Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

Next Up is the biggest game of our remaining fixtures.

Currently in third place, Chasetown have been the surprise team in our league. They have been near the top all season and are currently three points behind us. Their only defeats have been against  Halesowen, Shepshed, Sporting Khalsa and Stamford. They beat us 4-3 at the NMG in September.
They have a formidable strike force of Jack Langston and Joey Butlin. Langston is the league’s top scorer with 22 goals and Butlin has 17goals.
Their average attendance is 497 and their highest attendance was 923 against Bedworth on New Years Day. They will be hoping to hit four figures for our visit.
Last Saturday they lost 0-4 against Stamford which ended a run of seven straight wins.

Chasetown’s home record is  P15, W11, D2, L2,  Points 35
Ilkeston’s away record is        P15. W10, D4, L1,  Points 34

Ilkeston are unbeaten in 11 matches but recent draws at Histon and Spalding have hindered our progress.
Anything other than an Ilkeston win will give Halesowen the chance to go top.

Chasetown Turnstile and Parking Arrangements

Chasetown FC@ChasetownFC1954 To ease any expected additional crowd congestion on Saturday, there will be an additional turnstile open which will be the first one you get to on Church Street. This one is cash only, so if you do need to pay by card, you'll need to go to the usual turnstiles

In case we do get a large attendance on Saturday v @ilkestontown_fc :
As well as the club car park, there is a car park at the end of the street, 50 spaces in the Primary School car park, while the supporters coaches are parking at Erasmus Darwin Academy.

CHASETOWN FC
CAN WE MAKE 1,090...
BY PAUL MULLINS   1 DAY AGO

After a 923 league attendance earlier this season, what better chance to set a league attendance record against current league leaders Ilkeston Town.
Below are the highest attendances we have ever played in front of at The Scholars Ground. 1,090 will overtake our highest ever league attendance for a normal league fixture, as the Glapwell play off match is officially classed as a cup tie rather than a league game.

Cardiff City – F.A. Cup                         2,420
Blyth Spartans – F.A. Cup (Replay)     2,134
Mansfield Town – F.A. Trophy              2,000
Oldham Athletic – F.A. Cup                 1,997
Port Vale – F.A. Cup                            1,986
Nuneaton Borough – F.A. Cup            1,408
Glapwell – Promotion Play Off            1,265
FC United of Manchester                    1,089
Grimsby Town – F.A. Trophy               1,012
Bedworth United                                    923
Halesowen Town – F.A. Trophy             879

Don't mind helping them get a record league match attendance but we want the points.  If you've not been to an away match before, now is the time. Travel the easy way on the Freeway coaches organised for your convenience by ITFC Supporters Group. Contact Zane on 07521 055827 for more information or to book your seat.

LICHFIELD LIVE :

Record league attendance could be smashed as Chasetown FC prepare for top of the table clash

by Lichfield Live9th March, 2022

An additional entrance will be open for Chasetown FC’s home game this weekend with a record league crowd expected.
The Scholars entertain Ilkeston on Saturday (12th March) in a top of the table clash.

With the away side expected to bring a large following and Chasetown’s own attendances averaging around 500 this season, the record league crowd at The Scholars Ground of 1,090 is likely to be eclipsed.
A spokesperson said:
“To ease any expected additional crowd congestion, there will be an additional turnstile open on Church Street which will be cash only.“As well as the club car park, there will also be spaces at the end of Church Street and 50 spaces in the primary school car park.”Chasetown FC spokesperson
Admission is £9 for adults, £6 for concessions and £1 for under 16s. Kick-off is at 3pm.

                                      ...............................................................

Well done to Chasetown FC for planning for the Ilkeston invasion.

.

Two days to go - Final training session tonight

Hope our players who have had injuries are available for this important fixture and it’s a firm surface to play on.

Great to have Billy Bennett back and hope he stays fit for the run in.

I'm really hoping Montel is fit enough to play. We haven't seen the best of him yet. If he plays I think he'll score.

We miss Adam Chapman but again he seems doubtful. So I’m hoping Aman Verma is recovered after going off in the last match. If both are unfit it could be James Reid in midfield.

Interesting choice to be made in central defence between Joe Maguire, Charlie Jemson and Stern Irvine. I would be inclined to go for Stern for this match because of his extra pace and aggression.

