Soham Town Rangers v Ilkeston : Sat 22nd Jan 2022

.

This is our longest away journey. Soham are second bottom so it should be a comfortable three points. But games like this can’t be taken for granted. Any match can be a banana skin.

Soham have only won two of their 12 home matches so far, one of which was against Histon last week. Their other home win was against Daventry.

Their best results have been a 1-1 draw against Chasetown in October and a 2-2 draw against Stamford last month which shows that they are capable of raising their game.

SOHAM TOWN RANGERS LAST MATCH

Suffolk
News

In the Northern Premier League Midlands Division Soham Town Rangers managers Lloyd Groves and Matt Clements had called on their players to 'stand up and be counted' in their first game in permanent charge.
Ollie Ward (22') and Hilton Arthur (42') both scored in the first half in a result which crucially saw them leapfrog their opponents to move off the foot of the table, though they are only above Histon on goal difference.
Soham had three new signings in their squad with Morgan Seaman starting while Jesse Airen and Joe Thomas both came off the bench. And the side duly responded in a 2-0 east Cambridge derby victory over Histon at Julis Martin Lane (att: 227) for only the Greens' third league win of the campaign and first since September 25.

Thanks Kev Thats just what I was going to say!! If you have any more technical problems Alex switch it off and back on again and then ask a young person i.e. 16 to 25 year old and they will make you feel really incompetent but will talk you through your tech troubles and usually eventually sort it for you!

JUST IN CASE WE THOUGHT WE'D GOT AN EASY GAME SOHAM HAVE A NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM AND SEVERAL NEW PLAYERS

Soham Town Rangers make a winning start to life under new management team   By Liam Apicella

Matt Clements (left) and Lloyd Groves (right) won their first game in joint charge of Soham Town Rangers. Picture: Mark Westley

It is still very much early days, but joint manager Matt Clements was delighted with how things panned out during his first game in permanent charge of Soham Town Rangers. Clements and fellow boss Lloyd Groves were part of the coaching staff under previous boss Robbie Mason, who departed with the Greens bottom of the Pitching In Northern Midlands Division and without a league win since September 25.
That victory was against Histon and by chance it was the Stutes who were the visitors to Julius Martin Lane on Saturday, when a 2-0 win lifted Soham above their Cambridgeshire rivals.
There is still plenty of work to be done – Soham are seven points from guaranteed safety – but the first steps have been encouraging.
Clements said: “It wasn’t a must win because there are still plenty of matches to play, but there is no doubt you pinpoint certain matches you think you can win.
“No disrespect to Keysy (Lance Key, manager) or Histon – because they would have been thinking the same – but this was one of those games.

Hilton Arthur is congratulated after scoring Soham's second goal against Histon. Picture: Mark Westley

“It was a good performance and the result is really pleasing. It’s a positive start and there is plenty more to do, but at least it will help to build some confidence.
“It’s important you don’t get too low with the lows and too high with the highs – that’s the way we’ll keep going.”  New signings Morgan Seaman, Jesse Airen and Joe Thomas all featured in the squad against Histon, with recent arrivals Sidik Atcha, Julien Saka and goalscorer Hilton Arthur also included.
Clements is hopeful of adding one or two more fresh faces during the coming days – and believes bolstering the squad gives them the best chance of surviving.
“We needed to freshen it up. As a collective – players, myself and Lloyd – we all let Robbie down and I’m honest enough to say that,” he added.
“But what do you do in this situation? You’ve got to act quickly and we’ve done that. “These players we’ve got in are not just good players, they also don’t know anything about what’s gone on here over the last four months.
“They’re not lacking confidence and they can come in and play carefree football.
“The players that are still with us, it might ruffle a few feathers initially but we need that. Hopefully they’ll help each other along and it will bring a fresh dynamic.”
The good feeling generated by last weekend’s derby win is set to be severely tested on Saturday when table-topping Ilkeston Town are the visitors to the Lane (3pm).

NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW OF THIS WEEKENDS FIXTURES

Midlands Preview: Promotion Hopefuls Looking To Avoid Upset

 about 6 hours ago  By James Gordon

The top three all face bottom-half opposition this weekend, none of which want to drop points in the race for the title.

League leaders Ilkeston Town travel to second from bottom Soham Town Rangers.

Halesowen Town, sat in second only on goal difference to Ilkeston, have a harder task as they face 13th-place Yaxley.

Only three points behind in third, Chasetown will aim to keep the heat on the top two. Histon are the hosts for the Scholars, they sit rock bottom of the league, seven points off safety.

Wisbech Town, who make up the bottom three, will have eighth place Bedworth United travelling to the Fenland Stadium.

Fourth play fifth in a hotly anticipated tie - Belper Town and Stamford are only separated by three points as they fight for a play-off place.

Carlton Town will hope to carry on their impressive away record. The Millers have only lost two away games and their opponents, Loughborough Dynamo, are without a win in two.

Just above the relegation zone in 17th, Daventry Town will host mid-table side Spalding United.

Level on the points with the Purple Army, Sutton Coldfield Town clash with Sporting Khalsa.

Shepshed Dynamo will hope to avoid another draw, after nine already this season, when they play Cambridge City at the Dovecote Stadium.

Meanwhile, Coleshill Town, without a win in four, take the trip to 15th-place Corby Town this weekend.
