Unfortunately the Ilkeston Town Supporters Bus has been attacked and windows smashed by some mindless youths after the game at Tamworth. The police are at the scene and everyone from Ilkeston is safe and well.

Re: Tamworth v Ilkeston Town : Sat 6th Aug

Sorry for the lack of updates after I lost my internet connection.

Anyway,  it was a game of few chances with defences on top. ilkeston had their best spell in the opening 15 minutes. Gradually Tamworth got back into the game but neither side really looked like breaking the deadlock. Tamworth had the better of the second half but couldn't trouble Deeney. With 5 minutes left Ilkeston forced a corner. Several players piled in to get on the end of it and i think it was Kalern Thomas who headed home. It was against the run of play but Tamworth had never looked like scoring.
We were ahead but in my opinion we were robbed of a win. A long high punt down field looked to be caught by Deeney but he was clattered by a chasing Tamworth forward. The ball ran loose and was put into the net. I couldn't believe a free kick wasn't given.
In the end a draw was a fair result but I can't wait to see a replay of the incident

The game passed with no trouble as far am awarel. Then bang, bang, as the Supporters Bus was pulling away from the ground two missiles smashed into our coach windows  The police were called and arrived quite quickly. After about a 30 minute delay we were able to resume the journey home

Re: Tamworth v Ilkeston Town : Sat 6th Aug

Considering we were without a recognised centre back we did pretty well defensively. It wasn't our strongest side so a point at Tamworth is not a bad result. I forgot to mention a Jamie Ward shot that was arrowing into the top corner and was tipped round the post.
I thought Dan Bradley was playing really well before he was injured, . He was getting some stick from the Tamworth fans. Ilkeston man of the match for me - Kalern Thomas  - a powerhouse performance.

Apparently one of the linesmen was attacked after the game

and I didn't realise that Martin Carruthers had been spat at.  ..........Disgusting! and doesn't say much for Tamworth's stewarding

Tamworth FC have some questions to answer.

TAMWORTH  V  ILKESTON TOWN  SAT 6 AUG - 15:00   SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER CENTRAL

Tamworth1-1 Ilkeston Town
After a successful pre-season The Lambs welcomed The Robins of Ilkeston to The CR MOT Community Stadium for the Southern League Premier Central opening day fixture.
Ilkeston, with familiar faces Dan Bradley and Jack Thomas in their ranks were promoted as champions from the Northern Premier League Division One Midland last season, and so would be wanting to start their campaign on a similar footing. Meanwhile Andy Peaks brought his updated and remastered Tamworth squad into the game looking for more of the same that saw his team end last season 14 games unbeaten. After an impeccably respected minutes applause for former Lambs boss Graham Smith, Ilkeston kicked off towards the Castle End and started the brighter with Gibson rolling a low shot wide of the mark on 2.
Jack Thomas threaded the ball to Gibson on 4 and his shot skipped past the far post via a slight deflection for a Robins corner by the clubhouse which was only half cleared for another on the opposite side.
A couple of Dolman’s clearances halted progression but Ilkeston continued to press The Lambs defence and forced another flagkick on 8 which was dealt with effectively.
Dolman got in the way of Troke’s shot on the turn on 10 and when The Lambs advanced a foul on Creaney 25 yards out on 12 set up Bradley with the freekick which he powered into the wall but the ball was rifled into the area and met by the head of McKeown, only to see it denied by the quick reactions of Deeney.
The game settled a little until the mid point in the half, when Thomas fired into Troke and he set up Gibson with a strike from the edge of the area but he lifted his shot over the target and Singh was happy to watch it go over.
Bradley as felled by his Ilkeston namesake on 29 for an indirect freekick 25 yards from the target and he dusted himself down and hit the target but Deeney took it easily at head height.
The Lambs pressurised and Finn forced a corner which worked it’s way back to Bradley but his shot from distance only troubled visiting fans in the segregated away end.
A forward push by Tamworth ended on 35 with a rattle of the woodwork from Collards strike, but a foul in the build up had already halted play.
Creaney dragged a shot from 18 yards wide of the left hand upright on 40 as Dan Bradley picked up a knock and allowed a quick drinks break for both sides.
Finn whipped a cross in on 42 Creaney flashed his header from a similar distance as Bradley had to be replaced before play restarted. Finn somehow missed the target leaning back as he struck from the right of the box in first half added time and McKeown forced a left sided corner on 47 which Collard nodded over the bar when well placed in the final action of the half.

