Ilkeston Town v Corby Town : Sat 6th Nov '21, ko 3pm

.

Next up :  Corby Town (home)

The long road that leads to promotion continues on Saturday with the visit of Corby Town to the NMG.

Corby were expected to be among the front runners this season but they are only mid table.
Their record is :  P12  W5  D1  L6  GF18  GA15  Points 16
Their away record is : P7  W2  D1  L4  GF10  GA10  Points  7
They won their last league game beating Sporting Khalsa 3-1
Their leading scorer is Stephen Diggin with 10  goals in all competitions.
They have good support with an average home attendance of 421 so hopefully  they will bring a decent number of supporters to the NMG.

It’s a game we need to win to maintain our promotion challenge.

These are the this weekends matches involving our promotion rivals
          Spalding Utd v Halesowen
          Carlton v Histon
          Chasetown v Loughborough
          Coleshill v Soham
          Yaxley v Belper
          Stamford v Wisbech

Carlton, Coleshill, Belper and Stamford have easy looking matches.
Halesowen have what could be a more difficult match at Spalding but they will be keen to return to winning ways after losing to Ilkeston.
Chasetown could be surprised by Loughborough depending on which Dynamo team turns up. Come on Curtis Burrows, do us a favour.

After our massive win at Halesowen, we deserve a big crowd for this match. There should be a fair few travelling from Corby so it's going to be a great atmosphere.

Kev -  Do you mean, Why have I posted this?

No particular reason. It's from their website and it's always been there. It's not only just appeared.  They just want all supporters to know that if they come to watch Corby, they will be in a safe environment.  Nothing more than that.

We have played Corby Town 12 times in league encounters and once in the FA Cup and twice in League Cups. Our first encounter was in 1971 and it took us twenty-five years to register our first goal against Corby and twenty-six years to register our first victory. However since that win in 1997 we went ten years undefeated until we lost our last encounter with men from Northamptonshire in 2017.
In the league we have won four, drawn four and lost four. In the cups we have won 2 and lost only one but the game we lost was a thumping 8-1 FA Cup defeat in 1973.

I wish I knew how they work that out but first place will do for me. Even promotion via the play offs will be a fine consolation however!

Re: Ilkeston Town v Corby Town : Sat 6th Nov '21, ko 3pm

Out of the last five games Corby have scored in all but one of them , the ones they have scored in are against , Histon ( which tbh you should  score against them ) Won , Coleshill Lost,   Chasetown Lost and Sporting Khalsa Won....So scoring against the last three makes me think . yes this is going to be a hard game win.
Corby are 7th in the form guide !!

Re: Ilkeston Town v Corby Town : Sat 6th Nov '21, ko 3pm

.

We should expect a tough game against Corby.  They have conceded only 15 goals in their 12 league matches played so far. Only Halesowen and Carlton have conceded fewer.  They have kept 4 clean sheets and only Halesowen and Coleshill have scored more than two goals against them.

Their record so far includes four matches against the 'top seven' teams and they have lost all of them

Stamford (away)        lost  0-1
Halesowen  (away)    lost 0-3
Coleshill   (away)       lost 2-4
Chasetown (home)    lost 1-2

We need to score first or it could be a frustrating afternoon against a resolute defence.

Ilkeston free kick wide left edge of area. Maguire header is saved. It's a lively star but not much goal action

Most of the play is in Corby's half but they now have a corner. Maguire clears.  It's raining steadily. Sandy sees Durrant off his line and tries a lob but its too high. Really good effort though.         0-0      15 mins

Good attack by Corby but Durrant is there to gather. Cracking effort by James Clifton has Durrant back pedalling but the effort from distance is just wide. Heart in the mouth moment, I was waiting for the net to bulge. Corby are no pushovers           0-0      25 minute

Great interception by Fenton  Corby threatening now.  Goodson forces corner at the other end. Good save by keeper from Ilkeston header.  Free kick Ilkeston on corner of area. Fenton free kick hits the bar.  So close.
