ILKESTON TOWN STILL TOP OF THE TABLE AFTER EX ROBIN LAWRENCE GORMAN EQUALISES FOR CARLTON AGAINST HALESOWEN TOWN!

The Carlton keeper had to go off very early in the first half with a broken collar bone . So their score was brilliant considering .... Hope he recovers quickly ...

Created next to nothing tbh. But defended well. Horrific pitch. Helped them with their ‘anti football’. If Putin attacks hope he hits Spalding first. Dreadful place
Not a single one of their lads makes our squad
Other results went our way. So onward & upward

There was some criticism of our performance but it was a gluepot pitch which made it really difficult for our players. Spalding were happy to defend in depth and rely on breaks. They did have a go near the end but without pushing defenders forward. I don't think I've ever seen a game with so few chances. Spalding were quite happy with a point and they weren't going to risk losing it. Losing Verma early on didn't help. Personally I would have liked to see Carvell given a run near the end. His fresh legs might have made a difference (Carvell was our only attacking sub).

THRILLS AND SPILLS IN SPELL BINDING AFTERNOON AT STOKE LANE!
What an incredible afternoon at Stoke Lane and before we get into all that, everyone at the club is praying and hoping that the injury to Millers goalkeeper Mark Rathbone is not as bad as it looked.
Mark left the field after only 9 minutes to warm applause and went onto hospital and the club awaits further news.
Substitute and new striker Niall Towle came off the bench and stepped between the sticks, but within 5 minutes, Halesowen were in front courtesy of a Bradley Birch header.
A wonder goal from new signing Alex Howes brought the Millers Level, but a Richard Gregory penalty before the interval put Halesowen back in the driving seat.
Arron Apoku on as a second half Substitute pulled the Millers level, but Gregory scored again in the next Halesowen attack.
It was left to Lawrence Gorman to score a contender for goal of the season with a wonderful strike after beating two men and curling in a wonder goal at the death to secure a deserved point for the Millers.

Well there's 2 hours I'd like back. Awful game of football, and very reminiscent of the Corby game. Did either side have a decent chance in the whole game?
Spalding are a big, physical side who have a very direct style. And they've probably been adapted to play that way cos you cannot play football on that pitch of theirs. How can anybody find that entertaining?
No excuses though, over a season you get different tests against different teams on surfaces of varying quality, and we struggled in this one. We had an off-day and couldn't find a way through. We just didn't offer any sort of threat, the only bright spark really, again, was Charlie Wakefield. It was a game calling out for the guile and craft of Adam Chapman. Zak Goodson had a real off-day and got bullied off the ball all afternoon, so why not give Carvell half an hour? Or try something out of left field and replace Campbell and Troke with Maguire and Irvine for the last 15? At least show a bit of imagination and try something different.
Very frustrating, but that's sport for you. Your team doesn't win every week.Spalding probably had the better of the second half and at least we defended well And who knows, come the end of the season, this might just be a very important point won.
If anyone wants 10 minutes of the lowlights, they're here ...

We’ve not made their keeper dirty his knees. Forwards lost their physical battles. It’s very hard on bad pitches. But it’s no use shrugging your shoulders and waiting for others to pull something out of the hat
We’re still top though
Agree with Nicky - why not lob young Stern up top for 15 minutes and get him to smash a few people. Rem had an off day. As did Zak. Maybe Stern & Carvell might have made the difference
Might be a valuable point in the end though

Most people know that I'm a big fan of Stern Irvine fan. I hadn't thought about bringing him on up front as suggested by Nicky and Dick but it could have worked. I did wonder if a steaming Maguire up front with a point to prove might cause Spalding problems with his heading ability.
It could be that Martin Carruthers decided to play safe late on due to Spalding having their best spell at that time. It was certainly worth a go to bring on Carvell for Zak who really struggled to get going in the heavy conditions. Then again we've seen Zak be ineffective before and then smash in a wonder goal.
We still have a point advantage over Halesowen and we can't allow Halesowen to get ahead of us or it could be impossible to catch them. Therefore in my opinion, the Chasetown match next week has become a must win. There's still seven matches to play after Chasetown but anything other than a win could consign us to the playoffs. I keep thinking Stamford will be favourites to win the playoffs so finishing top is our best chance of promotion.

But don’t forget Halesowen play Chasetown too as well as going to Belper
Halesowen are at Corby next week. They’ve picked up recently and their pitch is crap too
We did ok defensively yesterday. Our 31 conceded is now second only to Halesowen with 30 but we seem to have lost a bit of cohesion up top. We need Rem to find his scoring boots again and we do miss Chappy’s experience and game management
Hope Verms makes it for next week as the midfield was far too deep for me after he went off
