Errat-Thompson limps off and is replaced by Jack Thomas. Pity -  Declan was playing well.  Ilkeston hit back but Hallam is too slow.     Hednesford are having their best spell now.        2-2    74 mins

Good chance for Hallam but he fires wide. Yellow card for Dixon i think. Hallam fires into side netting after woodwork by O'Malley. Dixon fires over from 6 yards.        2-2    80 mins

Tue 28th Feb 2023
Southern League Premier Central
Hednesford Town  2  Ilkeston Town  2
Any lingering hopes of getting into the playoffs ended in frustration as Ilkeston failed to beat relegation bound Hednesford. Ilkeston totally dominated the first half but fell behind when the Pitmen took their only chance. The Robins then appeared to have put things right after going ahead on the hour but Hednesford came back to grab a point as Ilkeston failed to convert a series of chances.
Two early opportunities fell to Leroy Lita when he broke free then Connor Dixon’s shot was blocked by a defender. A Kieran Fenton header from Mason O’Malley’s cross was just wide before Hednesford’s first corner brought a save from Callum Hiddleston. Jordan Hallam had a close range chance when Lita flicked on Joe Wilson’s cross but keeper Luke Jackson did well to drop on the ball on his goal line. Hednesford were content to defend in numbers and their plan came to fruition when Jordan Graham scored following a counter attack on 39 minutes.
A strong start to the second half saw Lita equalise on 52 minutes. Declan Errat-Thompson then nearly caught out Jackson but his 30 yard effort was just too high. O’Malley was foiled by a great defensive block but on 60 minutes a Fenton header from Wilson’s corner put Ilkeston ahead. An Errat-Thomson shot was deflected over the bar then Hallam’s shot slammed against the post as Ilkeston pushed for a third goal. But they were hit by a sucker punch equaliser when Danny Glover took his chance well with 15 minutes left. Hednesford were then to have their best spell of the game as both teams tried to win it. Hallam saw a shot deflected wide then on 90 minutes Ilkeston missed a golden chance when Jack Thomas with the goal at his mercy elected to pass and the opportunity was gone.

Important Points for Relegation Battlers
Tuesday’s three games in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central turned out to be good for the relegation battlers.

Stratford Town moved up to fourth-bottom spot after winning 1-0 at the Victoria Ground against Bromsgrove Sporting, Alvechurch are now 16th after beating Basford United 2-1 at Lye Meadow and second-bottom Hednesford Town picked up a point from a 2-2 draw at the Race Stadium against a now seventh-placed Ilkeston Town

.In front of a crowd of 616, Stratford gained a crucial win against the Rouslers, who are 13th in the table. What turned out to be the Bards` winner arrived 3 minutes into the second half when Paul McCone headed in a corner.

Not far away at Lye Meadow, Alvechurch broke the deadlock against their Nottinghamshire visitors right on the stroke of half-time with a goal from skipper and defender Ash Carter. Then, just shy of the hour-mark, Ian Long’s men doubled their advantage when another defender, Harry Williams, headed home. Basford reduced the deficit with 6 minutes remaining with a goal from the returning Revarnelle James, but Church held firm for three vital points which lifts them five points clear of Stratford with three games in hand.

Hednesford came up against an in-form Ilkeston side but very much held their own.Indeed, it was the Pitmen who took a 38th minute lead when a fine run and pass from Chay Tilt was finished off by Jordan Graham. But 6 minutes into the second half, Leroy Lita, who left Hednesford to join the Robins last month and who had looked dangerous all evening, pulled his side back on level terms. And just 7 minutes later, the visitors were in front, thanks to a Kieren Fenton header. On 70 minutes, seconds after Jordan Hallam had struck a post for Ilkeston, the Pitmen equalised through player-manager Danny Glover. And his side held on to earn a point and, although Hednesford need wins to get away from the drop zone, it was a useful draw against a Robins side who still harbour hopes of making the top five.

