Re: Ilkeston v Barwell re-arranged date Sat 19th November

Arlott-John appeared to be hacked down but strangely nothing given.  Nothing quite coming off for Ilkeston. We're nothing like as dominant this half  We need another goal.       0-0     76 mins

Enoru makes another good run but the eventual shot goes wide. Header from Barwell corner goes wide.          0-0      81 minutes

Re: Ilkeston v Barwell re-arranged date Sat 19th November

We should have been out of sight at half time and now we're in danger of dropping points. Wow!!!  Gibson rocket makes it 2-0   Where did that come from?   He just let fly from 30yards out          2-0       83 mins

Gibson replaced by Reco Fyfe  on 84 mins and Reco makes a chance for Sherif who's thunderbolt just miss the target.  Free kick to Barwell on edge of area. It goes over the bar.       2-0    90 Mins

We're into 4 minutes added time.   Another free kick to Barwell wide left. They've not given up.  It's too high for everyone.

If Coalville won today we could play alvechurch on the 17th December instead of a midweek game

Well spotted Alex.
Yes, Ilkeston's opponents (Leiston) and Alvechurch's opponents (Coalville) on the 17th December are still in the FA Trophy therefore both Ilkeston and Alvechurch would be without a game. So it's an ideal opportunity to play our away fixture against Alvechurch which should have been played on 29th October but was postponed.

Re: Ilkeston v Barwell re-arranged date Sat 19th November

.
It was the proverbial game of two halves today. What a fantastic first half performance by Ilkeston. We only scored one goal but we made so many chances the game should have been done and dusted. During the interval Barwell's officials were amazed that they were still in the match. After so many near misses Declan Eratt-Thompson smashed in his first goal for the club. Listen to his after match comments, he's so modest.
Barwell did much better in the second half and looked capable of snatching a point. We really needed that second stunning goal from Montel. Even then Barwell never gave up but the score was about right in the end.
There were some really good performances. Top marks for Eratt-Thompson and Lamine Sherif. Both were outstanding. I liked Solanke but Sherif looks better. He was winning the ball all over pitch and looked really strong.

Ilkeston produced one of their most dominant performances in the first half but a super strike from Declan Eratt-Thompson was their only reward. The match result stayed in doubt until Montel Gibson hit a late stunner to settle the nerves and bring to an end Barwell's five game unbeaten run.
A chance fell to Gibson in the first minute but he sliced his effort wide, Then at the other end Beck-Ray Enoru fired over. As Ilkeston took control, Barwell keeper Andy Wycherley did really well to stop Remaye Campbell from scoring before Lamine Sherif’s effort was deflected wide. Barwell were being forced to defend and a Chris O’Grady header from Errat-Thompson’s cross was just too high. Wycherley then produced an excellent save to deny Dempsey Arlott-John. It took until 37 minutes for the break through but Eratt-Thompson’s first goal for the club was a gem. On receiving the ball 25 yards out he wasted no time in lashing a thunderbolt into the top corner. Barwell had a chance before half time when George Ward headed wide but Ilkeston deserved more than a one goal half time advantage.
Barwell were much better in the second half and had two good chances. First, Jahvan Davidson-Miller crashed a fine effort against the crossbar then Jack Deakin fired wide from a good position. As Barwell’s threat began to increase Gibson produced the second stunning goal of the game for Ilkeston. He worked himself into a shooting position some 25 yards out and let fly  with a rocket that gave Wycherley no chance. Sherif almost made it three after Reco Fyfe made the opening but his fierce shot flew the wrong side of the post. The visitors could have got one back in added time but Enoru lifted his opportunity over the bar.

Well done to the Barwell officials after the game. They didn't claim that they should have won after their excellent second half performance. They acknowledged that they were lucky to still be in the game at half time and that our two goals were unstoppable.

Did you know?

Before the Barwell match Jack Thomas was Ilkeston's only player to have played in every game this season.

Over the last six matches Ilkeston have collected 12 points. Only Leiston and Mickleover have picked up more points.

After drawing 5 of our first 8 matches, we’ve not drawn a league match since.

The highest attendance to watch Ilkeston this season was 882 at the NMG against  Mickleover.

The lowest attendance to watch Ilkeston this season was 253 at Rushall.