HT 0-0

Tamworth restarted proceedings and inside the first minute Bradley was upended by an erroneous tackle but quickly recovered. Play continued and McKeown and Creaney combined with the latter firing past Deeney but into the side netting.
A combination of players down the left ending with Finn feeding Bradley in the D but his attempt was blocked by Robins captain Fenton and a deep cross from the right from Milnes on 52 was taken at height by Deeney.
Gibson found space on the left of the box to try a shot on the outside of his boot on 55 but found the top of the net and Brown-Hill forced Singh to drop and smother a shot from the left at the second attempt on 59 as the balance of play swung like a pendulum.
A foul on McKeown on the hour and a deep dead ball from Bradley found Collard past the post but his header back was cleared, and Finn tried to race onto a loose ball a minute later but was beaten to it as was McKeown to Bradley’s incisive pass 30 seconds later.
There was a booking for Jack Thomas on 64 after a trip on McKeown in front of the home dugout which brought the home bench to life and Collard headed the launched deadball wide of the mark under pressure.
A Bradley corner on the left was headed back by Creaney and Collard hit the bar before play was stopped for a foul on Deeney, then Bradley drilled the ball into the box from the right and McKeown got a good touch but Deeney was equal to it.
Milnes was booked for a foul on Goodson on the right corner of the box on 70 and Goodson was booked for retaliation after the foul.
Singh denied substitute Ward’s curling effort with a one handed bat away and Kalern Thomas’ header rebounded away.
The Lambs made their first change on 75 with Jones replacing Bradley and he nearly had an immediate impact but the half chance that came from his ball into the box was dealt with.
Dolman showed nothing was getting past him with a hefty challenge to deny the advance of the visitors and there were two more Lambs changes before a knock on Ward set him up with a freekick on the left of the area on 85.
His deadball deflected off the wall for a corner on the same side and from the corner Kalern Thomas met it with his head at the far post and it went in off the underside of the bar (0-1, 86 mins)
But The Lambs got themselves back into the game quickly via a massive clearance from Singh which fell for Deacon who beat Deeney to the dropping ball and fired home from 18 yards into the empty net (1-1, 89 mins)
Deep into added time Ilkeston loaded the final third with a freekick and then a deflected shot for a corner which came to nothing in the final action of the game.

After yesterday's incidents, I'm starting to think now that the segregation was because the Tamworth officials knew what their own supporters were like rather than Ilkeston's

Re: Tamworth v Ilkeston Town : Sat 6th Aug

Well that was my one-and-only trip to Tamworth FC.

We were (literally) penned in to the end behind a goal, stewards (and plenty of them) walking up and down to make sure we weren't standing too close to the front, that no-one was drinking alcohol, and that smokers were only smoking in the designated area. It felt very oppressive. Very unpleasant.

After the game, we left the ground and 2 minutes later we heard 2 big bangs as bricks (or whatever they were) smashed 2 of the bus windows. 5 Police cars in attendance as the Police explained that there was a second incident as their fans had attacked a linesman as he'd left the ground. And as reported, it sounds like MC was spat on by some of their fans.

As for the game, very little to report. Horrible synthetic pitch with the ball bouncing everywhere and both sides struggling to bring it under control. Very few chances cos both sides defended really well. Their 6 looked a good player and I thought Fenton, Bradley, Thomas, and Deeney played well for us. Gibson was usually ploughing a lone furrow up front cos we weren't getting anybody forward to support. Not impressed with O'Grady what I've seen of him. We thought we'd nicked it with a late goal but they got a very controversial equaliser.  It was scored at the opposite end to us so it was tricky to see, but it was a hoof up front from their keeper, Deeney came out to collect and got absolutely clattered by one of their forwards. Looked like an obvious foul and some fans were saying the ref actually initially blew for a foul but then allowed play to continue, and they slotted the ball into an empty net.

You'd have to say a draw was a fair result. Early days, but if Tamworth are one of the better teams in the league we've got nothing to fear.

Horrible experience at a horrible football club. And obviously a club with a serious hooligan problem. I hope they throw the book at them.

MC's (brief) thoughts ...

No wonder Martin Carruthers was incandescent in his after match interview.

Not a good day and not the best start to our Southern League experience.

When we were waiting to get on the bus after the game I tried to talk to one of their young stewards. He never looked me in the eye and kept turning away. It now makes me wonder if he knew what was in store for us.

