Have to say the support at Alfreton was unreal and it was great to see and hear. We easily out-shouted the Alfreton fans during the game. Despite losing 6-1 there were no moans from anyone on the supporters bus after the game. Everyone knew that we played far better than the score suggested and that Saturday against Tamworth was the match that mattered. Everyone talked about the positives and there was no criticism of individual players. I think it’s fair to say that for the first time in a while all of the fans are united and 100% behind the Club. They very much appreciate what Dave has done.

I heard Dave telling the Alfreton officials that he was really fortunate to have fans who  understand and appreciate what the club are trying to do. There were no moans regarding “star player” Montel Gibson being allowed to move. Supporters know that whatever happens, there’s a reason for it and it’s done in the best interests of the team.

The Tamworth match is going to be epic so I hope we get a massive turnout. I know that many fans have been having to watch their pennies recently but will be there on Saturday for the big one.

Match Report  -  ALFRETON 6-1 ILKESTON  by Towerzey Lisa

Defending champions Alfreton Town return back to Derbyshire Senior Cup with a bang

Alfreton Town cruised through to the quarter-finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup when they demolished neighbours Ilkeston Town on Tuesday night at the Impact Arena. The Robins had started the brighter with Chris O'Grady and Reco Fyfe both going close, but a moment of sheer brilliance from Bailey Hobson gave Alfreton a 36th min lead.Having ridden a tackle just over the halfway line Hobson ran on to fire past keeper Saul Deeney from 25 yards, but Ilkeston responded through Tyree Wilson just six minutes later with a left-footed drive from the edge of the area. As the first half entered stoppage time a deft flick from Tom Denton regained the Reds advantage when he converted a Danny Preston free-kick at the back post.
Alfreton ran riot after the break, adding a third goal on 59 minutes when defender Jay McGrath tucked Preston's flag-kick inside the near post from close range.Just two minutes later Milan Butterfield celebrated with the Reds' fourth goal with a well-struck finish after Preston had laid back Hobson's deep cross.Dayle Southwell made it a trio of goals for Alfreton inside a six-minute spell when he headed home virtually on the goal-line after Denton had headed on another accurate Preston corner. The scoring was completed ten minutes from time when Denton headed home from an Adam Lund delivery.
ALFRETON: Askew; Clackstone. Preston, Southwell, Wiley [McGrath 31], Butterfield, Thewlis, Branson, Denton, Lund, Hobson [Conway 65].
other subs: Smith, Cantrill, Rhead.Referee: Gareth Davies
Attendance; 184

My slightly different Match Report:

Sat 3rd Dec 2022   Derbyshire Senior Cup : 3rd Round
Alfreton Town  6  Ilkeston Town  1
Three goals in a five minute blitz turned the game in Alfreton’s favour after Ilkeston had more than played their part in an entertaining cup tie at the Impact Arena. But in the end Alfreton’s superior finishing took them through to the next round with an emphatic 6-1 scoreline.
Ilkeston probably had the better of the first half but couldn’t convert their chances. Chris O’Grady was first to test Jake Askew then Reco Fyfe went close to opening the scoring. Jamie Ward saw the Alfreton keeper off his line but saw his effort from 40 yards out just fail. Tom Hilton did really well down the left but O’Grady couldn’t connect with his inviting cross. But it was Alfreton who took the lead with an outstanding strike from Bailey Hobson on 36 minutes. Ilkeston deservedly levelled through Tyree Wilson but just before half time Alfreton regained the lead following a corner converted by Tom Denton.
The second half saw Ilkeston push Alfreton back with some sustained pressure. Both Remaye Campbell and Kieran Fenton had efforts cleared off the line and Askew saved well from Tyree Wilson. Alfreton then punished Ilkeston severely for not taking their chances  with three quick fire goals by McGrath, Butterfield and Southwell to give the tie an unreal scoreline. Silvio Bello nearly scored for Ilkeston with a spectacular diving header from Dempsey Arlott-John’s cross but it was always a night when luck deserted us. Alfreton had the final say with a Denton header adjudged to be over the line before being cleared which rather summed up the contrasting fortunes of both teams on the night.
