Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Shepshed Dynamo
Have we met before?

The first time we visited Shepshed it was to play the very successful Shepshed Charterhouse. They beat Ilkeston 2-0 and followed it up 4-0 win in the FA Cup a few weeks later. In fact Ilkeston played Charterhouse a total of five times and never recorded a victory and lost all five encounters scoring only three goals and conceding fifteen.

Ilkeston then had a fourteen year break from the torture of their annual defeats against Shepshed when they entertained Shepshed Dynamo in 1996. Scott Huckerby, Paul Eshelby and Jason Kabia provided the goals in a 4-2 win which was the Robins first over Shepshed. The winning run has continued since that game and Dynamo have never recorded a victory in their fourteen games against Ilkeston.

Their latest defeat was last season when the clubs met in the FA Cup and Alex Troke 2 and Zak Goodson provided the goals in a 3-0 FA Cup win.

Shepshed were promoted from step 5 last season following the non-league reorganisation and they have successfully made the step up.

Apparently, their Leicestershire neighbours, Quorn, also applied for promotion and were unhappy that Shepshed got the nod rather than them citing their superior ground and facilities.

Shepshed's record so far is : P20 W6 D8 L6 GF 31 GA 31 Points 26
Their home and away records are identical :Won 3 Drawn 4 Lost 3.

Shepshed have shown some great form in their last 4 matches, all of which have been against top seven teams:
Dec 18   Carlton (A)        draw  1-1
Dec 14   Chasetown (H)  won   2-1
Dec 11   Haleowen (H)    won   2-1
Dec 04   Coleshill  (A)     draw  0-0

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

.

Every next game is crucial when you’re in either a promotion or relegation situation. We are one of seven closely matched sides who are all capable of achieving that promotion goal. The pressure of winning the next game is even more increased because of the threat that COVID could cause the season to be curtailed at any time. If that happens then points per game at that point could decide who goes up. Our next game is also vital because it comes on the back of five dropped points.

It's also worth reminding ourselves that our recent Boxing Day results have not been good. We’ve not won a Boxing day match in the last five years.  The below results were very disappointing to say the least and the Mickleover match was embarrassing.

          2020  No match (COVID)
          2019  Carlton  (Home)                   lost 2-4
2018  South Normanton (Away)    lost  0-3
          2017  No match
          2016  Mickleover (Away)               lost 0-7

PREVIEW: SHEPSHED DYNAMO V ILKESTON TOWN
BY SHEPSHED NEWSDESK  17 HOURS AGO  by Kevin Gibson

Shepshed Dynamo welcome Ilkeston Town to The Dovecote Stadium Bank Holiday Monday 27th December in the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midlands Division kick off 3pm.

Shepshed will be looking to take their current unbeaten run into 2022 and extend it to five games on the bounce without defeat. They will need to show the determination they have shown in the last four games with players out due to suspension, unavailability and Jack Rogers unable to play against the club he has been loaned from to increase their exceptional eight points from twelve in December. Which saw them move up a further place to eleventh after their latest point away at Carlton Town last weekend with a Leke Shodunke equaliser three minutes from time and an injury time penalty save from Brandon Ganley.

This maybe their toughest test of all the sides they have met before them in December as Ilkeston enter The Dovecote Stadium as current leaders of the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midland Division one point ahead of Chasetown and Belper Town who have played one game more. The Robins have played 20, won 14, drew 3, lost,3 on 45 points, scoring 59 and conceding 22. Of those draws and defeats one of each have come in their last five results losing 4-2 to Sporting Khalsa who have done the double over Ilson this season winning 3-2 as well. Their other defeat was 4-3 to Chasetown and the draw was 0-0 last weekend with Stamford. Their other two draws were 2-2 with Belper Town and 1-1 all with Carlton Town. The other three results in their last five were all victories. A late winner over Yaxley 1-0, 2-0 against Cambridge City and 5-1 over Wisbech Town. They boast the second highest scorer within their squad in Zak Goodson who has scored 14 and two former Dynamo members Wayne Halcro who made in the region of 10 appearances for Shepshed and was part of the coaching staff and Forward Alex Troke who scored up to 9 goals for Dynamo in over twenty appearances in the 2017/2018 season.

