With Derby and Forest not playing we are expecting another four figure attendance for the visit of Yaxley on Saturday.
Yaxley are in the lower half of the table but they scored four goals at Shepshed tonight.
We won our previous meeting on their ground by 1-0 with a late goal by Ollie Brown-Hill.

It's another game we have to win in our quest for automatic promotion.

Their away record is P16, W5, D2, L9, F25, A43, GD -18, Points 17

Yaxley have conceded 82 goals so far - They have the worst defensive record in the league.
Their worst defeat was 6-1 to Loughborough Dynamo
Their best wins were 2-1 against Stamford and 3-2 against Carlton
Their leading goal scorers are : Daniel Cotton 15 and Matthew Sparrow 12
Their average gate is 131.

This match should be an opportunity for us to settle in the new players and to re-establish some confidence. But games don't always go to plan.
It will be interesting to see the team selection for this match.
Will Ross be back in goal? : I think he will.
I've been told that Zak is being watched by several league clubs. Has this affected his form?

For those who can remember Ralph bomber Brown, I've heard that he is hoping to come to the Yaxley game as a guest of the club. Sadly, he's not in the best of health just now.

There are only six matches left so we really can’t afford any slip ups. Our match against Yaxley is our last before we go into the the final month of the season. It’s Non League Day so do come and support your local non league club. I’m hearing we may get several Derby and Forest supporters coming down for the match.
Here are this weekends fixtures :

Chasetown v Cambridge
Coleshill v Daventry
Corby v Carlton

Ilkeston v Yaxley

Cambridge could play a part in the automatic promotion race. They play Chasetown this Saturday and Ilkeston play against them next Saturday. Cambridge have hit a good run of form and have lost only one of the last 12 matches. So there’s just a chance that Cambridge might do us a favour by taking points off Chasetown this Saturday while we have what looks like a less difficult match against Yaxley. Our goal difference is currently 16 better than Chasetown’s and 15 better than Halesowen's. A convincing win against Yaxley could improve on that.
Come the final day of the season (April 23rd) goal difference could win us the title.

We’re now coming to the end of the fifth season since Ilkeston Town FC was re-formed by Alan Hardy after Ilkeston FC were relegated three steps.

In the two Alan Hardy years we had back to back promotions which took us from Step 6 to Step 4.

The Club was then bought by Dave Hilton and Andrew Nally and we then experienced unbelievable investment in the New Manor Ground.

We then had two curtailed seasons due to the covid pandemic.

If we win promotion this season we will have returned to the level we were at five years ago in the soonest possible time and under our current owners we are looking to play at even higher levels in the near future.

What a five years this has been.

Let's get this season's promotion over the line

Are we in a bit of a Panic mode now . At Chasetown we weren`t very good , at home v Coleshill we were hanging on . Not good . This Yaxley game we have to prove to ourselves and the fans we are still a very good team with a strong performance ..... We hanging on by a thread at the moment .

Players are no longer assured of their place in the team. Decent players like Ollie Brown-Hill and James Carvell can't get a look in. Those particular two turn up for training and really give everything to try and persuade Martin Carruthers to give them another chance.

We were going so well with Adam Chapman in the team until he sustained his injury. That caused us to sign Jack Thomas and Dan Bradley. Is Bradley the direct replacement for Chapman? He wasn't totally convincing last week but hopefully he will show his class against Yaxley.

Personally I hope that Stern Irvine keeps his place in the team.

We all have our favourite players that we want in the team. Some fans prefer the work horses who give 100% for the whole game and some like the more gifted players who show occasional moments of skill that create goals.

Started doing my team and then realised how difficult it is with so many good players to pick from. I have not found a place for Reid or Carvell or Verma or sadly Joe Maguire who I originally picked on the bench. Yaxley are obviously a team who have an attacking mentality but are leaking goals. In recent games they are averaging over three a game. Thats why I have gone for an attack minded midfield diamond with Troke interchanging with Goodson who I would give a free role. If we are struggling to break them down I would put on Gibson early doors and if we are three up at half time would get Bradley on to give him some game time. I am not sure if we need a keeper on the bench so that could give Maguire or Jemson a spot as cover for the centre backs.

There should be a familiar face in the Yaxley squad tomorrow. Richard Stainsby has played three of their recent games. However he did concede ten goals in those three games. He was an unused substitute in their last game which is a role he filled with unerring consistency at Ilkeston Town where his first team chances were rare. Hope he brings the Biggles gear!
