Ilkeston v Halesowen : Sat 29th January 2022

.

As far as I’m concerned this match may well decide who gets automatic promotion, us or Halesowen. A win for either team makes them favourites. Both teams know this so it’s going to be like a cup final.

I have a feeling though, that the most important thing for both sides will be to avoid defeat.  A draw keeps both sides in the race and opens the door for Chasetown who still have an outside chance of finishing in the top spot.

A draw between Ilkeston and Halesowen would allow Chasetown to get within one point of both teams and they still have to play both Ilkeston and Halesowen.

Realistically, we are now pretty certain to finish in the top five but this match is about avoiding the lottery of the playoffs. We go into the Halesowen match on a run of nine home games unbeaten (8 wins and 1 draw). Halesowen have won their last five matches and have the  best away record in the league. So both teams have momentum.

It looks like there will be massive support for both sides and another bumper gate. Get there early to avoid queuing.

With at least five busloads of supporters coming from Halesowen and with Derby and Forest not playing (both playing Sunday) I'm reckoning that we might beat the Belper attendance. It should be a cracking atmosphere and we're going to need extra stewards, extra parking and a police presence.

The long awaited clash against Halesowen is now only days away. Both teams come into the game on the back of five goal victories. The anticipation is immense. The New Manor Ground will be bulging, the terraces will be throbbing and the noise will be deafening. The clocktower end, with it’s hotbed of unrelenting support could be our 12th man.
The two sides are neck and neck with only goal difference separating them.
Both sides will be desperate to win and will be even more desperate to avoid defeat. A draw would probably be more advantageous to Ilkeston as they currently have a much superior goal difference.
I think the last time we had such a massive invasion of away supporters to the NMG was when FC United of Manchester came with about 700 fans.

MATCH PREVIEW ON HALESOWEN WEBSITE

Ilkeston Town v Halesowen Town

Northern Premier League – Midlands
Saturday 29 January 2022 – 3pm  New Manor Ground, Awsworth Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8JF
Adults £10, Concessions £7, Under 16’s Free

Halesowen Town Football Club now get ready to travel over to the New Manor Ground to take on Ilkeston Town, in a top of the league clash.

Last time, The Yeltz were at The Grove when they took on Yaxley, who have picked up in form in recent weeks.  It was Paul Smith’s Yeltz boys who started the quickest when Gregory got the opening goal on the 8th minute and Halesowen kept up the attack and Gregory got his second just before half time, taking The Yeltz into the break with a 2-0 lead.  Second half Rob Evans, did what he does best and came down the channels into the box to beat the keeper to make it 3-0.  Just two minutes later Sim took his turn to get on the score sheet and nicely finished to make it 4-0. Right on 90 minutes Manning finished the game off with his goal to give The Yeltz all three points and a clean sheet, keeping us joint top with 54 points, in front of another big crowd of 926.

Last time out for Ilkeston.  They were away against Soham Town Rangers,  it was the hosts who took the lead early on the 3rd minute, it took Ilkeston 20 minutes to get their first goal when Zak Goodson brought them level.  Charlie Wakefield got the second goal for Ilkeston on the 40th minute taking them into half time with a 2-1 lead.  Second half Adam Chapman got the first of the half on the 47th minute.  The hosts Soham got the next goal from the spot on the 74th minute, it stood at 3-2 to Ilkeston until the 90th minute, when Adam Chapman got his second on 96th minute and Remaye Campbell got the 5th for his side on the 97th minute.  Ilkeston Town stay joint top with The Yeltz with 54 points.

Lets all get behind The Yeltz boys with the massive Yeltz following we are taking over to Derbyshire, and help the boys bring all three points back to The Grove and take top spot.  #UpTheYeltz

Do you know what?

Halesowen manager comes over as a top bloke and spoke the truth. We are both good sides and the league will not be won on Saturday. What we also have to remember is chase town are only 3 points behind both sides.

It's going to be a fantastic game I hope with a fantastic crowd supporting both teams.

Message for travelling Halesowen supporters :

Away travel to Ilkeston Town Saturday 29th January

HALESOWEN TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB can now confirm that all 5 official coaches to Ilkeston Town are now sold out. This will mean over 270 fans travelling by coach with approximately the same number making their own way to Derbyshire. Ongoing roadworks outside the Grove coupled with the fact that our U-21 team have a game on Saturday morning mean that we have had to make a few changes to our usual travel arrangements. The car park at the Grove will be unavailable to supporters to park, if using on road parking please be respectful of our local residents.