Re: Tamworth v Ilkeston Town : Sat 6th Aug

I have given the club a description of one of the culprits , although it doesnt sound very good he could well be tracked through the towns cctv . He is described at a youth with a hoodie ( hood up ) and a scarf around his face  plus he was in the Hogarths pub earlier . I was sitting outside the Sherrif of Tamworth with few ilson fans and four Tamworth fans . The gang of Tamworth fans walked by singing songs but one song was quite funny the time but not now . It was sung to the elderly Tamworth fan about him and a BRICK .....
One of of the gang was wearing the description given earlier and we thought "omg he must mad or upto no good as it must have been roasting with all that on in the hot weather" . So when someone off the coach said this about one of the culprits i informed Liam of the club and i think he has passed this on.
Surely he could be picked on the cctv prior to the pub without his hoodie and scarf on . |Lets hope so.

Re: Tamworth v Ilkeston Town : Sat 6th Aug

.

Now that the dust has settled regarding our unfortunate experience at Tamworth, it's time to reflect. Tamworth appear to have a hooligan problem that they would rather not have and knowing that probably influenced their decision to segregate fans.

I think we should treat them with respect and kindness when they come to us. The hooligans that stoned our bus were almost certainly not Tamworth Football Club supporters. Genuine supporters would not cause problems for their own club without provocation . Nothing happened at the match to enrage their supporters. In fact the opposite, they scored a last minute equaliser that should have been disallowed, so the genuine Tamworth supporters should have left reasonably happy.

When they visit us their support will probably be nothing like the numbers that we took to Tamworth so definitely no need for segregation. Let us welcome them and mingle with them. But we do need extra stewards and a police presence just in case. We should ensure that the Tamworth players coach is protected and if possible, give them a police escort to the M1. We need to be on our best behaviour because the league will be watching.

Ilkeston supporter Paul Skillington posted this on his twitter account. I hope he doesn't mind me using it here.
It's about the problems caused by some junior fans at matches. Halesowen have come up with an attempt to combat the problem following help and advice from Maidstone United.

Following the abandonment of the Brookes-Clark Charity Shield second leg match at Stourbridge FC at half-time, we have reviewed our match day operations to ascertain where we can improve for the purposes of the safety of players, management, officials and of course most importantly our fans. It was evident that the predominant issue at the match was individuals 16 years and below, not accompanied by an adult, who displayed anti-social behaviour and seemed intent on causing trouble and who ordinarily do not attend matches at Stourbridge FC or Halesowen Town FC.  Clearly, for the enjoyment and predominantly the safety of everyone in the ground we have been looking at what other Clubs at a higher level have done to combat this issue. We have been speaking to Maidstone United, newly promoted to the National League about their Youth Membership Card scheme and they have been extremely helpful in assisting us in developing this scheme for Halesowen Town FC for the upcoming season 2022/23. We know the majority of our 12 - 16 year old fans are well behaved and come to watch the football, support the team and enjoy the afternoon with friends.  For these individuals, if you wish to continue to come to The Grove unaccompanied by an adult, you will need to sign up for a Youth Membership Card otherwise you will be unable to do so.  There is no charge for this, you just need to get your parents to complete the online form (link below) and submit your application and we will do the rest.  The only exception will be if you are the holder of a Youth Season Ticket or you become a Youth Membership Card Holder. There will be no admittance to The Grove, on any match day, for 16 years and below without a paying adult (18+) or concession (60+).  There will be NO exceptions to this rule unless you are a Youth season ticket or Youth membership card holder.
The policy of Under 12's not allowed into the ground without a paying adult (18+) or concession (60+) will also continue without exception
We hope everyone understand the reason for the introduction of this scheme and the need to protect our Club and fans from this mindless minority whose behaviour is completely unacceptable.
If you would like to apply for a Youth Membership Card, please complete the form below and upload the parental ID and a photo of the young person for their membership card. Before completing the form, please make sure you read the ground regulations for The Grove to which you and your child(ren) are agreeing to adhere to.Ground Regulations: https://www.ht-fc.co.uk/ground-regulations-1
Please Note: You MUST have a google account to register your application

Has this idea been forward to our club. ?? I think we should especially after the final whistle of the Shepshed game . Something has to be done around all non league grounds before someone seriously gets hurt . I was lucky I only got one kick to the head at Chasetown anymore I think I would have hospitalised.

Dave has been considering ways of combating bad behaviour and one idea is to install a camera on the turnstile so that we have a picture of everyone attending the game. Hopefully if everyone knows that we have their picture then any potential troublemakers will be less inclined to cause trouble and risk being banned.
