Tue 31st Jan 23 : Leiston v Ilkeston : ko 7 45

.

Tuesday 31st January, it's the re-arranged night match at Leiston.

Leiston have dropped fewer points at home than any other team. Their home record is Played 11, Won 9, Drawn 1, Lost 1.  Not surprising considering that visiting teams have to endure a long journey before their match.

Hopefully the Ilkeston players won't be suffering from bus lag because they they will be setting off early (12 noon) and arriving in Leiston well before the match giving them plenty of time to get over the journey

Re: Tue 31st Jan 23 : Leiston v Ilkeston : ko 7 45

I think you might find that a lot of the Leiston players don’t live in Leiston. Many probably get picked up half way towards their away venues ar services or transport cafes. One tip I was given is to pronounce Leiston as Layston not Liceton!

3G COMMUNITY PITCH PROJECT
BY BEN CUNNINGHAM   2 HOURS AGO
Leiston Football Club have unveiled plans to install a 3G football pitch to replace their current grass one at their Victory Road ground. The FIFA Pro 3G surface is hoping to be in place by the start of next season, with the Club already halfway towards the £700,000 they require for phase one of the project – the installation of the pitch and floodlights. However, the emphasis on the project is on far more than just Leiston Football Club and its many teams from U8s to the first team, with the wider community also set to benefit from the new facilities.
Club chairman Andy Crisp admitted to being delighted with the way the project is moving forward. Speaking at the launch of the ‘Leiston 3G Project’ at Fishers Gin Distillery, in Aldeburgh he said: “This is a very exciting time for Leiston Football Club. And this is one of the biggest projects the club has ever undertaken. “But just as importantly, this is a very exciting time for the town of Leiston and the surrounding area.
While our own teams will benefit from the facility, there are many other local teams and individuals who we want to enjoy it and benefit from it – and they will. This is very much a community facility, not just a Leiston Football Club one.
”While phase one is to install the pitch, phases two and three will include improvements to the clubhouse, changing rooms and additional car parking, among other things.
Leiston joint first-team manager, Darren Eadie, spoke of his enthusiasm: “We have just the one main pitch right now, which is regarded as one of the best in the county. But it takes an awful pounding at times.“A 3G pitch will mean we can actually train at our own ground, something that hasn’t always been possible. And of course the opportunity for local groups to make use of the facility is a great community boost.
”The Club continue to look for more investment to fund the project and anyone who would like to discuss further can contact:
Andy Crisp (Chairman) on acrisp5@aol.com
Dave Williams (Director of Football) on dave.wiliams@leistonfc.co.uk.

Re: Tue 31st Jan 23 : Leiston v Ilkeston : ko 7 45

.

With the huge disappointment of defeat against Coalville ringing in our ears, we travel to Leiston without real expectation of three points. So without the pressure of expectation will we produce a better performance?

Leiston have won 10, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their 12 home games. The only team to have won at Leiston is Kings Langley and that was back in August. Since then they have lost only one of eighteen league matches so the prospect of an Ilkeston win or draw on Tuesday night looks to be remote, especially as we go into the game with only one win from our last five.

After that bleak prediction, we still have a team of decent players who are capable of raising their game and producing a result on a particular day. It’s just possible that we bounce back from the Coalville defeat and spring a major surprise. Ilkeston’s undaunted supporters will be there as always and maybe, just maybe, we will be rewarded.

Re: Tue 31st Jan 23 : Leiston v Ilkeston : ko 7 45

There are four matches on Tuesday night 31st January.

Leiston v Ilkeston
Needham Market v Alvechurch
Royston v Nuneaton
Tamworth v St Ives

Belper Town are also playing tonight at home to current Northern Premier League leaders, Hyde United

Coalville v Rushall is postponed due to Coalville playing Banbury United in the FA Trophy.

I know it’s unlikely but an Ilkeston win would lift them from 9th to 6th. A draw would lift us to 7th. Another defeat almost certainly ends any lingering promotion ambitions.

Despite not feeling great I'm really looking forward to the Leiston match. Realistically, this is a match we're not expected to win but football is unpredictable. The team will have our support as always. Our away supporters are the best.
As always we go to Leiston looking for a result. I'm always optimistic and I have a feeling that after this match, Saturday will be forgotten and the gloom will be lifted.

We leave Ilkeston at 12 noon so we'll be arriving in plenty of time and maybe we'll have a seaside visit as Leiston is only a few miles off the coast.

DATE: MON 30 JAN 2023     BY STEVE WHITNEY
Leiston Receive PST Team of the Month Award.
Leiston are enjoying a tremendous 2022/23 season in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central.

Despite competing for promotion against big non-League clubs such as Tamworth and Nuneaton Borough, the Suffolk outfit currently sit in third spot after beating St Ives Town at their appropriately named Victory Road ground on Saturday.
Joint bosses Darren Eadie, the former Norwich City favourite, and Chris Wigger have built a strong squad of mainly locally based players and received some reward for their season to date by winning the PST Team of the Month award for November.
The month saw the Blues win away at strugglers Hednesford Town, beat league leaders Tamworth, Royston Town and Redditch United – all at home in the league – and progress in the Isuzu FA Trophy at home to league rivals Alvechurch to give them a 100 per cent record in the month.
The joint managers were presented with the award after Saturday’s 1-0 win against St Ives.

Re: Tue 31st Jan 23 : Leiston v Ilkeston : ko 7 45

Had we beaten Coalville  on Saturday we might have travelled to Leiston with some degree of confidence but this season we’ve not been able to produce any consistency. The top five now look to be uncatchable by the pretenders below them and there is likely be a big gap between the top five and the rest by the end of the season.
So far Ilkeston have done poorly against the top teams losing to Tamworth, Nuneaton, Rushall and Coalville. Defeat to Leiston tonight will mean that we’ve lost to all of the top five,
It now seems that pre-season optimism was unfounded but at least we’re in the top half of the table. That’s far better than our Derbyshire neighbours Belper Town who were promoted with us. They languish at the bottom of the Northern Premier League and look set for an immediate return to Step 4.

Big penalty appeal by Ilkeston but Ref doesn't give it. Wilson making some good runs forward and causing problems for Leiston.  Ilkeston doing better now.        0-0    13 mins
