Great result today it always is when you at your local rivals . First half wasn't anything to talk about altho Matlock had the better chances .
Second half we were the better team and it showed with the two goals .
First was a bit weird as Remaye got an awkward header and Montel said thnks .
Second goal was a really good goal. Great work down the right with Joe and Tommo . GOAL.
We actually played football . Love it

Nice to get a bit of luck today. With so many injuries we did better than most people expected. Matlock were the better side in the first half but we restricted them to only a couple of real chances which they failed to take. I'm not sure what exactly happened with our first goal but the ball ended up at Montel's feet with an empty goal in front of him. Just before that the excellent Tom Solanke almost scored a debut goal. Our second goal was well worked and we almost got a third moments later when the ball struck the post. There were some really good performances. Deeney was commanding and never looked like being beaten. Joe Wilson played like he'd never been away. He settled in straight away defended well and made some great attacking runs down the right. Ollie also did well on the left defending and getting forward. Willock and Fenton were solid at the back. Midfield looked much better than of late with Jack Thomas, the tenacious Eratt-Thompson and the classy Solanke. O’Grady playing out of position wide left did all that was asked of him. Campbell and Gibson worked tirelessly and got their reward. Bennett and Troke brought fresh legs onto the pitch to secure the win.  There, i’ve mention every player because they all contributed to our first win. So pleased for Martin Carruthers who must have felt under a lot of pressure. Hope the win restores confidence because we now need to replicate that form in the league.
Wilson and Solanke both look to be excellent signings.

Much better performance and you have to say they all put a shift in. Looks like they’re all still playing for the manager, and probably all players scored at least a 6 for their performance. Wilson and Eratt-Thompson did well down our right flank, but the standout for me was Tom Solanke. Neat and tidy player who can play football. Plays it nice and simple and actually tries to pick out one of our players, rather than playing a hoofball. And one thing he did was to link the midfield to the attack, he actually had a pretty good chance in the second half but he dragged his shot wide. Not a big OBH fan but he did well yesterday, snuffing out attacks down our left side. I think our team is always better when Billy Bennett is in it. I thought Deeney looked solid, and scoring a goal has got to help Campbell’s confidence. Hopefully Dan Bradley is back next week and really looking forward to see Arlott-John play.

Saturday's Emirates FA Cup Round-Up
FA cup matches involving teams in our League

It was Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round action for a number of clubs in the Pitching In Southern Football League on Saturday. And as usual, there were a few surprise results!
Premier Division Central club Hitchin Town, who have made a decent start to the new season, came a cropper at Top Field against Isthmian League North Division side Heybridge Swifts. In front of a crowd of 424, Darren Phillips gave the Essex visitors a 26th-minute lead. And then Jack Adlington-Pile bagged a brace on 65 and 76 minutes to send Swifts through to Monday’s draw.

Hitchin’s league rivals, managerless Hednesford Town, were beaten 3-1 at Keys Park by ten-man Northern Premier League Division One East side Long Eaton United. Jack Rogers gave Long Eaton an early 7th-minute lead that Micah Jebbison doubled just 4 minutes later. In first-half injury-time, Rogers scored his second and the visitors` third. And even after losing Tyreece Robinson after 56 minutes, dismissed for a high challenge, United held firm until the last minute when caretaker boss Leroy Lita netted a consolation for the Pitmen.

The North Leicestershire derby between NPL Division One Midlands hosts Shepshed Dynamo and Premier Division Central high-flyers Coalville Town finished 1-1 at the Dovecote. Ashley Chambers` 55th-minute opener for Coalville was cancelled out by Sam Moore 20 minutes from time.

Another team fancying their chances of completing an upset now are Midland League Premier Division Highgate United after holding Premier Division Central outfit Barwell to a 1-1 draw at the UK Flooring Direct Stadium. And the Canaries were fortunate to get a second chance as Melis Bushaj’s equaliser didn’t arrive until the 90th minute!