Both teams have changed names on more than one occasion and have met under one form or another 22 times in the past. The most recent was in last seasons Covid affected year in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round 12th September 2020 with Ilkeston winning 3-0 at The New Manor Ground. The last time the two teams met at The Dovecote Stadium under the current names was 7th August 2018 Ilkeston winning that one as well 2-3. On that day two current members of Shepshed's squad were on the scoresheet for Dynamo Jake Betts and Karl Whymark. The first ever meeting of the two teams was back in Shepshed Charterhouse's era Shepshed winning 3-1 at The Dovecote Stadium in the Northern Counties East Premier Division. Of the 22 meetings Shepshed have won 3, Ilkeston 15 and 4 draws.A large crowd is expected at The Dovecote Stadium on Monday as The Robins not only have a large away following but the two clubs supporters have a strong bond with each other since our visit to The New Manor Ground in March 2012.

Admission on Monday is £9 Adults, £4 Concessions and Under 18's £1. Please note it's cash payment on the turnstile as well as Programmes £2 and the Goalden Goal £1 (First and last goal count to the prize)

The game will support Shelters #nohomehit campaign (http://https://youtu.be/5hAxAVWcDn8), and so Dynamo will be wearing the all yellow away kit.The clubhouse which accepts cards (Minimum payment £5 will be open and the snack bar and club shop will be open prior to the game.

For those unable to attend live updates throughout the game will be on the Clubs official twitter page and the BWA on Tour facebook page.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas and looking forward to seeing you up The Butthole for an exciting afternoon Monday 27th December.

                                                                 """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Well done Kevin Gibson -  An excellent Match Preview !

Hope a lot of Ilkeston fans are able to make the comparatively short trip to Shepshed.  We need to really get behind the team to end our Boxing Day hoodoo.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

.

Our pursuit of promotion continues at Shepshed and will be in front of an inflated and partisan Boxing Day crowd. We will really need our supporters to lift the team for this important match.
Confidence is reduced following a defeat and a draw but it is is essential that we start another winning run as soon as possible. Shepshed away won’t be an easy place to start but we have to win if we want to stay in top spot at the turn of the year.
The defeat at Khalsa was no more than a blip, the result could have gone either way. The draw against Stamford was actually a good result as we stopped a major rival gaining three points on us.
So a win against Shepshed will set us up for an interesting January month with two matches against promotion rivals and two long distance away trips.
We really do need to go into the Halesowen match with confidence as they will be well up for it just like Stamford were.

January 2022 fixtures :
Sat 01  Jan   Belper Town (home)
Sat 08  Jan   Histon  (away)
Sat 15  Jan   Sutton Coldfield  (home)
Sat 22  Jan   Soham Town Rangers  (away)
Sat 29  Jan   Halesowen Town  (home)

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

.

Now that Christmas Day is done and we all need to some fresh air why not make the short journey to Shepshed and support the team. If you don't you'll wish you had. It's bound to be another cracker.

Shepshed are unbeaten in last four
Ilkeston have no wins in last two
Ilkeston never win on Boxing Day
I sense a change of fortunes and a high scoring game.

Just looked at the weather forecast for Shepshed tomorrow. -  7 degrees and 40% chance of rain. We can cope with that.

Here we go again for the last match of 2021. Fortunately it's stopped raining or the match could have been in doubt.

The pitch is saturated but the referee has decided it's playable.

Been told that Shepshed are missing a few players

Tommy Wiliams apparrently stuck in traffic ; thats why he's named as a sub.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

First corner to Ilkeston. Its headed out for another. Bennett sees keeper out of goal but puts it wide. Shodunke goes down in area but it's a slip not a penalty.   Good effort by Fenton hits a defender and goes for s corner
Massiah gets on the end of a cross but Durrant saves           0-0      21 mins

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Think it was Zak who gets a shot in but keeper is well placed. Shodunke is Dynamo danger man. Goodson finds net but it's offside. Ilkeston just edging it in the mud at the minute.       0-0       30 mins

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Melbourne shoots from edge of area but its too high. Another Ilkeston corner. Good block by Dynamo defender. Great interception by Irvine.       0-0     37 mins

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Zak nearly finds Campbell but keeper gets there first. Remaye pulled back when seemingly through. Dynamo player booked. Dynamo given a free kick in good position. Bit generous in my opinion. Header for free kick goes over the bar.     1-0     57 minutes
