Re: Five matches in our league tonight.

Long Eaton's win lifts them to 6th,  just outside the playoff positions.

Coalville move above Rushall

Mickleover move above Ilkeston

Tuesday's Premier Division Central Round-Up
Valentine's evening wasn’t kind to the bottom two in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central.

Both AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Hednesford Town lost, and with fellow strugglers Stratford Town and Alvechurch picking up points, it’s looking like Chris Nunn and Danny Glover’s teams are starring relegation firmly in the face. Diamonds were beaten 2-0 at Bloomfields against another side, Needham Market, who were in desperate need of the points, starting the game in fourth-from-bottom spot. The visitors` new French goalkeeper, Loris Marcimain, prevented his team from falling behind after 22 minutes with a fine double save from Kyle Hammond and Luke Ingram. And then with 2 minutes of the first half remaining, the Marketmen did break the deadlock when Ingram beat Marcimain from a tight angle. In the 67th minute, Kevin Horlock’s men scored a crucial second goal, and it was Ingram again, whose deflected effort wrong-footed the keeper and went in the opposite corner of the net. The win lifts Needham Market up to 16th in the table, 17 points in front of Diamonds with two games in hand.

Hednesford suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Race Stadium by a Mickleover side who are now sixth, albeit still eight points behind the top five. John McGrath’s visitors had already struck the woodwork before veteran forward Stuart Beavon put them in front after just 9 minutes with a deflected effort past Luke Jackson. Mason Warren came close to doubling the visitors` lead in the 18th minute but his strike came back off the crossbar. But on the hour-mark, Warren did add Mickleover’s second and, after Jackson had made a couple of fine saves, Warren made it 3-0 when his initial effort struck a post but fell kindly for him to bundle home.Hednesford remain second-from-bottom, just a point in front of Diamonds.

Stratford welcomed mid-table St Ives Town to the Arden Garages Stadium and had to be content with a point, despite being 3-1 up at one stage. The Bards opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Paul McCone latched onto a long throw-in to score. The Saints pulled back on level terms in the 25th minute with a well-taken goal from Jonny Edwards. But Stratford bounced back and a minute before half-time, Andre Wright got on the end of a Jamie Molyneux cross to make it 2-1. Just 7 minutes after the restart, Stratford moved 3-1 ahead when Dan Lafferty’s ball into the box was bundled into his own net by St Ives` keeper James Dadge. Just 2 minutes later though, Nabil Shariff pulled one back for the visitors and with 10 minutes remaining, Jordan Williams popped up with St Ives` equaliser. The points sees Stratford remain in third-bottom spot but eight points in front of Hednesford with four games in hand on the Pitmen and two on Diamonds. St Ives moved up to 11th in the table.

The derby at Lye Meadow between Alvechurch and Bromsgrove Sporting finished goalless in front of a crowd of 362. It was a fairly even encounter, especially in the second half after the Rouslers had the better of the opening 45 minutes. The point moves Ian Long’s Alvechurch side up to 17th in the table, 14 points in front of Hednesford and with seven games in hand! Bromsgrove remain in 15th.

The evening’s other game saw Coalville Town move above Rushall Olympic into fourth place, 11 points adrift of leaders Tamworth but with six games in hand, after beating Hitchin Town 5-1 at the Mander Cruickshank Solicitors Stadium. A crowd of 451 saw the home side in fine form, taking an early 6th-minute lead when Tim Berridge’s assist allowed Tom McGlinchey to beat Charlie Horlock. The Hitchin `keeper then saved well from Ash Chambers and Berridge but was beaten again in the 26th minute when McGlinchey’s shot went in off a post. And McGlinchey was in the action again 10 minutes later when he was brought down in the box and Eliot Putman converted the resulting penalty to make it 3-0. However, Hitchin came close twice to reducing the deficit before the break with keeper Paul White saving well from Ashley Hay and Josh Coldicott-Stevens. Seven minutes into the second half, Coalville made the points safe when Berridge got his name on the scoresheet. And on 72 minutes, Adam Stevens` side made it a nap hand when Luke Shaw finished off a lovely move involving several players.Hitchin did manage to spoil White’s clean sheet hopes when he netted a consolation goal 10 minutes from time.
