Re: Boxing Day : Ilkeston v Basford : ko 3pm

Ilkeston Town move up to sixth place after their hard fought draw against local rivals Basford United. A great point considering we played half the game with ten men!

Re: Boxing Day : Ilkeston v Basford : ko 3pm

Why do we get all the bad refs at the NMG.

Once again im talking about a ref instead of the match. The sending off was a joke, both players bang into each other, both players went down and the basford players run at the ref like he has been shot.

Then in the 2nd half Arlott-John got nailed by their number 11. The tackle was like his at rushall where he got sent off.

As a team i think we need to play the ref more. The amount of times you see other teams doing it to us.

The match itself basford came at us from the off but as the match went on we played well. Then the sending off, held off basford for 0-0 at half time.

2nd half we where the better side. All of our players putting in 100% all over the park and then just when you think basford had nothing else to throw at us they score. In my view against the run of play.
After the goal it was all us. Our goal came after some great football down the left then a quick switch to the right for rem to score.

1-1 a fair result for both teams. Moves us up to 6th.
Hopefully see you all at mickleover

Re: Boxing Day : Ilkeston v Basford : ko 3pm

Thought a point was the least we deserved for our second half performance.

Had a good view of the sending off, and it was six of one and half a dozen of the other. They were both grappling with each other; very harsh decision to send Wilder off. Battersby and Delap clatter into each other and are down for an age, and then Campbell has to limp off, and you fear the worst. Thought the ref was very poor today.

Basford are a good footballing side but very powder-puff in attack; you can see why they don't score many or concede many. A man advantage for an hour and they created next to nothing.

Strange decision to play 2 midfielders (Erratt-Thompson and Thomas) in defence in the second half. Not a big Thomas fan but he's got a good engine, why not play him in midfield and play Tom Hilton (a recognised full-back) at right-back?

Campbell MOM for me, scored a goal and worked tirelessly. Wardy worked hard today, just wouldn't give up, kept driving us forward, but again gets booked for arguing with the ref. Another game in which O'Grady did absolutely nothing.

Are Bradley and Wilson out injured? Looked like Delap got injured in the collision with Battersby. Straight red so does Wilder miss the next 3 games? We might be a bit light in defense for Mickleover. We've got Mickleover and then three teams in the bottom four; be really good if we could stay in touch with Rushall.

I think it was Harry Worgan on tannoy duties today, is he back in our media team? Craig Lamont and Harry Worgan left us to join Basford and both are now back with us?

You can't hear a thing on the tannoy stood behind the goal we were attacking the second half. Someone said the crowd was 1001; did they announce the winning 50/50 number? I don't know how many times we've had to ask Donald if he knows the winning number because the tannoy isn't working or we haven't heard it on the tannoy. It looked like Donald was selling quite a few tickets today, I'll wager a lot of people left without knowing whether they'd won or not, can't we put the winning number on a board outside (or inside) the clubhouse?

Re: Boxing Day : Ilkeston v Basford : ko 3pm

.

My match report :

Mon 26th Dec 2022
Southern League Premier Central
Ilkeston Town  1  Basford United  1
The first league meeting between Ilkeston and Basford ended all square after Ilkeston grabbed a late equaliser. The Robins had to play most of the match one short after Henri Wilder saw red for pulling back Basford’s Anthony Dwyer but despite their disadvantage the Robins never gave up and were rewarded by Rem Campbell’s late strike. The point lifted Ilkeston to sixth, their highest position, this season.
After a slow start, Basford started to look the more threatening, On 9 minutes a Courey Grantham effort brought a fine save from Ollie Battersby. Tyreace Palmer then headed wide from 6 yards out. As Basford continued to make chances the lively Starkie brought another top save from Battersby. It took 30 minutes for Ilkeston to register their first shot on target when Kieran Preston turned Dempsey Arlott-John’s shot round the post. The corner was quickly turned into a Basford break which resulted in Wilder’s red card. Initially Dwyer appeared to foul Wider but when Dwyer broke free Wilder pulled him back and a red card was produced. Ilkeston did well to reach half time at 0-0.
As in their previous match Ilkeston played better after the break and Basford were being kept at bay. There was a scare for Basford on 70 minutes when Chris O’Grady managed to dispossess Preston but Ilkeston couldn’t benefit. Basford then went down the other end and took the lead with a well worked goal when Dwyer fired home from Starkie’s cross. Basford looked for a second and Greg Smith headed over. Luther Munakandafa then tried to win a penalty for Basford but was booked for simulation. With three minutes left Ilkeston gave it a final go. They got a free kick just outside the Basford area and Preston pulled off a super save under his crossbar. A minute later, Preston could only parry Arlott-John’s shot and Remaye Campbell blasted in the rebound.

