Looked like from we were the sending off was harsh as Joe slipped first but i have been informed it was a sending off . But can anyone just before that the was a obvious ( but not to the ref) back pass which their keeper picked up .  Very scrappy game with the ref hell bent in showing his whistle all the bloody time at every free kick. Playing against ten men their was looking to a draw why else would walk to fetch every ball , not once did he rush sensing a win. I think theres going to be a few more matches like this . Seems like we have lost our way a bit  but coming away with points .  A massive game yet again against Spalding next week where we will HAVE to be strong ....

Ilkeston’s automatic promotion hopes suffered a blow after another red card and this time it proved costly with the loss of two points. Despite protests, Joe Maguire’s attempted tackle on Marcus Cole just before half time was deemed to be a denial of a goal scoring opportunity. 
Ilkeston had the first scoring chance when Montel Gibson’s cross was met by Maguire but his header was wide. Histon’s best attempt was a shot from Ed Rolph that Ross Durrant turned round the post. An effort by Charlie Wakefield clipped the outside of the post and the same player was close again when he beat two defenders but saw his shot blocked. Histon had a lucky break when a fairly obvious back pass was picked up by keeper Sam Roach and it went unpunished. Ilkeston seemed in control when Maguire’s dismissal changed the game. The defence had to be shored up causing Ilkeston’s attacking options to be compromised.
The second half was very stop start with numerous free kicks resulting in neither side being able to produce flowing moves. Although a man down Ilkeston never looked like conceding but neither did they look like scoring and Histon seemed content with a draw. The closest to a goal was Jared Bird’s free kick which was heading for the top left corner of Roach’s net but the keeper did really well to push it round the post. Roach was then in the right place to save a James Reid volley. Histon replied with a good effort by Finley Wilkinson which brought a fine save from Durrant and Bubba Camera had a late chance for the hosts but again Durrant made the save. The two points lost means that Ilkeston’s lead at the top of the table is now down to one point.

Let’s give some credit to Histon who defended really well against us. I’m guessing that their pre-match plan was to try to get a point and after the sending off they stuck to that plan. They knew that if they pushed for the win they risked losing so they stayed defensive. Their officials told me that they are desperate to avoid relegation.

What a magnificent ground they have. It has to be one of the best non league grounds. I was told that when they were in the Conference League a few years ago they came close to getting into the Football League.

I always ask our opponents officials which Ilkeston player caught their eye.
The Histon officials choice was Ross Durrant.

They also spoke about the postponed game against Ilkeston. They said the pitch was playable when first inspected early on Saturday morning which is why the local ref refused to call the game off. What they said next surprised me. 
The Histon officials said that when the match referee came just after midday there was light rain but they thought that the pitch was still playable and they tried their best to persuade the referee to not call the game off. The referee however insisted the pitch was unplayable.
