Re: Sat 27Aug 22 - Rushden & Diamonds v Ilkeston Town

Late chance for Hicks but Deeney saves.  Now it's a corner for Diamonds.   Kalern Thomas heads clear and there goes the whistle.

Full time   Rushden & diamonds   1   Ilkeston Town 1

Really good game but it's another draw.  Good comeback after going behind

Re: Sat 27Aug 22 - Rushden & Diamonds v Ilkeston Town

A draw was probably a fair result. Both teams tried hard to win the game. Rushden came closest with a shot that hit the underside of the bar but stayed out. On first sight, I thought that it had gone in. Fenton hit a free kick against the post for us and we had a really strong penalty appeal that was turned down.

Southern League Premier Central
AFC Rushden & Diamonds  1  Ilkeston Town  1
Ilkeston remain in the bottom half of the table following another draw. It certainly wasn’t a bore draw though as both teams tried hard to win a competitive game. Conor Tee put Rushden ahead just before half time but Montel Gibson levelled after the break.
Ilkeston started strongly and dominated the opening 15 minutes. A Kieran Fenton free kick struck Dean Snedker’s post and Ollie Brown-Hill had a shot blocked by a defender. Diamond’s first effort came on the counter on 16 minutes but Worsfold-Gregg’s effort was too high. Tee nearly got on the end of a cross for Rushden and Jamie Ward forced a fine save from Snedker. Billy Bennett’s long throw-ins into the Rushden penalty area were causing the hosts problems every time but it was Diamonds who struck first. Tee picked up a forward ball and finished well after making good ground.
As in the first half Ilkeston started the second period the stronger. Remaye Campbell tested Snedker after cutting inside then Diamonds survived a desperate goalmouth scramble. Ilkeston nearly conceded when a Rushden shot crashed against the underside of the crossbar and stayed out. On 61 minutes Ilkeston got the equaliser they deserved when Gibson headed in Ward’s free kick. Ilkeston were convinced they should have had a penalty when Ward’s shot appeared to be handled by defender. Jack Thomas saw Snedker off his line but couldn’t find the net then a Rushden defender cleared off the line as Ilkeston pushed for a winner. Ten minutes from time Ilkeston did find the net but Snedker had been fouled. Despite Ilkeston’s pressure it was Rushden who nearly snatched victory but Nathan Hicks was foiled by Saul Deeney’s excellent save.

Sorry it it just me but we are saying tooooo much long ball football. It either goes way too far , to high , out for a throw in or completely missed placed . Its very rare it works . Please can we play football.

.

Must say that I thought the new lad Declan Eratt-Thompson did really well. Especially in the opening 15 minutes which we dominated. He was aggressive and really got stuck in. I was surprised when we signed him but I think he will be useful signing.
With the players we've got I think its only a matter of time before we click into gear.