We now have cover for Ross so there is now competition for every position. On the down side, a back up keeper means one less outfield option on the bench.

CHASETOWN FC LAST MATCH

Express & Star Sport

Chasetown 0-4 Stamford - Report
By Jonny Drury

Chasetown’s title aspirations took a battering as play off rivals Stamford came away with all three points. The Scholars entered a critical month with games against 5th, 1st and 2nd in the league and started brightly with an early Jack Langston effort flying over the bar.

Stamford took the lead in the 26th minute when league joint leading scorer Jonathan Margetts capitalised on some defensive hesitancy to fire beyond Curtis Pond.

The Lincolnshire side had two opportunities after the break. Both fell to Jack Duffy. On 50mins he dragged a good chance wide of the post then on 65mins Stamford broke quickly and Pond saved a Duffy effort low to his right.

It was no surprise when the Daniels added their second. The home defence failed to deal with a quick attack and Cosmos Matwasa netted to extend the lead.

In front of a bumper 587 crowd, Chasetown hardly threatened the visiting keeper Daniel Haystead.

A calamitous third goal killed the game ten minutes from the end. Pond was out of his goal and despite a couple of goal line clearances from Ryan Wynter, substitute Jon Challinor fired through a crowd of players

.Tendai Chitiza rounded off an emphatic away victory with a fourth goal in the 90th minute.

Rutland and Stamford Mercury match report

Chasetown  0  Stamford  4

In the rearranged match against the Scholars, Stamford had been aiming to topple the Northern Premier League Midlands Division's form team with the Staffordshire side having won their last seven matches.

But Graham Drury's charges turned on the style to inflict the heaviest league loss of the season on their third-placed hosts.

Jonny Margetts gave Stamford a one-goal interval lead before the Daniels scored a further three times after the break.

Cosmos Matwasa doubled the lead before Jon Challinor netted for the second successive game ahead of Tendai Chitiza's injury-time strike.

The victory moved the Daniels into fourth place, nine points off top spot and seven clear of Carlton who remain just outside the play-off places.

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

.

80 people are booked onto the two Supporters Coaches to Chasetown so far. At least the same number will probably travel by cars meaning we can expect plenty of away support at our top of the table clash.

Chasetown have made a big effort to muster as much support as possible for this match. We may be outnumbered but we wont be out-shouted. I have a good feeling that we can avenge the 4-3 defeat that we sufffered at the NMG in September.

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

Centre midfield worries me.

Chapman out
Verma 50/50
Reid not a centre midfielder

Do we play maguire as a holding CM

Or play 3 at the back

I would play troke in the CM role.

In my eyes one of the most underrated players ive seen in a ilson shirt, yes he scores goals but he does a little bit more, leaves his foot in when it matters ( defenders hate that)

Gandi most have a trick up his sleeve

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

.

Chasetown fans will be hoping for a reaction after last weeks defeat but we go there seeking nothing less than a win.
For the Ilkeston following, never has expectancy been so high. I hope the team are able to produce a dominant performance that sends all of our fans home happy.

Then it's Coleshill at home. If we win both of these games we'll give ourselves a great chance of finishing top.

We have such a strong squad that it’s hard to pick a team without leaving out players who are undoubtably good enough to play, but assuming Chapman and Verma are injured, this would be my starting XI and bench :

1 Ross Durrant,   2 Tommy Williams,   3 Billy Bennett,    4 Stern Irvine,  5 Joe Maguire,   6 Kieran Fenton,  7 Zak Goodson,  8 Jared Bird,  9 Remaye Campbell, 10 Alex Troke, 11 Charlie Wakefield.
Bench :  12 Montel Gibson, 14 James Reid, 15 Ollie Brown-Hill, 18 Charlie Jemson, GK Saul Deeney

That’s a strong bench in case we need to make changes. I would definitely bring on Montel Gibson at some point and I would have had James Carvell on the bench as another attacking option if there was room.

An Ilkeston win and a Corby win would make it a perfect day.

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

Agree about Troke Alex, an underrated player and for me a better all-round centre forward than Campbell. Yes, I'm sure our manager will have done his homework on Chasetown and worked out their strengths and weaknesses and has hopefully come up with a plan to come out on top.

