Tuesday night football (7th Dec) is Sporting Khalsa v Carlton

.

Carlton will be smarting after Saturday's crushing defeat against promotion rivals Stamford which has left them outside the top five and nine points behind Ilkeston. They can reduce the deficit to six points if they win their game in hand against Khalsa.

Sporting Khalsa will want to capitalise on their win at Histon. A win against Carlton would lift them to 8th their highest position.

Carlton's last match :

FIRST HOME DEFEAT FOR MILLERS, TOP SEVEN BRUTAL SAYS BROOKBANKS!

Carlton Town Joint manager Tommy Brookbanks admitted today that it appeared that at the moment that there are 7 teams in the division who have been brutal and relentless in winning points at the top end of the table and any 5 of those 7 look like being in the promotion mix at the end of the season. Carlton’s trick is to make sure they remain among those 7 and ultimately the crucial top five.

Carlton suffered their first home league defeat of the campaign and only their second of the season so far going into December and Brookbanks told us.

“Normally our record would have you at least in the top 3 at this stage if not the top 2, but the standard is really high this season and in particular from the top 7 teams and if any one of us slips up, you look at the results and pretty much all the other teams unless they are playing each other win and that is a repeated pattern at the moment week on week”

Brookbanks remained upbeat despite the 3-1 defeat to a good Stamford side and will be hoping Carlton can pick up points in their two games on the road this week, starting with Sporting Khalsa on Tuesday night and Bedworth Town on Saturday.

The club will run more coaches as the season progresses but have not planned to for these two games in the Midlands, but are still obviously hoping for continued good support from an away contingent. Tommy also expressed his delight at Saturday’s gate, with once again over 160 inside the Bill Stokeld Stadium.

Result :  Sporting Khalsa  2  Carlton  1

Khalsa's win was a good result for us. It's a double blow for Carlton following their Saturday defeat against Stamford.  It doesn't exactly put them out of the promotion race but it's a setback. Carlton are now nine points adrift of Ilkeston having played the same number of games. They are one point outside the last playoff place occupied by Stamford but have played a game more.

                                                 Played         Points
  1  Ilkeston                                18                44
  …………………………………………………….
  2  Belper                                  19                43
  3  Halesowen                           17                39
  4  Chasetown                           17                38
  5  Stamford                              17                36
  …………………………………………………….
  6  Carlton                                 18                35
  7  Coleshill                               17                34
  8  Sporting Khalsa                   17                26

Carlton Town FC  @CTFC1904:
Sporting Khalsa 2-1 Carlton Town   Another below average performance saw Khalsa run out deserved winners.
Not good enough as simple as that.
Thank you to the
@CarltonFans that made the journey on such a horrible evening
Goal: Danny Elliott

DECEMBER 8, 2021

CHANCE AFTER CHANCE GOES BEGGING AS MILLERS GO DOWN TO SPORTING KHALSA

On a cold and bitterly winters night at Sporting Khalsa , Carlton took a first half lead through substitute Danny Elliot, a stunning strike indeed !

Carlton looked in control but Khalsa upped the antsy in the second half and Carlton fell away conceding 2 goals including an equaliser from a header that saw the Khalsa player completely unmarked in front of goal.

Carlton rallied at 2-1 down and missed at least 4 guilt edge chances in the final minutes, one at least of those chances should have been converted to give the Millers a point, but it was not to be and the once again impressive away support who had stood behind the goal in the monsoon conditions in the second half went home on this occasion gutted that their team had not forced an equaliser.

Another concern is a mounting injury list with both Martin Ball and Tom Maddison going off with what looked like concerning injuries, Maddson in particular looked in a bad way

Saturday sees the Millers back on the road with a visit to Bedworth United, a team who sit just 3 places in the table below them with an excellent home record, so the tests just keep on coming!
