Basford have signed Brad McGowan from Peterborough Sports.  Peterborough Sports won promotion to National League North via the playoffs but McGowan has chosen to stay at Step 3. Like Basford, Peterborough Sports are poorly supported. Seventeen of their home matches last season were watched by under 300 spectators although 1895 watched them win the playoff final.

Making a welcome return to Bromsgrove Sporting is fan favourite, Mike Taylor.  The experienced and well-travelled 34-year-old powerful front man re-joins from Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side Halesowen Town.

Midfielder, Josh Quainor has moved the other way from Bromsgrove to Halesowen. Halesowen manager Paul Smith said "Josh has been top drawer for Sporting for a number of years." “He was a stand out performer last season at step 3. It’s a fantastic new signing for the club, and I’m very happy with how the squad is shaping up.'' Meanwhile, the Yeltz have confirmed the departure of midfielder Robbie Bunn.

Four Stourbridge signings

Midfielder ALEX MOORE and attacker RACKEEM REID have both agreed to join the Glassboys from Rushall Olympic for the start of the new season.

Stourbridge beat off strong competition to land the services of ALEX MOORE who is well regarded as a creative midfielder who is also adept at dead-ball situations. He was the Manager's Player of the Year for 2021/22 after consistently strong performances for the Pics.

RACKEEM REID is a talented wide player or attacker who brings pace and power. He was initially a scholar at Chasetown before linking up with Paget Rangers. Rackeem joined Rushall in May 2020 and he now arrives at Stourbridge after impressing greatly last season.

Central midfielder CALLUM GITTINGS has become our third new signing of the summer after joining from National League North,Leamington FC.

Pitmen Make Triple Swoop

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Hednesford Town have made a triple signing swoop.  Added to the Pitmen’s three earlier signings are Luke Rowe, Joe Cuff and Taylor Carter-Byrne.
Rowe is a 20-year-old midfielder who moves to Keys Park fom league rivals Redditch United, where he had been since September 2021. After captaining Wolverhampton Wanderers under-16s as a schoolboy, he then went to play at the age of 15 for the under-18s in a 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Molineux. After a few injuries and illnesses at Wolves, the club decided to release him in January 2017. After several clubs showed an interest in him, he chose Coventry City. But he was released at the end of the 2018/19 season and briefly joined Halesowen Town before switching to Coleshill Town in late August 2019. He then had spells with Stratford Town and Worcester City before re-joining the Colemen in 2020.

Carter-Byrne turned down an approach from a club in the Vanarama National League to sign for the Pitmen. A 23-year-old left back or centre-back, he signed for Northern Premier Division One Midlands outfit Coleshill Town from Midland League Premier Division side Heather St Johns. He enjoyed an excellent 2019/20 for Heather, having joined a year or so earlier from Midland League Division One outfit Paget Rangers.

Lambs Make Sixth New Signing
Experienced midfielder Ben Milnes has put pen-to-paper for Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Tamworth after helping Buxton to win the Northern Premier League Premier Division title last season.

The 30-year-old had joined the Bucks in the summer of 2021 from Vanarama National League North side Kettering Town. He had signed for the Poppies from neighbours Corby Town in June 2017. A highly-rated midfielder, whose career began at Leicester City before a move to Boston United, while at Corby he was the player of the year, and he also helped the Poppies to win the Southern Premier Central title in 2018/19.

Manager Andy Peaks told his club’s website: “I know quite a lot about Ben. “He played against me when he was at Corby and Kettering. “He has good experience and is a good character and he will bring a lot of quality on the ball. “He has some characteristics that I think we have lost with Ryan Beswick going. “He will hold things together and will link up well with Gift. “He obviously won the league with Buxton last season and his record speaks for itself - he is still young enough and hungry enough and I am delighted to get him in".

Arch rivals Basford have signed striker Gregg Smith from Spalding United where he scored 5 goals in 25 appearances.