There were some outstanding results too. Premier Division Central new boys Basford United enjoyed a 5-0 home romp against Highgate’s league rivals Romulus. Anthony Dwyer netted a hat-trick and there were singles for Tyreace Palmer and Gregg Smith.

Premier Division Central hosts Tamworth hammered NPL Division One Midlands neighbours Boldmere St Michaels 6-0 at the CR MOT Community Stadium. Eoin McKeown and sub Alex Jones both bagged braces – Jones` included a penalty – with Dan Creaney and Jordan Clement also on target for the Lambs.

Tamworth’s league rivals St Ives Town triumphed 4-0 at Westwood Road against Essex Senior League side Barking with Nabil Shariff netting a hat-trick and Ethan Johnston the other.

Premier Division Central side Bromsgrove Sporting avoided a Victoria Ground banana skin against NPL Division One Midlands outfit Stamford AFC, winning by the odd goal in seven. A crowd of 518 were well entertained as Jon Margetts` 2nd minute penalty for the Daniels was overtaken by Miro Pais on 17 minutes and a Dan Sweeney brace on 22 minutes from the spot and 38 minutes.Margetts bagged his second of the game on the hour-mark only for Sweeney to complete his hat-trick from the spot again 3 minutes later. Rob Morgan pulled a third back for the visitors in the 76th minute, but the Rouslers hung on.

The experienced Adam Rooney netted a hat-trick as Bromsgrove’s league rivals Stratford Town eased through 4-0 at the myenergi Stadium against NPL Division One East side Cleethorpes Town. Rooney scored in the 42nd, 50th and 60th minutes, with Dan Lafferty adding the other in the 80th minute.

Nuneaton Borough beat NPL Premier Division Belper Town 3-1 at Liberty Way in front of 587, coming back from being a 34th minute Alex Peterson goal down to win, thanks to Kane Richards and a Matt Stenson brace – his second from the spot.

A crowd of 695 saw Ilkeston win 2-0 at The Proctor Cars Stadium against managerless NPL Premier Division hosts Matlock Town with two goals in 3 minutes just after the hour-mark from Montel Gibson and Remaye Campbell.

Mickleover were beaten 3-2 at the Don Amott Stadium by Alvechurch, while Redditch United won 4-1 at Dales Lane against Rushall Olympic. Bernard Mensah with two Ryan Boothe and Robbie Bunn for the Reds.

Other Premier Division Central teams through are Bedford Town, who won the derby at Hillgrounds in front of 511 against Division One Central neighbours Kempston Rovers 2-1 with goals from Drew Richardson on 56 minutes and Craig Mackail-Smith on 79 minutes - Pemi Aderoju pulling one back 5 minutes from time.

Kings Langley won 2-0 at Kempston’s league rivals Harlow Town with Kennedy Feyi and Harry Crawford the scorers.

And Royston Town won the derby at Hertingfordbury Park against another Division One Central outfit, Hertford Town, thanks to a hat-trick from Matt Bateman.

Re: Matlock Town v Ilkeston Town ; FA Cup : Sat 3 Sep : ko 3pm

Yes I thought we looked nervous in the first half and Matlock had the best of the play. Matlock look to be  side who are also lacking in confidence. This made it a first half measured by mistakes rather than excellent football. We started to get forward more in the second half and got our reward when we forced the Matlock defence in to a mistake which Reamaye and Montreal capitalised on. Our confidence surged after this and we were on top from there onwards. All the new players looked useful especially Wilson, Errat-Thompson and Solanke. The whole team worked hard but I was impressed with Montel and Remay up front who ploughed on despite getting few quality balls early on. As mentioned before I was so pleased for Martin and Wayne because they have had a lot of unfair criticism (in my opinion on social media) in the recent weeks. The Matlock officials were lovely like Mickleover and are also a great advert for Derbyshire football.

Re: Matlock Town v Ilkeston Town ; FA Cup : Sat 3 Sep : ko 3pm

I wouldn't say unfair. Fans are aloud to have a say.