We're doing ok at the moment defensively, and at shielding the defence, it's going forward that concerns me more. We created nothing at Spalding last week and Campbell and Goodson were anonymous. Our most creative player at the moment is Wakefield so I think you have to start with him in the left wing role (having said that Charlie seems to cover every blade of grass on the pitch wherever you play him). I wonder if OBH could play a midfield role, both shielding the defence and helping with the attacks?

                  Durrant
Williams. Irvine. Fenton Bennett
        Reid. Bird. OBH
Goodson. Troke. Wakefield

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

Am i missing something here i read other peoples post and respect what they post but reidy is not the player he was. 10 years ago he wasnt mobile enough for centre midfield so i cant see how people would want him in their team.

He would be lucky to get into the squad for Saturday in my eyes.

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

For me, Wakefield is our best available midfielder if Verma/ Chapman are out. So give him the responsibility of bossing it

For me I’d go:

                                 Ross

Tommy.            Jemmo       Fenners      Billy

           Birdy.              Charlie.           OBH

                                  Trokey

                     Zak.                      Rem

Bags of energy in that line up. After Verms went off the midfield was miles too deep. So get em up the pitch and take the game to Chasetown

That leaves a strong bench too

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

Agree with your team line up mate , I see Reidy a really good player to come on as sub. Chappo is going to be a big miss . Again agree about Charlie Wakefield in midfield .

CHASETOWN MATCH PREVIEW

LATEST MATCH PREVIEW FROM STUDENT TOM BOWEN
BY PAUL MULLINS

This weekend's crucial title battle.

Following a heavy defeat against Stamford on Saturday afternoon, Chasetown will be looking to make amends as they face off against fierce title rivals Ilkeston Town. A bumper crowd is expected for this game as both teams push for the title towards the business end of the season.

Ilkeston’s last game resulted in a goalless draw away at Spalding United, with plenty of chances coming throughout the game, however none were converted. The same scoreline came away at Histon just two weeks earlier.

For the Scholars, however, it is a different story. They’ll be looking to bounce back from a crushing 4-0 defeat at home to Stamford last week, which ended their excellent unbeaten run of eight games.

Over the course of this season, Ilkeston have averaged 2.7 goals per game and have gone on an even longer unbeaten run than the Scholars. Their 4-2 defeat away at Sporting Khalsa in December was the last time Ilkeston lost a game.

The reverse fixture between the pair in September resulted in a seven-goal thriller in front of Ilkeston’s second-best home crowd of 1,797. An early goal from Remaye Campbell gave the home side the lead in the eleventh minute, until Joey Butlin turned it around at the start of the second half by scoring twice in ten minutes.

With the score at 1-3 in the 72nd minute, Ilkeston needed a miracle. Campbell netted his second goal of the day, and two minutes later, Charlie Wakefield, who has played in every game this season, equalised for the home side to make the game level once again at 3-3.

Danny O’Callaghan had the final say, however, with a fourth goal in the 80th minute to give the Scholars’ all three points.

With just eight games remaining in the season, every moment is crucial for the Scholars. A win for them here could produce a huge swing of momentum in the title race.

.

I've got a seat behind the goal. it's a good view but there's no overhead cover so hoping it doesn't rain.  25 minutes to kickoff. Chasetown's Chairman said they were hoping for a 1200 crowd. The ground is filling up but it's difficult to say how many are here.

It's a fairground atmosphere .Loud music and visiting hotdog stalls scattered about.

Oh no its spitting rain. If it comes harder I'll have to close my lap top till it stops.

It's approaching kickoff and the teams are now out. Ilkeston are in red and wite, Chasetown are in blue.

Ilkeston fans are making themselves heard.   And we're off ...............

Re: Chasetown v Ilkeston Town - Sat 12th March'22

Chasetown first to mount an attack. Corner to Chasetown.  It's cleared.  Free kick to Ilkeston wide left.  Fenton gets to it but his header is wide.        0-0      6 mins

Bit of pressure by Chasetown at the far goal. Then Wakefield gets shot in from a tight angle but it's easily saved by Pond .     0-0     11mins

No clear openings yet. Best Ilkeston attack so far ends with Verma penalised for high boot. GOOD SAVE BY DURRANT.    0-0     20 MINS

Chasetown effort is just wide. Another Chasetown corner.  Scholars are edging it so far. Good defending by Williams. Nothing from Ilkeston attack so far.      0-0     28 mins
