Re: Sat 16th April '22 - Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston Town

A point at Belper after 2-0 down but Trevor on twitter from Halesowen blames the Manager. Sounds familiar!!
"Players did all they could. Responsibility lies with the manager. Why change a system with 3 wins and 13 goals with only 1 against? Decisions like this have cost us winning the league. Disappointing to say the least. The players who came on changed the game. Good for them."

Re: Sat 16th April '22 - Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston Town

Dale on twitter from Halesowen is more philosophical and calm
"Game of two halves. First half utterly dreadful, as has been said tactics wrong and also think the players needed reminding it was a 1pm kick off as not enough effort. Changes made and much better second half. Although our title challenge is officially over now so playoffs it is."
Nice to see he has awarded us the title!

Re: Sat 16th April '22 - Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston Town

JJ from Chasetown is happy then sad on twitter
"Get in Langy! Shame Ilkeston just scored late on again…"
We seem to be breaking hearts with our late rescue acts!

Re: Sat 16th April '22 - Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston Town

.

The fans were great today, urging us on when we were behind.  We were always the better side but Bedworth made it hard for us. I thought Jared Bird was excellent apart from his pass back which gave Bedworth their goal. We defended well and i can only remember Bedworth going close once. Stern Irvine was a rock again and Ollie also did well.  Man of the match for me was Jack Thomas who was our driving force throughout. What an excellent signing. A word also for Dan Bradley who showed some attacking endeavour.  Charlie Wakefield took a knock and was seen limping after the game. Kelvin Wilson did the after match interview.

So only two days for the players ro recover before Easter Monday's match

"Don't think my nerves can take much more of this even when sat in a pub in sunny Hunstanton with Twitter permanently on watching the score, got to be another pint now to calm the nerve"
When you look back on this Mark G It will be one of the best times of your life!! Have faith. Enjoy the ride!

Re: Sat 16th April '22 - Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston Town

.
Sat 16th April 2022  :  Northern Premier League
Bedworth United  1  Ilkeston Town  2
A Jack Thomas goal five minutes from time enabled Ilkeston to come from behind and record a fifth win on the bounce. They fell behind in the first half when Ryan Nesbitt latched on to Jared Bird’s intended back pass to Saul Deeney. Then Ilkeston had what looked like  a legitimate  equaliser ruled out just before half time.
The first chance of the game fell to Montel Gibson when he fired over from a tight angle. Goal opportunities were few but as Ilkeston were starting to dominate Nesbitt put Bedworth ahead. Deeney managed to block Nesbitt’s first attempt but the ball fell kindly for the striker to get the ball over the line. Charle Wakefield fired over before one of several Ilkeston corners finally came to fruition when Gibson headed home at the far post. Unfortunately it was ruled out for something the referee had spotted before the ball reached Gibson.
Ilkeston started the second half with real determination but Bedworth had an early chance to go two up. Harry Wakefield was only two yards out when he failed to connect with the ball. Normal service soon resumed though as Ilkeston pressed forward and Kieran Fenton saw a decent effort go across the face of the goal. The Robins persistence finally paid off on 65 minutes when Thomas’s left wing cross was headed in by Remaye Campbell. Gibson then hit a first time volley just wide. Bedworth keeper Sam Lomax was dealing with everything in the air as ilkeston searched for a winner. When the decider came it followed an almighty scramble in the Bedworth penalty area. Two shots were blocked before Jack Thomas slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Bedworth had little left in the tank and Ilkeston saw out seven minutes of added time without any alarms.

Just seen the video of Ilkeston's second goal. It's not goal of the season but it's brilliant to watch for the players reactions. Watch Billy Bennett . He collapses with relief while all the other players go mad.

Re: Sat 16th April '22 - Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston Town

Another poor performance, but at this stage of the season who cares? It's all about winning. And we seem to have a happy knack of grinding out results at the moment.

For the first hour it was tippy-tappy across the back line at pedestrian pace, and then hoof it forward, usually straight into the arms of their keeper (what was he, 6' 10"?). Looked like we could play all day and not score. Have to say though, the Gibson header from a corner looked like a perfectly good goal to me (I thought the ref had a very poor game). We give away a bad goal, our heads dropped, Charlie Wakefield came off injured, and you feared the worst.

