Sat 27Aug 22 - Rushden & Diamonds v Ilkeston Town

.

The Rushden match seems to have been overshadowed by the upcoming FA Cup tie at Matlock. But success in the league has to be our main aim.
Both ourselves and Rushden are without a win so both of us will be desperate to pick up  the 3 points.
Surely Rushden are currently in a false position as they finished just outside the playoffs last season.
Their average home attendance last season was 424.

In their 4 matches so far they have drawn with Needham Market and lost to Basford, Hitchin and Alvechurch.

Rushden away is the first of three big matches coming up. The next match is always the most important because the result of that game influences the confidence level for the game after that.
Because we haven't won yet we have not been going into matches with confidence. A win at Rushden would be a terrific boost for the team going into the Bank Holiday game with Mickleover.

SO...Where did all the R&D supporters go when they fell out of the League and then folded...? No loyalty.. or just glory seekers...?. Once upon a time, Rushden Town and also Irthlingborough Diamonds, of course. From old...Good days...I think IIlson played the old R&D at the the now demolished best ever non-league stadium..

That's a really good question Plymrob.  Where did all those thousands of supporters go?

This is from Wikipedia :

The original Rushden & Diamonds was formed on 21 April 1992, following the merger of Irthlingborough Diamonds and Rushden Town. The club's early years were marked by success. Within four seasons the club had reached the Conference National, and within nine the club were members of the Football League. However, following their promotion to Division Two the Diamonds' fortunes took a turn for the worse. The club were relegated twice in three years, and suffered instability off the field. Seven different managers took charge of the team between March 2004 and May 2011, while the club itself was controlled by four different parties during the same period. Following a period of sustained financial difficulties during the 2010–11 season, the club were expelled from the Conference at the end of the campaign, and entered administration that July.

At an open meeting chaired by a supporters group called SaveRDFC, a mandate was agreed upon to create a phoenix club, fully owned and controlled by its supporters. A team was created and accepted into the Northants Senior Youth League for the 2011–12 season, while a senior team played in the United Counties Football League Division One for the 2012–13 season. They are currently members of the Southern League Premier Division Central.

Rushden's record attendance was at home to Leeds United in the FA Cup. 6,431 witnessed a 0–0 draw as Rushden held their illustrious Premier League opponents to secure a replay in Yorkshire. Around 3,000 Diamonds fans made the trip up the M1 in a crowd of over 39,000 at Elland RoadCarl Heggs put Rushden into an 11th-minute lead. However, class told in the end and United eventually ran out 3–1 winners to halt Diamonds' superb Cup run.

Re: Sat 27Aug 22 - Rushden & Diamonds v Ilkeston Town

.

I said that the league table wouldn't show the stronger teams until after the end of August ie after 6 matches. We've played four so far, so there's two to play and I think we need pick up at least 4 points to be mid table.
Coalville who just missed out last season have got off to a flyer and have seven points more than us already. Although it's extremely early days, the way they have started makes them look firm favourites to finish in the automatic promotion spot.
For Ilkeston to be in with a chance of promotion we need to finish in the top five. Although we haven't made the start we wanted we should be capable of doing that. Tamworth look likely playoff contenders so there's three other playoff places to play for. There's plenty of time for current league positions to change and there will be not only Ilkeston who hope to climb the table and ultimately make a playoff challenge.
So yes, it's still very early but we really need to get a win under our belts and ideally this Saturday against Rushden.

We've been unfortunate with injuries that have prevented Martin Carruthers from playing a settled side and O'Hanlon's red card last Saturday has made matters worse. Who will replace him, Brown-Hill or Bennett or Hilton?
Will Erett-Thompson come into the team? Are Turner and Bradley recovered from injuries. There are so many possibilities, it's impossible to know what the team will be.

Wins against Rushden on Saturday and Mickleover on Monday would change the mood completely and take us into the top half of the table.

.

i am going tomorrow so really looking forward to the day and the game .  Although i am not panicking i do think we need a win and nothing less . Yes its still early days but how long do we keep saying that. IF god forbid we dont get any points this weekend are we allowed to get a tad worried ? But on the other side of the coin if we get to wins , that throws right back up there ......No less than six points for me guys for this weekend please guys ....

Re: Sat 27Aug 22 - Rushden & Diamonds v Ilkeston Town

Half an hour to kickoff . It's bright sunshine and a warm afternoon again. Rushden's ground is very compact but the grass pitch looks nice and flat.  I've got a decent view apart from one corner.

Ten minutes to kickoff now and we have some cloud cover but its mainly sunny.

Rushden coming into the game now. Another diamonds attack sees a right wing cross too high for Conor Tee. Ward brings a fine save from Snedker at the expense of a corner. Ward fires over.     0-0     23 mins