Round-Up of Boxing Day's Later Kick-Offs in the Premier Division Central
The later kick-offs in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central produced some interesting results in front of bumper crowds.

Remaye Campbell equalises (Photo: Ilkeston Town FC)

Leaders Tamworth eased to a comfortable 4-0 win at the Arden Garages Stadium against struggling Stratford Town. A crowd of 521 saw Ben Milnes receive a late Christmas gift of a hat-trick for the Lambs, opening the scoring after just 3 minutes and then, after Dan Creaney had doubled the visitors` lead in the 12th minute, complete his triple with a brace of penalties in the 85th and 88th minute.

Nuneaton Borough ensured Leiston’s stay in second spot was a brief one when they beat fifth-placed Mickleover 4-2 at Liberty Way.In front of 709, Luke Benbow’s 36th minute opener for Boro was all that separated the teams at the break. Charlie Dowd doubled the hosts` advantage just shy of the hour-mark and then Benbow scored his second on 65 minutes to make it 3-0. It got worse for Sports as they had Mason Warren red-carded after a scuffle with Lathaniel Rowe-Turner who is shown a yellow card. But the ten-men battled on and pulled one back through Elliott Reeves in the 77th minute. Kane Richards ensured there was to be no nervy finale when he notched Boro’s fourth with 10 minutes remaining, although Reeves did manage to pull a second back for John McGrath’s side in the 85th minute.

Rushall Olympic remain in fourth place after a 3-0 win at Dales Lane against second-from-bottom Hednesford Town. A crowd of 632 saw Andre Landell put the Pics one-up after 37 minutes and then Sam Whittall added a second right on half-time. Whittall bagged his second and Rushall’s third with 6 minutes remaining.

Mid-table Basford United prevented Ilkeston Town from moving into the top five after holding the Robins to a 1-1 draw at the Microlise New Manor Ground. Just over 1000 saw the home side reduced to ten-men when Henri Wilder was shown a straight red card for bringing down Anthony Dwyer in the 33rd minute. However, it wasn’t until the 71st minute that both Basford and Dwyer could take advantage when the much-travelled striker put the visitors in front. But just 2 minutes from time, Remaye Campbell grabbed a point for the ten-men.

It was hardly a great start to Chris Nunn’s tenure as manager of bottom side AFC Rushden & Diamonds as they suffered a 6-1 hammering at The Eyrie by neighbours Bedford Town.In front of 862, Charley Sanders gave the Eagles the boost of an early 5th minute lead that Ryan Hughes levelled 10 minutes later. Sanders` second right on half-time took the home side into the break in front. But it was the second half that Gary Setchell’s men got to work, with Connor Tomlinson making it 3-1 in the 52nd minute, Sanders completing his hat-trick on the hour-mark, Ed Gyamfi making it a nap hand 6 minutes later and then Tomlinson bagging his second and Bedford’s sixth 2 minutes into stoppage time.

There were several early kick-offs in the Premier Division Central.

Alvechurch, playing catch-up in the league after their cup exploits and needing points to move clear of the drop zone, shared a 3-3 draw in a derby thriller with Redditch United at Lye Meadow. A crowd of 541 saw Jed Abbey enjoy a late Christmas present with a hat-trick, opening the scoring after 15 minutes. But Reece Flanagan bagged a brace after 28 and 58 minutes to give the Reds the lead. And when Danny King made it 3-1 to the visitors, it looked like being a bad afternoon for Ian Long’s men. However, Abbey reduced the deficit from the spot 5 minutes later and then grabbed the match ball when he equalised 10 minutes from time.

Kings Langley moved out of the relegation zone after a 4-2 win at Top Field against a Hitchin Town side who were looking to move into the play-off places with a win. In front of 665, the Canaries got off to a bad start when recent signing Wilson Carvalho put the visitors in front inside 3 minutes. And then 2 minutes into first-half injury-time, James Kaloczi gave Kings a two-goal advantage. Lewis Barker managed to pull one back for the hosts 6 minutes later, only for Chuk Okoye-Ahaneku to restore Kings` two-goal advantage 5 minutes later. Ashley Hay pulled a second back for the Canaries on 64 minutes, but a second for the well-travelled Carvalho ensured a fine win for Kings Langley.

Leiston moved into second spot, albeit maybe only for a short time, after a last-gasp win at Victory Road against Needham Market. Joe Marsden put the hosts in front in this Suffolk derby after 27 minutes. The Marketmen suffered a blow, just when they were getting a grip on the game, when Patrick Brothers was shown a red card on 72 minutes for a second bookable offence. However, the ten-men grabbed an equaliser 6 minutes later when Luke Ingram converted a penalty. That looked like being enough for a share of the spoils – until Ben Fowkes headed a winning goal for Leiston 6 minutes into stoppage time.