We desperately needed some width and switching Jack Thomas to left wing provided that; he and OBH (who had a good game) worked well together. Terrific cross from Thomas for our opener, right down the corridor of uncertainty for their keeper. The outpouring of relief and joy when we scored our second was incredible. And of course then you desperately want the final whistle, and the board goes up with 7 mins of added time!

I thought Stern Irvine had another good game, he gets better and better; just hope we can hang on to him next season.

One thing I will say is that the Ilkeston fans behind the goal were terrific yesterday, particularly in the second half. Fantastic support, willing the team on to win.

Charlie Wakefield came off injured at half-time, Dan Bradley, who came on as sub, came off injured, and did Billy Bennett get injured in the leadup to our second goal? Might well be a patched up team tomorrow.

Please can we win tomorrow so I can relax and enjoy the Wisbech game? Not too much to ask surely?

NPL Midlands: Ilkeston Remain In Control

 about 23 hours ago   By James Gordon

Ilkeston Town came from behind to maintain their three point cushion at the top of the NPL Midlands Division. They trailed 1-0 at half time away at Bedworth United, but Remaye Campbell’s 65th minute equaliser and a Jack Thomas winner four minutes from time keeps them in the box seat.

Chasers Chasetown won 4-0 at Wisbech Town thanks to a Jack Langston hat-trick to keep on their tail - though with Ilkeston boasting a superior goal difference of 14, a win on Easter Monday would all but secure them the title.

Both Halesowen Town and Stamford are already guaranteed play-off places, with Stamford’s 3-1 win over Coleshill Town bringing them within a point of Halesowen for the crucial third spot.

That defeat for Coleshill means the final play-off spot is now a straight battle between Belper Town and Carlton Town.

Belper dropped two points having led 2-0 against Halesowen, while Carlton moved within two points of the Nailers by beating Cambridge City 3-2, with all five goals coming in the first half.

At the other end, Histon’s 2-0 win away at Sutton Coldfield Town means Wisbech are six points adrift of safety with just two to play, while Soham Town Rangers’ defeat at Shepshed Dynamo means they are relegated.

Midlands Division run-in
1. Ilkeston Town        84pts +56   -   Shepshed Dynamo (H), Wisbech Town (A)
2. Chasetown            81pts +42   -   Sporting Khalsa (H), Spalding United (A)
3. Halesowen Town   79pts +48   -   Sutton Coldfield Town (H), Daventry Town (A)
4. Stamford               78pts +53   -   Yaxley (A), Carlton Town (H)
5. Belper Town          67pts +19   -   Loughborough Dynamo (A), Corby Town (H)
6. Carlton Town         65pts +22   -   Spalding United (H), Stamford (A)

NPL West: Another Twist As Workington Slip

A team that wasn’t in action benefited most from the Easter Saturday results in the NPL West Division.A week on from being held by title rivals Workington, Warrington Rylands could only look on in hope as the Reds travelled to Marine for their game in hand, knowing a win would put them in the box seat with two to play. But Marine, who have slipped out of the running in recent weeks after a solid first half to the season, beat Workington 2-1 to ensure Rylands remain top and favourites to win the title.Workington’s last two games are against the bottom two, the already relegated Kendal Town and Market Drayton Town, while Rylands face 1874 Northwich and Bootle. It was a timely win for Marine, particularly as they look to stave off the threat of Leek Town and secure a home play-off semi-final.

They face Leek, who are guaranteed a play-off place, on the final day of the season. The final place in the West Division play-offs is between Runcorn Linnets and Clitheroe, who both won 2-0 against Leek Town and Glossop North End respectively.Linnets have a five point lead over Clitheroe, so can secure their play-off berth with a win at Prescot Cables on Monday.Cables, not in action on Saturday, will have one eye looking over their shoulder after Newcastle Town recorded a 1-0 win away at City of Liverpool. That brings them within three points of Prescot, with Glossop only a point further ahead, in the race to avoid a potential play-off with a Step 5 side.
