Tue 11 Oct 22 : Rushall Olympic v Ilkeston Town

.
Ilkeston travel to mid table Rushall trying to avoid a third consecutive defeat. The Pics have won their last two league games which has lifted them into the top half of the table. They won at Redditch 3-2 and followed it up with a 5-0 away win against Stratford.  Their away form has been better than their home form. Only 4 of their 14 points has come from home games and they will be looking to improve on that. Their average home attendance so far is 289.
Last Saturday, like Ilkeston, Rushall exited the FA Trophy, losing 4-3 at home to Hednesford.

This looks to be a really tough fixture to pick up any points from but we thought that when we went to Coalville for the league match so you never know.

Re: Tue 11 Oct 22 : Rushall Olympic v Ilkeston Town

.

Jamie Ward appeared far from happy when interviewed after the Coalville defeat. Personally I thought we played reasonably well for 80 minutes against a team who are 3rd in the table. It’s not like we are being totally outplayed. But as Jamie said we can’t keep saying we’ve played alright but failed to win again because it’s results that matter.

How expectations have changed since since being promoted to Step 3. Last season we went into every game expecting to win. This season with a completely different side we go to Rushall hoping to avoid defeat. The teams that we’re playing against this season are much better than the teams we played against last season and we have to give Jamie and Ben time to assemble a team of players of their choice.

We go to Rushall on the back of two defeats and after conceding seven goals but with a fair wind we could return to winning ways. With the return of Joe Wilson on the right and with Dempsey Arlott-John on the left we’re capable of creating opportunities. We just need to stop the goals flying in at our end and to facilitate that I would like to see Dan Bradley in the team.

Tonight’s matches in our league:

Leaders Tamworth are away to Bromsgrove Sporting while second placed Nuneaton travel to Rushden.
Basford have a chance to go six points ahead of Ilkeston if they can beat joint bottom Hednesford.
An Ilkeston win would lift them at least four places to 11th and a draw would lift them one place.
A Rushall win could take them to just outside the playoff positions.

Rushden & Damonds v Nuneaton
Basford v Hednesford
Bromsgrove v Tamworth
Coalville v Redditch
Royston v Kings Langley
Rushall v Ilkeston

Last night Leiston climbed from 8th to 4th with a 3-0 win at Hitchin.

Southern League Midweek Matches Preview

Tuesday evening sees struggling and currently managerless AFC Rushden & Diamonds attempt to achieve a second win of the season and score their first goal in four matches when they entertain joint leaders Nuneaton Borough at Hayden Road. Saturday saw Diamonds lose 4-0 at home to the other joint leaders, Tamworth, in the Trophy, whilst Boro saw off Northern Premier Division One Midlands neighbours Hinckley LR in the same competition.

The team sitting second-from-bottom, Hednesford Town, enjoyed a fine win in the Trophy at league rivals Rushall Olympic and their new-look team being put together by their experienced recently appointed boss Steve Burr look to be gelling. They face a tricky away game on Tuesday when they head to Nottinghamshire to play tenth-placed Basford United at Greenwich Avenue – Basford having survived a Trophy upset on Saturday after beating NPL Division One Midlands new boys Harborough Town but only after penalties.

Tamworth’s latest attempt to move clear at the top of the table takes them the relatively short distance to the Victoria Ground to play Bromsgrove Sporting, who are currently seventh but were victims of a Trophy upset when they were surprisingly beaten 3-0 at home by another NPL Division One Midlands outfit, Chasetown.

Coalville Town are third and they are involved in probably the game of the evening as the team immediately below them in the table, Redditch United, head to the Mander Cruickshank Solicitors Stadium. The Ravens enjoyed a comfortable home win against rivals Ilkeston Town in the Trophy on Saturday, as did the Reds, impressively 3-0 at Hitchin.

Ilkeston’s new joint bosses, Jamie Ward and Ben Turner, will have to pick their team up from their Trophy disappointment as they are away at Dales Lane against ninth-placed Rushall Olympic on Tuesday.

The evening’s other game sees Royston Town welcome Kings Langley to Garden Walk – both teams sitting in mid-table, level on points and goal difference!

Still waiting for a chance. Both defences giving nothing away so far. Close shave for Ilkeston but its only a corner. Battersby does well to push the header away.    GOAL for Rushall Shorrock on 17 minutes      0-1

Weaver has to race out to rob O'Grady. Big penalty appeal by Ilkeston as Wards shot hits a Rushall arm.

Big chance at the other end but Rushall shot goes over the bar.  Rushall are quicker to he ball just now. Good Ilkeston move but keeper Weaver beats Solanke to the final ball.    0-1     29 mins

Re: Tue 11 Oct 22 : Rushall Olympic v Ilkeston Town

Another corner to Rushall. Ilkeston scramble it away.  Willock gets second yellow and he's sent off.  Not much of a foul be but massive appeal by Rushall players maybe sways the ref.
2 minutes added time
Half time 0-1 and we're lucky its only one

Only one effort on goal by Ikeston and that was Ward's freekick that hit the wall.

Re: Tue 11 Oct 22 : Rushall Olympic v Ilkeston Town

Can't see us getting anything from this game now, specially being a player short.
We've been bullied by the more physical Rushall players  yet we've had a player sent off for what in my opinion were two trivial offences. Dempsey Arlott-John has seen little of the ball.
Rushall good value for their half time lead.
It will be interesting to see how Jamie Ward deals with this situation

Rushall are getting all the decisions but Ilkeston doing okay so far with a player short. Arlott-John cross diverted for a corner. It's cleared . Now its a Rushall corner. Arlott-John heads clear.        0-1       63 mins

great run by Hutchinson wins us a corner.  and another corner. Free kick for Rushall after O'Grady penalised. Ilkeston doing better than expected this half.  Arlott-John does well down the left but his shot goes across the goal..

Just when we were starting to play.   Now Arlott-John is sent off for a tackle he was entitled to make although it was a strong tackle.  The Ilkeston fans behind the goal are fuming but  we're now down to 9 players.

Another,  in my opinion, undeserved Ilkeston booking for a trivial offence.
We're into added time  The nine men have defended well.

There goes the whistle.

It's finished   Rushall 2  Ilkeston  0
