Saturday 9th April '22 : Ilkeston Town v Daventry Town

.

Four games to go now and Saturday we face Daventry Town.

Daventry Town  are 17th in the table. They have 12 points more than Histon who are at risk of relegation so they should be safe.

Daventry’s record is :   P34, W8, D9, L17. F42, A71, GD-29  Points 33
Their away record is :  P17, W3, D5,  L9   F21, A35, GD-14  Points 14

On our visit to Daventry in the opening month of the season we won by 4-0. We also travelled to Daventry for an FA Trophy game in October and won 4-1 on penalties after the game ended 0-0.

Their top scorer is Jack Bowen with 11 goals

Their average home attendance is 132 so we not expecting many Daventry supporters to come to the NMG.

Re: Saturday 9th April '22 : Ilkeston Town v Daventry Town

This may look like a straightforward winnable match against a team near the bottom but it could easily be a banana skin. Daventry gave us a good game the last time we met in the FA Trophy when we needed penalties to beat them.  We really need to wrap-up this game quickly and take the three points to maintain our advantage.
With Chasetown at home to Sutton Coldfield and Halesowen at home to Bedworth, there is unlikely to be any change in the top three positions this weekend.
After our win at Cambridge, I’m pretty sure that that Halesowen and Chasetown will be thinking that the title is ours to lose although they won’t have given up. They will still be under pressure to keep winning because if they can’t finish top, they will both want to finish second to avoid playing Stamford in the playoffs.

It's time to vote for your Player of the Year and voting forms will available from  the Club Shop at the Daventry match.

Looking back over the whole season there are several players who are deserving of the accolade.

For me personally it's between Kieran Fenton, Charlie Wakefield and Ross Durrant. These three have performed consistently well throughout the season.

Agree no game is straight forward the under dogs have always a chance to win. On paper and form you have to say Ilson . But on the day that goes out the water it's two teams playing for a win unless you have Yaxley's keeper . Lol

Re: Saturday 9th April '22 : Ilkeston Town v Daventry Town

! think Zak will be a popular choice with the fans. Could be a tad awkward if Ross wins it and Kieran has been a colossus this season however I think Charlie Wakefield just edges it for me as he has been consistently class all season.

Tomorrow is our penultimate home game as this exciting season nears it's conclusion. Promotion is within touching distance. The  players and the fans are nervous. Anything can happen. Will it be ecstacy or agony ?
You need to be there. We need you to be there.

Two extra reasons to attend Ilkeston v Daventry :
Vote for your Player of the Season
See Zane to book a place on one of the coaches to Bedworth

Heard this morning that Aman Verma and Dan Bradley's injuries will keep them out of the side to play against Daventry.

Not a problem as we have plenty of quality cover.

Two of last Saturday’s bench will be hoping to start against Daventry. ie Zak Goodson. Alex Troke, James Reid, Ollie Brown-Hill and Charlie Jemson.
Also in the running for a recall are; Joe Maguire, Tommy Williams and James Carvell.

Re: Saturday 9th April '22 : Ilkeston Town v Daventry Town

DAVENTRY TOWN CLUB HISTORY

Daventry Town were formed in 1886 and in them days and up to the sixties the team was based on lads from the very small town as it was in those days. They played in the Northampton Town League drifting between Division One and Two without really setting the world alight, and at times struggling with the U.C.L. clubs who took the best players from the town. Long Buckby and British Timken were at the top of local football, Daventry Town continued to struggle......

In the eighties under a few different Managers, the Committee of the day set too, they decided to appoint a Manager to change the club's fortunes, the man was Willie Barrett. He opted to change from the Town League to the Northants Combination. His side duly won Division One (1987/88) and were runners-up in the K.O. Cup. Promotion was always the key as we needed to be in the Prem to gain U.C.L. Status.

In 1988/89 we duly won the Premier Division and gained entry to the U.C.L. Division One which we won at the first attempt, and were runners-up in the NFA Junior Cup. We were not allowed promotion to the Premier Division as our new ground was not ready.

In 1990/91 we won the U.C.L. Division One title and the NFA Junior Cup, this was a great achievement for a club that was going nowhere at the turn of the eighties.

Still under the guidance of Willie Barrett we entered the Premier Division and we finished a creditable fourth place and were runners-up in the K.O. Cup in the first season in the Prem. In the second season we struggled on and off the pitch and Willie Barrett left the club and at the end of the season we took voluntary relegation back to Division One. Managers came but none ignited the flame and the club faded into the background of local football.

In October 1998, a new Chairman arrived, Melvin Knowles, and things on and off the field began to improve. This will now only continue to get better now we have one of the best Management teams in the U.C.L. and they have proved it last season by winning the Daventry Charity Cup for the first time in the Modern History of Daventry Town FC.

Good times can only lay ahead for this famous old club.

Ilkeston look okay in defence but not creative enough going forward. Shot by Lorraine is saved by Deeney. Crowd getting a bit  impatient.  Great work by Ollie but Keeper makes a fine collect.   Ilkeston corner -  It's cleared.  Zak shot deflected wide.        0-0   34 mins
