Re: FA Trophy : Coalville v Ilkeston : Sat 8th Oct '22, ko 3pm

After today’s FA Trophy defeat, ITFC are getting some criticism on the Supporters Community Facebook page. Football is about getting results and we’ve not been dong that. I don’t know if the critics were at the game but I know that defeats are harder to take if you weren’t there. The loss of Montel Gibson and Billy Bennett is regretted by many supporters. We’re conceding too many goals so why isn’t Ben Turner in the side? Our only likely source of goals at the moment is Arlott-John. Of course we/ve been unlucky with injuries ie Bradley, O’Hanlon, Ward and Wilson.  Our last two defeats have been against decent sides but they have been games we could have won. We really do need a win on Tuesday night at Rushall.

............. because three consecutive defeats would be a new low in a season that started full of hope. We keep saying that there’s time to recover, which there is, but we desperately need a sign that we can start winning matches. Jamie Ward made two big changes at Coalville. Right back Tom Hilton, who was surprisingly recalled to the team did pretty well. The new boy Miles Mercury didn’t set the game alight but he has to be given time. I thought Remaye Campbell did his best and Arlott-John was always a threat. I like the way Solanke plays, he rarely gives the ball away.

The mood on the Supporters bus after the Coalville defeat was not downbeat because we knew that the final score was not a true reflection of how we had played.  For a team that must be low on confidence, getting a result from the trip to Rushall on Tuesday night is a difficult ask and that is followed by another tough away game at Royston.

It’s a fine line between winning and losing. A win on Tuesday would really lift the mood. A draw would be better than nothing.

An honest assessment by Jamie.
Good news is that Joe Wilson may be available for the Rushall match.

COALVILLE TOWN 4-1 ILKESTON TOWN  BY CTFC ADMIN

The Ravens progressed into the First Round Proper in the FA Trophy on Saturday with a 4-1 victory against Ilkeston Town. Adam Stevens used the fixture to make changes to his starting eleven and made 4 in total, Alex Dean, Connor Smith & Ash Chambers came into the side as well as club captain Steve Towers who made his first appearance of the season after recovering from an ankle injury picked up at the start of pre-season.

Stevens was forced into an early change just before the half hour mark, skipper Joe-Doyle Charles landed awkwardly after firing over the bar from close range on the volley & had to be stretchered off. It was the returning Towers who put Coalville ahead rising highest from Eliot Putman's corner to head into the top left corner. Dempsey Arlott-John levelled the scores 2 minutes into the second half, the winger cut inside from the left hand side and fired a shot inside the near post.

The hosts were back ahead 10 minutes from time, Tim Berridge drove into the box and crossed to the back post where the arriving Ash Chambers slid in to finish and restore their lead. It quickly became three when Marshall Willock brought down Berridge in the penalty area leaving the referee no option but to point to the spot, Tom McGlinchey stepped up and slotted the penalty emphatically into the top right corner.McGlinchey himself was then fouled by Jake Hilton inside the area, this time his penalty was saved down low by Battersby & the follow up from McGlinchey was also blocked.McGlinchey did add his second in the last minute of stoppage time, squeezing the ball in from a tight angle after driving into the box.

The draw for the next round of the FA Trophy will take place on Monday (10th) and will be posted across our social media channels.
