Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

.
Due to current and ongoing freezing conditions there must be possibility of this match being postponed.

As Alvechurch are already eight games behind most other teams , could we offer to play them at the NMG where it's much more likely to be playable. We could then go to Alvechurch on 1st April instead them coming to Ilkeston?
In other words we reverse the venues of our two fixture against each other.

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

good idea but would they think we will have the advantage being at home. Yes we will have to go there but games behind and towards the bottom i think they would want the home advantage at their place.
Good point though..

It looks like Alvechurch have declined our offer despite the high likelihood of the match being postponed.

We have already contacted Alvechurch FC regarding this however at present they are not wanting to make a decision until Thursday.  This does not allow us enough time to organise staff and stock and therefore is an impossibly to accommodate this fixture at such short notice. We have notified them a deadline for a decision of midday tomorrow. We will keep you informed via official channels if anything changes. Should the game be at home and with it being so close to Christmas  we will be offering free entry once again. All season ticket holders will be upgraded to hospitality guests and have access to the new lounge and complimentary food and hot drinks

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

Alvechurch are one of the better teams in our league. They are only near the bottom of the league table because they have played far less games than all of the other teams.  If they were to win all of their games in hand they would be top.

They are where they are because of successful runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy.

They got through five rounds of the FA Cup beating Mickleover 3-2. Harborough 4-0, Nuneaton, 4-0, Worksop 3-2 and Cheltenham  2-1, before losing 2-1 in the second round proper to Forest Green Rovers.

In the FA Trophy they beat Bedford 3-0 and Nuneaton 2-1 before losing 4-3 to Leiston.

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

.
.
Like Ilkeston, Alvechurch have enjoyed rapid promotions in recent years. At the end of the 2016-17 they were promoted from the Midland Football League (Step 5) to Division One South of the Northern Premier League (Step 4).

In their first season in that League (2017-18) they finished as runners-up in resulting in promotion to the Premier Division Central of the Southern League. (Step 3)

A fourth-place finish in 2018-19 led to the club qualifying for the promotion play-offs. However, after beating Stourbridge 2–1 in the semi-finals, they lost 3–0 to Kings Lynn in the final.

Following two seasons curtailed by Covid, Alvechurch finished in the final playoff position last season (2021-22) and will be hoping for something similar this season.

This compares with Ilkeston's recent rise through the leagues:

In 2017-18 Ilkeston promoted from Midland League Div 1 (Step 6) to Midland League Prem Div  (Step 5)
In 2018-19 Ilkeston promoted from Midland Premier Div (Step 5) to NPL Midlands Div (Step 4)
2019-20  Season curtailed by Covid
2020-21  Season curtailed by Covid
In 2021-22  Ilkeston promoted from NPL Midlands Div (Step 4)   to Southern League Premier Central (Step 3)

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

There are nine scheduled matches this coming weekend.

Sat 17th December 2022
Rushden & Diamonds v Basford
Barwell v Bedford
Bromsgrove v Needham Market
Hednesford v Mickleover
Ilkeston v Alvechurch  (kick off 2pm)
Kings Langley v Redditch
Royston v Nuneaton
Rushall v Hitchin
Stratford v St Ives

The six matches at Rushden, Bromsgrove, Hednesford, Kings Langley, Royston and Stratford are on grass pitches so are at greater risk of being called off due to freezing conditions.

We need to beat Alvechurch to make up for the defeat against Tamworth but it won't be easy. It should be a really competitive match. If we can take all three points, and beat Basford on Boxing Day, then it wont have been a bad December.

A draw against Alvechurch is acceptable but we have to beat Basford.

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

,

What are the chances of Ilkeston v Alvechurch being a draw?

Ilkeston have now gone 13 league and cup games without a draw. (7 wins, 6 defeats) ...... and 8 homr matches since a draw

Alvechurch have gone 8 league and cup games without a draw (5 wins, 3 defeats) ......  and 7 away matches since a draw.

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

.

The match against Alvechurch is our 21st and the halfway point in our season.  So far we have 29 points from 20 matches. Even if we beat Alvechurch we will only have 32 points after half of our matches.and we'll need to do much better in the second half of the season.

I reckon it will take at least 74 points to get into the playoffs. That's another 45 points more than we have before the Alvechurch match this Saturday. We have to beat Alvechurch to keep our slender hopes alive

Because there are so many teams of similar strength and capable of beating each other, the opportunity to take the final playoff spot will probably remain undetermined until very late in the season. Several teams will think that they can do it so it’s going to be a battle where every point matters.

I believe we will do better in the second half of the season because (1) we have got used to the league, (2) we now have knowledge of the other sides and (3) we now have a stronger team. Even so it would be a major achievement to get into the playoffs from our current position.

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

I think we will be stringer in the second half of the season but its not going to be easy . Get our defence right in set pieces then we will have a good chance of the play off places .

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

.

It's a good thing that we moved our match against Alvechurch to Ilkeston because all of the grass pitch matches in our league have been called off due to the weather.

The only three matches to survive so far are all on artificial pitches:
2pm  Ilkeston v Alvechurch
3pm  Barwell v Bedford
3pm  Rushall v Hitchin

If you're coming to the NMG (Free admission) be sure to wrap up warm with plenty of layers including hat and gloves. Pack in behind the enclosed clocktower goal end for warmth in numbers.  Keep moving and have a hot drink at half time.

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

.

It's matchday and we are one of the few games being played. Get yourself down to the NMG and see non-league football at it's best. It's going to be a cracking match between two good teams. With the free admission for everyone today It's likely to be an exceptional turnout and a great atmosphere. Get to the ground early especially if you're coming by car.

Don't forget its a 2pm kickoff

Re: Sat 17 Dec - Alvechurch v Ilkeston

Another close game today and I can't see this being a nil nil draw . But I have said that before and it was, so what do I know . Can we get a Shawry type of defender coz I think we are missing a player like him. Constantly harassing forwards putting them with knodges etc . That's on my Xmas list .