Royston Town moved level on points with mid-table St Ives Town after recording a 2-0 win at Westwood Road. After a fairly even goalless first half, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart through Adam Murray. And then with 16 minutes remaining, recent signing Shomari Barnwell scored the Crows' second.

A terrific crowd of 1,263 saw the derby between Stourbridge and Bromsgrove Sporting finish all-square at the War Memorial Athletic Ground. Alex Moore gave the Glassboys the lead a minute into first half injury-time. Sporting finally achieved parity when Ammar Dyer equalised 7 minutes from time.

Re: Boxing Day : Ilkeston v Basford : ko 3pm

.
Although a point against Basford was better than nothing, we lost ground on Tamworth, Nuneaton, Leiston and Rushall who all won. Coalville (one point behind Ilkeston) play today and have four games in hand, so are best placed to occupy the final playoff place. We need Barwell to do us a double favour by taking points off Coalville today (27 Dec) and then beating Rushall on 2nd Jan. Basford could also do us a favour on 2nd Jan. by taking points off Coalville.
As things stand finishing above Coalville appears to be our best chance of sneaking into a playoff position.
Looking ahead a few days, Coalville have to play Tamworth on 7th Jan then Leiston away on Tue 10th Jan. so there are more possibilities of them not maximising points from their games in hand.
4th placed Rushall have 8 points more than us having played a game more. The Pics are in great form losing only one of their last eleven matches so the the top four of Tamworth, Nuneaton, Leiston and Rushall are starting to look very difficult to catch.
We still have to play three of our rivals, ie Coalville, Rushall and Nuneaton ,all at home.
Meanwhile we have to win our matches to stay in contention starting with three points at Mickleover.

Re: Boxing Day : Ilkeston v Basford : ko 3pm

             +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is about our having to reserve seats for visiting directors and officials. I'm assuming that there was a complaint made to the league by one of our visiting clubs that there was no reserved seats for them at Ilkeston. As a consequence we were ordered to make seats available exclusively for visiting officials.
The centre back row of the Clocktower Stand is now used for that purpose and of course some of our supporters who used to sit in those seats had to move.
It then sounds like some of the Basford officials were a bit OTT which is unusual for visiting officials as they are normally quite dignified.

Harry Worgan's match report:

Remaye strikes late to earn ten-man Robins a point
Dec 27, 2022

SPL Central    Ilkeston Town 1 (Campbell 88)  Basford Utd 1 (Dwyer 72)
By Harry Worgan

Remaye Campbell’s tenth goal of the season saw us take a deserved point, despite being down to ten men, as we drew 1-1 with Basford United for whom Anthony Dwyer had earlier opened the scoring. Basford started the front foot and after a relatively straightforward save to keep out Tyreace Palmer, Ollie Battersby was at full stretch to deny Courey Grantham from range. Palmer then found himself unmarked in the six-yard box but somehow guided his header wide. The visitors had another good chance but again Battersby kept us in the contest before we went close through Dempsey Arlott-John, who drew a good save from Basford ‘keeper Kieran Preston on the half hour mark. We were then harshly reduced to ten men just three minutes later. Henri Wilder was shown a straight red for pulling back Basford forward Dwyer, despite having appeared to have been fouled himself. The visitors looked to make their extra man count and pushed on at the end of the half but we did well to get to the break with the game goalless.

We started the second half on the attack as Arlott-John fired over the bar before Lee Tomlin’s chipped ball to the back post almost found its way into the far corner of the net. Grantham then drew another good stop from Battersby as both sides looked for what would have been the opener. A great run from Campbell won us a corner on the hour mark and captain Kieran Fenton forced Preston into a save.  Ten minutes later a mix up from the Basford number one allowed Chris O’Grady to steal the ball and roll it across the face of the empty goal but there was no one there for a certain tap in. Jamie Ward then burst into the area but a challenge from Stern Irvine took the ball away from him as he looked to shoot. On 72 minutes the game had its first goal. Ben Starkie, who had been lively throughout the game, rolled the ball into the path of Dwyer who was able to stroke it beyond Battersby. Eight minutes later they thought they had a penalty as substitute Luther Munakandafa went down in the area but he was booked for simulation. Up the other end Tomlin was fouled as he shaped to shoot at goal. From the resultant free-kick Fenton stung the palms of Preston, who had to gather at the second time of asking, as Tomlin looked to pounce on the loose ball. A quickly taken free-kick on 88 minutes then saw us level, as the ball was worked to Campbell and he made no mistake, guiding into the bottom corner beyond the outstretched Preston. There was then five minutes of added time but neither side was able to find what would have been a winner and we had to settle for a hard-fought point.

Remaye Campbell doesn’t get a lot of praise but he comes up with some important goals. He has now has 10 goals (7 league, 2 FA Trophy, 1 FA Cup).

Jamie Ward rates him highly for his commitment and willingness to play in any position.