Coaches will be in place at 12pm with a departure time of 12.15pm at the following locations.
Coach 1 - will depart from the Grove
Coaches 2, 3, 4 & 5 - will depart from opposite Earls school on Furnace Hill
If you still have to pay for your seat please come and see Jackie in the JG Lounge either on Friday between 11am and 3pm or on Saturday between 9am and 11.15am.

On arrival at Ilkeston you may be subject by a search and you are reminded that it is an offence to take alcohol, pyrotechnics or anything considered to be a weapon into the New Manor Ground. This is one of the most anticipated games in our league and we are sure both sets of fans are looking forward to a cracking game of football, let's enjoy the game and let football be a winner.
If you are unsure which coach you are on please contact Jackie .

                                       ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Message for Ikeston supporters

There is real possibility of a very large attendance for this match.
The fleet of supporters coaches from Halesowen will be arriving at the NMG around 2pm. There will be extra turnstiles in use to reduce queuing to get into the ground but it's recommended that our supporters arrive before 2pm if at all possible. If coming by car it's extremely advisable to arrive early in order to avoid the inevitable traffic congestion around the ground.
If you cannot arrive early, It would be most helpful if as many supporters as possible could:
1/  walk to the ground or
2/  arrange to be dropped off near the ground or
3/  park well away from the ground

The last thing we want is for our supporters to miss out or be inconvenienced. Please plan your unmissable day.

Re: Ilkeston v Halesowen : Sat 29th January 2022

.

It’s been pointed out to me that whoever wins the big match, it doesn’t make them Champions. There’s still 13 matches to play after this one so there’s time for fortunes to change. That may be true but if there’s a winner on Saturday, their destiny is in their own hands. The losers would be relying on another team doing them a favour.
This is one of those matches that could go either way. Both teams are capable of putting on a match winning performance. Both teams have momentum and both will be up for it.
I’m taking Ilkeston to win because we have the better goal scorers. We are the league’s highest scorers and the goals have come from several players. Zak Goodson, Remaye Campbell and Alex Troke are all into double figures with midfielder Charlie Wakefield not far behind. Add to that, new signing Montel Gibson and we look sure to score goals.
Halesowen top scorers are Kyle Finn and Richard Gregory with 10 each.
Ilkeston also have a really strong bench giving us options if we need to change things. Add to that home advantage and I think we can win.

Re: Ilkeston v Halesowen : Sat 29th January 2022

I am going 2-2 Troke pen and Goodson for us! Halesowen to score first and then we equalise then they go 2-1 after a defensive howler. Then with ten minutes to go kicking towards the Clocktower Zak Goodson who had so far done very little. Gets the ball takes it inside two Yeltz defenders and bends it in to the top corner from the edge of the area. We have a chance in the last minute but miss it when it would be easier to score. man of the Match is Chapman but the fans vote for Zak again cos they love him and he wins games (or rescues draws). Crowd 2,287. We have a big love in with the Halesowen fans and everyone goes home happy!
That it sorted!! Hardly worth going now we know the result!

Re: Ilkeston v Halesowen : Sat 29th January 2022

Tomorrows games throw up some interesting games.

In the Northern Premier League Premier Division like the Midland Division there is a top of the table clash between South Shields and Matlock Town. Also like at the NMG there should be a bumper crowd at this fixture. Basford United will leap frog over opponents Morpeth Town if they can win all three points.

In the National League Notts County have a must win game but tough away at high-flying Bromley.

Our game is the biggest game of the week in the Northern Premier League Midland Division and both teams will be desperate for a win.

The big day is here. The meeting of two great football clubs, both with brilliant support. It's going to be a very noisy and exciting afternoon and unbeatable atmosphere.
The knowledgeable MarkDuffy has predicted a goalless draw.  I don't think so!
This could be one of the all time great NMG matches.
500 are coming from Halesowen and hundreds of Derby and Forest supporters are also coming.
Don't miss it.  Be there if you can.

Re: Ilkeston v Halesowen : Sat 29th January 2022

If Montel Gibson starts today's game he will be making his 29th start in an Ilkeston Town shirt. He joined Ilkeston in 2017 and made his debut in the newly reformed Ilkeston Town's first ever game away to Uttoxeter Town. He went on to start 28 games and made three appearances as a substitute, scoring a total of 15 goals. Montel who at the time had not got a driving license found it almost impossible to get to training from his home in Birmingham and moved to Redditch United later in the season.

Ten minutes to kickoff.  The ground is looking pretty full and they're still coming in.

Halesowen fans are packed behind the car park goal.

Terrific atmosphere as the teams come out to very loud applause

Halesowen are in yellow shirts and blue shorts.  Ilkeston in their home kit.