GREGG SMITH PUTS PEN-TO-PAPER AT GREENWICH AVENUE
BY MARC WILLIAMS   11 HOURS AGO

Powerhouse striker becomes Clifford’s fifth summer signing…Basford United is delighted to welcome Gregg Smith, most recently of Northern Premier League, Division One (East) side Spalding United. A self-confessed ‘horrible striker’, the 32-year-old has made a name for himself over the years for his powerful front play and becomes manager Mark Clifford’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Brad McGowan, Stern Irvine, Adam Chapman, and Anthony Dwyer. Smith will be very familiar to home fans for the goals scored against us for the likes of Grantham Town and Gainsborough Trinity in recent seasons, and boasts Boston United, Stamford, King’s Lynn and Brackley Town, among others, as former clubs in an impressive résumé that has spanned 16 years.

With further additions expected throughout pre-season, United’s senior officials now feel a re-invention throughout the club after a poor last season and go into the new Southern Premier League campaign re-invigorated and with renewed optimism.

Of the signing, Clifford said: “After meeting with Gregg at the weekend it was clear that he has exactly what we need on the pitch. “Whilst we all know Gregg’s attributes, we have also signed a real leader off the pitch. We had a really open and honest conversation and, following that, I was left in no doubt that he was the man for us. “Frecks has managed Gregg before and knows we have possibly got him at the best part of his career, and we were both impressed by his attitude to football, and his aspirations were crystal clear. “As we move closer to the start of pre-season, I’m really excited by the group that we have assembled. We have competition for places throughout the squad and the group will know for sure that, if they are in the starting line-up come the August 6, they would have earned that spot.

“It’s a great situation for us to be in and not one I’ve had at Basford since my return.” Describing his own style to Lincolnshire Live back in 2017, Smith, said: “I am a horrible centre forward and I love to give defenders a horrible afternoon.“I think I’m quite a unique footballer. I love scoring goals, but I also like to go out and bully people, kick defenders and generally give them a horrible time. He added: “I’m really excited to join Basford and I certainly have a point to prove for myself. “I’m very unique and wear my heart on my sleeve - I can’t wait to get going now.”

Big Striker Returns to Stratford

Gavin Hurran, manager of Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Stratford Town, has brought big striker Curvin Ellis back to the Arden Garages Stadium.

The 6`5” forward joins the Bards from Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side Sutton Coldfield Town. He had joined the Royals in January 2022 from league rivals Chasetown where he had been since August 2021 after arriving from West Midlands (Regional) League side OJM Black Country. A well-travelled player who has also taken in spells with Coventry United, Boldmere St Michaels, Highgate United, Redditch United, Coleshill Town, Coventry Sphinx, Solihull Moors, Gresley Rovers and Racing Club Warwick as well as Stratford.

Hurran told his club’s website: "It's great to get Curvin over the line. He's a big 6`5” forward who will bring something different to the team. He has been playing for Sutton Coldfield last season and has earned his chance to play higher. We are happy to have him join up with the squad ready for pre-season. He has a big strong physical presence who has a great attitude. We're looking forward to working with him and seeing him take his opportunity".

Setchell Makes His First New Signing
Bedford Town have made their first new signing since gaining promotion to the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central.

The Eagles have returned to the league they won last season, for exciting young attacker Tyrone Lewthwaite from Aylesbury United. The 21-year-old had joined the Ducks in February 2022 from Southern Premier Division South side Beaconsfield Town. He had signed for the Rams in the summer of 2021 from league rivals Chesham United where he had been since October 2020 after arriving from Vanarama National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough. A Northern Ireland under-19 international who qualified through his mother’s family, he was with Rotherham United until June 2019, after starting life with Watford, leaving the Vicarage Road set up in 2017, joining the Beavers in the summer of 2019. Bedford manager Gary Setchell told his club’s website: "Everyone at the club was impressed when we saw Ty play against us on the last day of the season. “He looks a real handful and caused us issues throughout the game. I'm sure he will fit in well alongside Connor and our other attacking players to create (and score) plenty of chances".

Former Boston United manager Graham Drury and ex-Pilgrims striker Gregg Smith were both sent off this evening - before a ball was kicked.   Spalding United were hosting Stamford in a Northern Premier League Midlands Lincolnshire derby.

“Crikey 10 minute delay here. Spalding striker Gregg Smith and Stamford manager Graham Drury sent off before kick off,” Alan Swann of our sister title the Peterborough Telegraph tweeted. The dismissals were confirmed by the Tulips’ account, although the reasons for the red cards are yet unclear.

