My opinion:

I expected this to be a tough game and in the first half it was. It was an even first half in which we didn't have many chances but scored three goals. The second half we were much better, created far more chances but only converted two of them. That's sometimes how games go. But what a great result. We could have had a hat full in the second half when great use of subs tightened our grip on the game. Every player and sub contributed.

Loughborough Dynamo 1 Ilkeston Town 5
Another storming victory, their sixth on the bounce, took Ilkeston to the top of the table for the first time. Dynamo’s average home attendance was tripled as large numbers of Ilkeston fans made the relatively short journey to Loughborough for what looked like a tricky test.
Zak Goodson got Ilkeston off to flyer with a header on 5 minutes. The hosts fought back and Ross Durrant made a fine double save to stop them equalising on 13 minutes. Ten minutes later Durrant rescued Ilkeston again saving a thumping Tristan Matthews effort. Ilkeston were close to a second when Jared Bird saw a shot go just wide and Alex Troke’s volley was blocked on the line. Ilkeston doubled their lead on 40 minutes following a fine passing sequence finished by Goodson. Loughborough could have felt aggrieved to be two down at that point but matters got worse when Kieran Fenton fired a free kick perfectly into the top corner of the net a minute before half time. It was nearly four when Joe Maguire’s glancing header almost flew in at the far post as Ilkeston finished the half strongly.
The second half was less frantic than the first with both sides producing flowing moves. Charlie Wakefield was behind most of Ilkeston’s attacking moves as the Robins asserted control. Troke had two shots saved before Remaye Campbell fired narrowly wide. On 64 minutes Troke made it four from Bird’s pass. Campbell had a terrific effort pushed behind by Ruben Rabstein who then saved from Wakefield. Sub, Ollie Brown-Hill was introduced and made an immediate impact creating opportunities for both Campbell and Webb. Dynamo created a good opportunity themselves on 83 minutes forcing Durrant into a fine save but three minutes later Ilkeston scored a fifth. Brown-Hill and Webb combined to set up an easy finish for Campbell but in the final minute Loughborough deservedly got one back through Sacha Markelic.
Ilkeston’s rise to the top of the table is mostly down to their impressive away form, now unbeaten in eight games.
