Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Have We Met Before?
Ilkeston Town first met todays opponents in 1995 when a brace for Mark Harbottle helped to give the Robins a 3-2 win at Cambridge. Harbottle also scored in the return game in a 2-2 draw. Ilkeston Town beat Cambridge in their next encounter in 1998 but have since been unable to win in the next nine meetings. Overall Ilkeston have played the Lilywhites on twelve occasions winning two, drawing seven and losing three. The Robins have scored fourteen goals and conceded seventeen.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

.

Saturday 20th November we welcome Cambridge City to the NMG as we try to extend our six game winning run

Cambridge are currently mid-table:  P15, W5, D4, L6, F20, A18,  Pts 19
Their away record is :                        P7,  W3, D1, L3, F10,  A7,   Pts 10.

They appear to be a defensively strong team who don’t score many and don’t concede many. Their record is similar to Corby Town who were the last visitors to the NMG.

City are unbeaten in their last four matches with  one win and three draws
Sat 13  Nov   Corby Town              (away)   draw  1-1
Sat   6  Nov   Sporting Khalsa        (home)  draw  1-1
Sat  23 Oct    Daventry                   (away)   won   4-0
Sat  16 Oct    Shepshed Dynamo   (home)  draw  3-3

Cambridge City are a big club biding their time while the building of their spanking new ground takes place. Completion is due by the end of the season so could possibly be ready for our visit on 2nd April.  The new ground will give them a massive boost.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Should win this shouldn`t  we ?   Cambridge`s form isnt too good with winning one in the last six and that was against Daventry , But form means nothing on match day as i always say .

Game of the day has got to be Chasetown v Carlton

                                                                  ********************************************************************************

Here are today’s matches in our league

Bedworth v Yaxley
Chasetown v Carlton
Coleshill v Spalding
Corby v Loughborough
Histon v Halesowen
Ilkeston v Cambridge
Shepshed v Sutton Coldfield
Soham v Sporting Khalsa
Stamford v Daventry
Wisbech v Belper

Yes Kev, Chasetown v Carlton is the match of the day. A draw with both teams dropping two points would do nicely.
Histon have taken points off Carlton and Stamford in their last two games. Surely they can’t do the same against Halesowen.
Coleshill should see off out of form Spalding and both Stamford and Belper are unlikely to slip up against their bottom five opponents.
In my opinion Ilkeston v Cambridge is not a home banker. Although Cambridge are only mid table they have given all of the top teams a good test losing by only a single goal in each game.

They lost 1-2 against Halesowen
They lost 1-2 against Coleshill
They lost 0-1 against Carlton
They lost 1-2 against Belper
They lost 1-2 against Stamford

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Good defending by Williams when Cambridge produce a good attack. Cambridge are looking good so far.  Wakefield sets uo Goodson but a defender gets in the way of his shot.         0-0     21 minutes

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Fenton blocks Swift's effort. Zak is down after feeling an elbow but it may have been accidental. Volley by Davis is too high following good counter attack. Good effort by Robson goes wide from another Cambridge break.         0-0        31 minute

Troke breaks into area finds Campbell, but Cambridge eventually clear.   Stong start by Ilkeston.

Campbell only just offside as flag rescues City.  Chapman thunderbolt crashes against the post. What a strike!   Ilkeston are piling on the pressure         Gate 731          2-0       60 mins

And its a penalty for Ilkeston. Cambridge don't like it.  Troke takes and its a terrific save by Daniel George.   Still 2-0

Troke long shot is just too high after seeing keeper off his line. Wakefield shot hits defender to end a fine Ilkeston passing move.      2-0    68 mins

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Troke header from Campbell cross goes wide. Another top save by George Prevents a certain goal for Goodson two yards out.  Its very open now with both sides trying to get the next all important goal.     2-0       79 minutes

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Ilkeston are piling up the corners. Header from the corner skims the bar. Keeper needs treatment.
Troke replaced by Webb. Ilkeston are attacking in waves down the right. Some really threatening moves.
Chapman replaced by Brown-Hill.     2-0    82 mins

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Not a vintage display but respect is due to Cambridge who were a decent side

Into a tough wind turning round 0 0 would have been ok but being gifted the opener helped things plus Cambridge’s 8 getting injured helped because he was their best player

Thought we had a great penalty shout turned down first half too

First 15 minutes of the second half was very good though. A superb cross from Troke for goal two. Then if we convert the pen or either of the headed chances shortly afterwards I think we’d have gone on to score 5 or 6

But ultimately it was comfortable. Teams around us dropping points again sees us 3 points clear with a good run of winnable games ahead

MOM for me was Jared Bird who is getting better every game as his fitness builds. Bird Chapman Wakefield is a formidable trio