Teams in our league who have lost players to other clubs

DATE: MON 20 JUN 2022  BY STEVE WHITNEY
Summer Movers Out of the League
As well as a lot of movement into the Pitching In Southern Football League so far this close season, there has also been a number of players moving to other leagues. A testament to the standard of the league can be judged from the fact that a number of players have already moved up into the Vanarama National Leagues.

Premier Division Central club Royston Town have lost Brandon Adams and Devonte Aransibia. Forward Adams has left the Crows to join Cheshunt, who won the Isthmian League Premier Division play-offs and will now be plying their trade in the National League South.Playing against his former team-mate at some stage next season will be midfielder Aransibia, who has switched to Chelmsford City, having only been at Garden Walk since February.

National League North side Kettering Town have signed Ben Toseland from Premier Division Central club St Ives Town as well as forward Jordan Graham, who has made the short trip from the Saints` league rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Also heading into the National League North next season are Zak Brown, who leaves Alvechurch for Worcestershire neighbours Kidderminster Harriers and Josh Dugmore, who moves from Bromsgrove Sporting to sign for AFC Telford United.

Supporters of Premier Division Central club Needham Market will be disappointed to have lost forward Ben Fowkes after two years at Bloomfields. He has made the step up a level with National League South side Braintree. Another defender joining a Step 2 side in National League North Alfreton Town is 22-year-old Henri Wilder, who has left Premier Division Central club Tamworth to sign for the Reds.

Others to leave Southern League clubs for other leagues to date this summer include:
Jamie Ashmore Redditch United to Coleshill Town
Tom Bak Leiston to Brantham Athletic
Mitch Clarke Rushall Olympic to Chasetown
Rob Eagle Leiston to Lowestoft Town
Kyle Jardine Coalville Town to Coleshill Town
Louis Monaghan Alvechurch to Worcester Raiders
Josh Quaynor Bromsgrove Sporting to Halesowen Town
Tom Turton Alvechurch to Halesowen Town

Bedford Town have signed defender Sam Warburton from new Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

The 25-year-old had joined Diamonds in June 2021 from Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side Corby Town. He made just under 100 appearances for the Steelmen after joining from King`s Lynn Town in the summer of 2017. Warburton, who can also play out wide on the left wing, was formerly with Nuneaton Borough after starting out at Northampton Town as a youngster.

Manager Gary Setchell told his club’s website: "Sam played for me at King`s Lynn in a side which went on to be very successful. I've known him for a long time and know the qualities he can bring both defensively and going forward down our left side. “He is a great signing, who will fit in to the side really well".

EXPERIENCED SAM MANTOM SIGNS FOR RUSHALL

DATE: SAT 25 JUN 2022   BY STEVE WHITNEY

Two More Added to Pics
Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Rushall Olympic have re-signed midfielder Sam Mantom and added forward Alex Cameron to their squad.

Thirty-year-old Sam Mantom signed for Vanarama National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town in November 2020 from the Pics, where he had only been for a month. He originally joined the Pics after being released by then-League Two side Southend United at the end of the 2019/20 season. The Stourbridge-born former England under-17 international started his career at Walsall before joining West Bromwich Albion in 2010 as a trainee. After making regular appearances for the Baggies reserve side, he was offered a professional contract before spending time on loan with Icelandic side Haukur, Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic respectively. It was his next loan move where the midfielder shone at Walsall on two separate occasions before making the move permanent in January 2013. He made 129 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals in the process and making himself a Saddlers` fan favourite. In June 2016, he signed for League Two side Scunthorpe United and made 46 appearances. In January 2018 he moved to Southend United on loan until the end of the 2017/18 season, playing 7 games, and then joined the Shrimpers on a more permanent basis ahead of the 2018/19 season and quickly became captain, totalling 43 games and scoring 5 goals.
Pics manager Liam McDonald told his club’s website: “I am absolutely delighted to get Sam on board.“Having already had a spell here, he knows the club and what we are all about.“He really wanted to come here, which is so important. He’s an outstanding footballer and this is just a massive coup for the club.
“He captained Walsall and was skipper at the level above last season with Hemel Hempstead, so we know how good he is going to be in the dressing room.
“I am over the moon that he has chosen us over a lot of other options, and he will be key to our success in the season ahead.
“He’s a local lad and this is an ideal situation for all concerned and I know that our fans will be pleased with this signing.”

