bedworth v Halesowen during tonight's live updates from the Elderstubbs ground.

The other matches are of interest too :
Khalsa v Coleshill  -  both have started surprisingly well and sit 2nd and 3rd with maximum points each
Stamford v Loughborough - could be a tricky one for Stamford.
Sutton Coldfield v Chasetown - both with a win and a draw so far - Chasetown could be dark horses having sent out a warning by beating Belper 3-0.
Wisbech v Histon - both clubs looking for their first points.
