Tope fires goal wards but it hits a defender. At the other end a Bromsgrove shot is deflect for a corner .  Tope sets up Thomas but he doesn't connect properly. Strong finish by Ilkeston.        3-1        92 mins

Have to agree. When he first came he received some criticism but now he's really showing what he can do.  He was excellent today and he now has the crowd onside. He works hard and six goals in our last nine matches is a good return.

Re: Sat 22 Oct - Ilkeston v Bromsgrove Sporting : NMG - ko 3pm

.Good win today. What we know is that no result can be taken for granted in this league. There was a lot of good football today and the result was in doubt until our third goal in the 87th minute. The win lifts us into the top half of the table and with the new players looking good, our hopes of getting into the play off positions are revived. Reco Fyfe settled quickly and showed some good touches while Tope Obadeyi, when he came on, looked very comfortable and capable. Joe Wilson was a regular threat down the right and I thought Jack Thomas got himself into some good positions. Amazing how a couple of wins lifts the mood.

What am I going to say about this game today ???
O'Grady O'Grady O'Grady .
OMG what a performance by  Chris today absolutely brilliant. He was f-cking brilliant Winning numerous headers which I haven't seen since the God Gary Ricketts . But that touchline skill he produced and capped  off with a sub lime cross .... WOW. MAN OF THE MATCH by far .
Did I mention Chris O'Grady by the way .
I will put my hand up and say I didn't rate Chris one bit after the Tamworth game . But OMG what a player now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Sat 22 Oct - Ilkeston v Bromsgrove Sporting : NMG - ko 3pm

.
So pleased to see Chris O'Grady getting some well earned praise. It's took him a while to win over the fans but yesterday he had his best game and the fans responded. He's been scoring goals recently and that is probably why his confidence has grown. The assist for Remaye Campbell's header was outstanding and culminated in one the best goals seen at the NMG. The goal was such a relief coming near the end and pretty much ensured we got the win. The clocktower stand and behind the goal erupted in such a way that it was like the last minute winner against Yaxley last season when Reid crossed, Gibson headed back across goal and Remaye forced the ball over the line.
After a mixed start to the season and numerous player changes we now appear to be back on track. Jamie Ward has brought in some good players, admittedly some are on loan, but we now have better players and competition for places. We started October with three defeats. If we can get a third win on the bounce on Tuesday against Stourbridge it will be a massive confidence lifter. By the way I thought the the referee yesterday was excellent.

DATE: SAT 22 OCT 2022    BY STEVE WHITNEY
Saturday`s Premier Division Central Round-Up
Tamworth extended their advantage on top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central table to eight points after Saturday’s round of matches.

Remaye Campbell heads Ilkeston's third goal,

Andy Peaks` side beat Hitchin Town 2-1 at the CR Mot Centre Community Stadium, getting off to a great start with a goal inside the opening minute from Dan Creaney. The majority in the crowd of 668 had to wait until 6 minutes into the second half for the Lambs to increase their lead through Creaney again. And they were made to work hard for their victory in the end after Jack Snelus pulled one back for the Canaries 15 minutes from time.

Nuneaton Borough remain in second spot but were held to a 0-0 draw at Liberty Way by sixth-placed Rushall Olympic in front of 505.Leiston are now third after they drew 1-1 with Stourbridge at Victory Road.

After a goalless opening period at Victory Road, Finlay Barnes gave the home side their breakthrough just 2 minutes after the restart. And the Glassboys hopes of getting anything from the game suffered a severe blow when they had Joe Hull sent-off in the 56th minute for a late challenge. But with literally the last kick of the game, Lee Vaughan popped up with the Stourbridge equaliser.

Apart from Tamworth, it wasn’t a great day for the others in the top five. With both Leiston and Nuneaton drawing, Redditch United and Coalville Town were both beaten. The Reds were surprised at the Trico Stadium by lowly Barwell, who triumphed 3-1. Brady Hickey broke the deadlock to give the visiting Canaries the lead in first-half injury-time. Five minutes after the restart, Shaquille Master doubled the Leicestershire side’s lead and on 81 minutes, it was 3-0 with Kyle Rowley the scorer.Jack Byrne netted an 89th-minute consolation for the home side, who weren’t at the races today.

Bedford Town recorded a fifth win of the season at The Eyrie against Coalville. The Eagles took an early 2nd-minute lead through Connor Tomlinson and on 42nd minutes, Afolabi Soyemi-Ololade doubled the hosts` advantage. Ashley Chambers pulled one back for Adam Stevens` side with 6 minutes remaining, but the Eagles held firm for three points.

Basford United moved level on points with sixth-placed Rushall after their 2-2 draw at Westwood Road against St Ives Town. It was the Saints who took a lead into the break, courtesy of a 33rd-minute Jonny Edwards goal. Mat Thornhill pulled the Nottinghamshire side back on level terms in the 71st minute and just 2 minutes later, Tyreace Palmer made it 2-1 to the visitors. But with just 2 minutes remaining, Owen Betts conceded a penalty for handball and was sent-off, with Edwards duly converting the resulting spot-kick to equalaise. The point lifted the Saints to eighth and just a point behind Basford.

The struggles continue for AFC Rushden & Diamonds as they remain second-from-bottom after losing 2-0 at the Don Amott Stadium against Mickleover.

And with bottom side Hednesford Town picking up a point from a 3-3 draw at home to Royston Town, only a point now separates the bottom two.

Ryan Wilson broke the deadlock to give Mickleover the lead 6 minutes after half-time.And then 15 minutes from time, Andy Dales doubled Sports` lead.

A crowd of 490 saw the Pitmen share six goals with the Crows at Keys Park.Steve Burr’s hosts raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Ben Bailey after 12 minutes and Joe Cuff on 32 minutes. Adam Murray crucially pulled one back for Steve Castle’s men just 2 minutes into the second half, only for Chris Clements to restore Hednesford’s two-goal cushion less than 2 minutes later. Jarid Robson, who came off the bench at half-time, pulled a second back on 73 minutes and then equalised with 4 minutes left to play.

Emirates FA Cup heroes, Alvechurch are still fourth-from-bottom after sharing a 1-1 draw at Kings Langley. But Ian Long’s side left it late at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium after Jordan Parkes had given the home side an early 8th minute lead. The home side had Noyan Tajbakhsh sent-off in the 67th minute for earning a second yellow card for `simulation`. And then Jamie Willets pulled Alvechurch level following a corner in the 87th minute.

Ilkeston Town are now tenth after beating managerless Bromsgrove Sporting 3-1 at the Microlise New Manor Ground. A crowd of 704 saw the experienced Chris O’Grady give the Robins a 15th-minute lead. Mike Taylor equalised with a header in the 24th minute, only for O’Grady to double his tally to restore Ilkeston’s lead 5 minutes before the break. And O’Grady turned provider to round things off with the home side’s third in the 87th minute, scored by Remaye Campbell.

Stratford Town enjoyed a 4-2 win at the Arden Garages Stadium against another of the FA Cup heroes, Needham Market. Jack Storer put the Bards ahead after 25 minutes and 4 minutes later, Andre Wright added the home side’s second. Ross Crane pulled one back for Kevin Horlock’s side in the 56th minute, but less than 2 minutes later, Storer scored his second to make it 3-1. Wright then matched Storer by notching his second in the 84th minute, with a Paul McCone own goal accounting for the Marketmen’s second in the 86th minute.

Poor goal to concede - Wilson has to do more than that to block the cross and the centre-halves have to do better. You don't get tired of watching that piece of O'Grady magic for the 3rd goal though ...