Great team performance but i wasnt happy with our captain yesterday. For the 1st 20 minutes he got his pants pulled down by there number 10. Fenners was happy to blame everybody else when he got skinned a couple of times and that was it for a 1st half of nothingness from both teams. Second half matlock looked lost but this is where you have to give our players a lot of credit because the work rate was brilliant. Ive said all season when this team clicks we will thrash somebody. I know its because of injuries and yes we do look a little thin on the ground but take your hats off to mc and wh for juggling the team about to keep us a strong team. Man of the match joe wilson. Gave the team balance and always looked positive on the ball.
We have a couple of had league games ahead over the next week. I would take 2 draws. We have a strong squad but this squad needs to turn into a strong starting 11.

Matlock's Match Report

Matlock Town FC vs Ilkeston Town    Attendance: 695      Referee: Callum Parke    Date: 03 September 2022

Match Report    Matlock Town 0-2 Ilkeston Town

At the end of a difficult week, this was precisely the result Matlock didn’t want.It was again a too familiar tale of failing to take chances when they were on top and then being punished for it.

So for a second successive year Matlock went out of the Emirates FA Cup at the first hurdle at home to a fellow Derbyshire club and while the performance was not as deflating as against Belper Town twelve months ago, it was still a horrible result for the Gladiators who are badly in need of a pick me up.

With Paul Phillips having departed the club on Thursday, his assistant Kayde Coppin and goalkeeping coach Steve Shuttleworth oversaw team affairs, recalling Jorome Slew in attack with Jake Day dropping back to the bench .Simon Njaria replaced the injured Alex Wiles in midfield.

The early signs were again encouraging, Slew robbing Tom Solanke in the Ilkeston half to fire a strong twenty five yarder which the well positioned Saul Deeney held. Then Callum Chippendale fired narrowly wide and after Reece Kendall had shot tamely at Deeney, Kendall created a good opportunity which Slew screwed wide.

A hamstring injury brought an early end to Chippendale’s afternoon, Kallen Murphy, now with the required international clearance along with Leigh Whelan, taking his place. Al Byrne’s 19th minute header was off target before Ilkeston created their first chance on 25 minutes, Montel Gibson heading over a cross from the right by Joe Wilson.

A fantastic Byrne cross from the right deserved better than no-one being on the end of it, Slew just being out of radar and then another centre from Byrne might have got greater reward than Kendall heading at Deeney. This followed a brief flurry of pressure from the Robins who forced two quick corners.

A Kendall cross bounced off the bar on 51 minutes before Ilkeston, growing into the game, might have gone ahead when Tom Solanke found space on the left and his shot narrowly beat the far post.

It was going to take a worldie or a bad error to break the deadlock and sadly for Matlock it was the latter as Jim Pollard came charging out of his box to challenge for a ball that had unfortunately deflected off Mark Lees’ head. Remaye Campbell managed to knock the ball into space leaving GIBSON with the easiest of finishes on 61 minutes.

Three minutes later there was worse to come from Matlock although this was a well worked goal, the impressive Declan Eratt-Thompson scampering down the right to cross low for CAMPBELL to convert from close range, this being the kind of incisive finishing Matlock lacked.

On 67 minutes Pollard allowed a routine back pass from Qualter under his boot, the ball bouncing back off a post. Slew chased a long ball only to fire high over the bar on to the cricket area and Deeney pushed out a Jordan Barnett free kick with again nobody reacting but Ilkeston cruised through until the end.

MATLOCK TOWN: 1 Jim Pollard 2 Nico Degirolamo 3 Reece Kendall 4 Ioan Evans 5 Ryan Qualter 6 Mark Lees 7 Al Byrne 8 Simon Njaria(14 Leigh Whelan 62) 9 Jorome Slew (17 Jake Day 80) 10 Callum Chippendale (15 Kallen Murphy 17) 11 Jordan Barnett Other subs: 12 Sean Higgins 16 Adam Blakeley 18 Kallum Mantack 19 Kayde Coppin

Joe does speak so well for footballer. He also seems so happy to be playing for Ilkeston Town!