Alex Cameron, 22, moves to Dales Lane from league rivals Redditch United. He had re-joined the Reds in October 2021, having moved to Northern Premier Division One Midlands side Sporting Khalsa in June 2021 from the Trico Stadium. He had originally joined the Reds in the summer of 2020 from Tividale, where he had been since November 2019. A natural talent with an eye for goal, as a youth team player he was a prolific goalscorer for Stourbridge. He also proved in the 2017/18 season that he could step up into open-aged football with a string of outstanding performances for Dudley Town, which earned him a place in Stourbridge’s first-team squad.

McDonald said of Cameron’s arrival: “He has always caused us problems when we have come up against him.“On his day he can be a real handful for opposition defenders and now this is an opportunity for him to come here and show what he can do.
“Hopefully he will grab it with both hands and flourish to prove the doubters wrong.“He is a fighter and a tough lad both physically and mentally and I am sure that he will be able to meet the demands that will be put on him here.“I am pleased to have him on board”.

LIKE ILKESTON, BEDFORD LOOK SET TO MAKE ANOTHER PROMOTION CHALLENGE

DATE: SAT 25 JUN 2022   BY STEVE WHITNEY

Another New Eagle Settles In

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central newcomers Bedford Town have strengthened their squad with the signing of defender Luke Pennell.

After spells as a schoolboy at MK Dons and the now-defunct Rushden & Diamonds, the now 26-year-old moved on to play for Banbury United, Wolverton Town and Dunstable Town. It was at Dunstable that the 6’3″ defender attracted the interest of Dagenham & Redbridge, then in League Two. He signed for the club in March 2016 and went on to make a total of 47 appearances for the Daggers, scoring one goal, with his form for the East London outfit earning him an England C call up in late 2018. He signed for then-National League South club Maidstone United in July 2019 and left in January 2020 and signed for National League North outfit Gloucester City before moving to National League South side Braintree Town in the summer of 2021.

Bedford manager Gary Setchell told his club’s website: "When Jon Taylor made me aware that Luke might be available, it was a no-brainer to speak to him and see if he would come over to the Eyrie. “He is a player who is strong and played at the top end of non-League for many years. Special thanks go to Jon for enabling this to happen, through his connection with Luke already".

BRADLEY SIGNS FOR TAMWORTH

BRADLEY SIGNS
 Tue 28 Jun 2022 - 09:00AM

Sutton Coldfield based Alex Bradley is delighted to sign for Tamworth from Yeovil Town, with the Lambs fighting off competition from a host of higher league clubs for the player who made 39 appearances for the Glovers.
The Lambs management team identified that central midfileld was a key area to strengthen and Alex fits the bill perfectly.
Alex joined the Somerset outfit in January 2021 on an 18 months contract following a successful loan spell from Lincoln City. He is a graduate of the West Bromwich Albion academy and moved to Lincoln in 2019. He enjoyed loan spells at Havant & Waterlooville & Burton Albion (playing 7 games in League One) while at the Baggies.
The 23 years old already has National League promotion pedigree under his belt, having made 23 appearances for Harrogate Town (during a loan spell from Lincoln), when The Sulphurites reached the Football League via the play offs.
Alex qualifies to play for Finland (his Mother was born there) and he has youth international experience with Finland, playing in the 2018 UEFA U19 Championships.

After securing his signature Andy Peaks said, "I am delighted to secure the services of Alex Bradley for the coming season. "I feel it’s a massive coup for the club to get someone of his calibre on board. "He was rightly attracting lots of interest from clubs in the National League, some offering him full-time football still. His pedigree speaks for its self and what really impressed me is his attitude, the fact he came to the club to take part in a training session before signing speaks volumes about his desire to do well and to ensure he was committing to a club that train to a very high standard, do things professionally and show ambition that match their facilities."
Welcome to the Lamb Alex!
