    Ilkeston Town v Carlton Town - Sat 26th February '22

    .

    After today's postponement  we now  look forward to our home game against Carlton Town

    Carlton Town sit just outside the playoff positions, 4 points behind Stamford.
    Earlier in the season we drew 1-1 at Stoke Lane with a last minute Charlie Wakefield equaliser.
    Carlton need to put a winning run together if they are to steal a playoff place. 

    Carlton have lost only 4 of their 28 league games so far  (P28, W14, D10, L4).
    Carlton have lost only one of their last 10 league matches (4 wins & 5 draws)
    Carlton’s 10 draws are more than any other team. 
    Nat Watson is their top goalscorer with 12 goals. Aaron Opoku has 10 goals.

    With more rain forecast this week, our match against Carlton will be on thanks to our artificial pitch. If some of the other matches involving our promotion rivals are off it gives us an opportunity to forge ahead at the top of the table. 
    After yesterday's postponement there is now time for Adam Chapman and Montel Gibson to recover from their injuries and James Carvell to recover from illness. These three were unavailable on Saturday. So hopefully Martin Carruthers will have more players to choose from.
    Saturday would have seen the debuts of Charlie Jemson and Morgan Thomas-Sadler. This could now happen against Carlton with Fenton and Maguire serving their suspensions. More good news is that Billy Bennett would have been on the bench at Spalding.

    Great to hear about Billy being on the mend , i think we have missed him not just for his playing ability but for his leadership.

    I have a feeling that Carlton have been a bit of a bogey side for us. I can remember them scoring four at the NMG fairly recently.  It's going to be a tough match especially with Nat Watson looking to prove a point.

    It’s not a mathematical certainty but realistically it’s safe say that the one automatic promotion spot will go to either Ilkeston, Halesowen or Chasetown. With ten games to play and only two points separating the top three it’s so tight that any one of these three could finish top.  

    The two who miss out and go into the playoffs will probably be joined by Stamford and Belper. The only other club who could realistically gate crash the playoffs is Carlton.  Coleshill, who were in the running now appear to have slipped out of contention as a result of recent poor form.

    Carlton will know that their playoff chances will be severely dented if they lose at Ilkeston so we can expect a really tough match. Victory in this match is vital for both teams and a draw would be a setback for the ambitions of both clubs.

    With the latest amazing ground improvement plans now drawn up, everything is in place for us to play much higher up the pyramid. If the plans come to fruition we’re going to have an incredible home to be proud of. We now need the crowds to come down and show their support. A big and vocal fanbase can help to push the team over the finishing line. These are exciting times and promotion is in our own hands.

    Show your gratitude to our owners for everything they have done by supporting the team home and away in these last ten matches. It would be great to have a four figure gate for the Carlton match then let's try to double our support at away matches. The Supporters Group are happy to run more buses if the demand is there.

    Any chance of someone volunteering to help me in hospitality at tomorrows match against Carlton.
    I’m going to be on my own and I’m also on team sheet duty.
    I need someone there while I do the pre match team sheet.
    Just involves serving teas and coffee to visiting officials between 1 30 and 2 30

    The Club are hoping for another four figure gate tomorrow as we go into our final ten matches starting with playoff contenders Carlton Town. Only four more home matches to come after tomorrow.

    With certain players unavailable for the Carlton fixture there could be a surprise on the Ilkeston bench

    Result sequences : 

    An Ilkeston win would extend our unbeaten run to ten matches 

    Over the last nine matches Carlton have never had the same result in consecutive matches  :  D W D W D W L D W so having won their last match (against Spalding), there’s no chance of them winning at Ilkeston today.

    Another Ilkeston corner.Rathbone pushes the ball over the bar. Carlton long shot has Durrant back peddling. Good chance for Ilkeston but Cambells shot goes over after good play by Goodson.    1-1     18 mins

    Great defending by Stern Irvine to dispossess Opoku, Watson looking really good for Carlton. Thomas-Sadler replaced by Tommy Williams after only 29 minutes.      2-1

    Carlton have a great attack but not so good defence..  Free kick to Carlton near corner flag.  Campbell heads out.  Both sides are attacking in earnest.        3-1  41 mins