Sounds entertaining. Effectively season over which is a shame

On a positive note though gives time to rebuild, work out which players they want / don’t want and get them tied down early

For me clean sheets need to return. Shipping too many goals. You’ll win nothing by conceding at the likes of Hednesford, Needham Market etc

Agree , re group and get the players who want to play plus not injury prone . Hasn't helped with so many in's and out's , injuries and suspensions .
Let's do the best we can till the end of the season hopefully on a high .

Re: Tue 28th Feb '23 : Hednesford v Ilkeston : ko 7 45 pm

A draw against a poor Hednesford side was not a good result. We dominated the game, missed a number of chances and gave away two soft goals.

Redditch and Stourbridge look set to move above us and push us down to 9th (just above mid table). This is a far cry from pre-season expectations and is mainly due to the number of drawn games.

Our record to date of only 12 wins from 32 matches is nowhere near good enough to produce a playoff challenge but hopefully we have learned enough in a new league to do better next season.

Recruitment before the season started turned out to be poor so we didn’t get off to good start. Since then there has been no consistency probably due to a massive turnover of players meaning that we’ve never had a settled side.

It could be said that we are five games unbeaten but it could also be that we have only won three of our last eleven matches.

Our last eleven matches have resulted in 3 wins 6 draws and 2 defeats. It's the draws that are holding us back.

Hednesford fight back to earn a point

SPL Premier Central
Hednesford Town 2 (Graham 38, Glover 70)  Ilkeston Town 2  (Lita 51, Fenton 59)

We had to make do with a point on the road on Tuesday night as struggling Hednesford battled back to earn a 2-2 draw. Despite dominating possession in a first-half of few clear cut chances, we couldn’t make a break through with Leroy Lita and Kieran Fenton both going close. And we’d pay just before half-time as Hednesford took the lead, Jordan Graham sliding in to finish from close range after a left-wing cross found him six yards out.
The second-half saw us come out strongly and after Jordan Hallam saw a shot deflected wide, Lita was then sent clear on 51 minutes and he finished well against his former club to make it eight goals in eight games since arriving at Ilkeston. Dec Eratt-Thompson’s looping volley was then just to high as we tried to turn the screw, and the lead came on 59 minutes when Joe Wilson’s left-wing corner found Fenton eight yards out and his downward header beat keeper Luke Jackson and nestled in the corner of the net.
Hallam went close again when his effort across goal struck the foot of the post, and sure enough the hosts would make us pay as sub Danny Glover benefited when a cross from the right wasn’t cleared as he controlled and fired into the corner. Hallam twice saw shots deflected wide as we continued to put pressure on, but despite some promising attacks late on we couldn’t find the killer touch and ultimately had to make do with a point.
We return to action on Saturday with a trip to Bromsgrove Sporting.
Hednesford: Jackson, Yeomans, Morley, Agustien (Asomugha 46), Patterson, Portman (McQuilkin 88), Tilt, Parker, Graham (Glover 58), Brogan, Thorley Not used: Hartley, Williams
Ilkeston: Hiddlestone, Wilson, Wilder, Eratt-Thompson (Thomas 71), Delap, Fenton, Campbell (Woakes 82), Dixon, Lita, Hallam (Patterson 82), O’Malley Not used: Hilton, Woodward

What the bloody hell was jack thomas doing in the last minute.
I know we are short of players but reme Campbell has been bloody awful last couple of games. Play bello or hilton at right back and put joe wilson at right wing.

Above and beyond from Zane again Tuesday night. In the second half, as at Coalville, 30 or 40 of their fans (mostly older kids) made their way down the side of the ground and came towards us standing behind the goal. Interrupting his watching of the game he went to find the chief Hednesford steward, explained the situation to him (in no uncertain terms!) and reminded him of the Stewards duty of care to both sets of fans. The Stewards quickly diffused the situation and the Hednesford fans made their way back to their own end of the ground. Zane also made sure that the gate behind our goal was open so that we could quickly jump on to the bus at the end of the game. Top man.

Its about F-cking time the league got this sorted with the younger element enticing the opposing fans especially when they walk all around the ground to it . Makes my blood boil especially when you say this to the stewards in some grounds and you get an answer " they are only kids " .
As secretary of the supporters group i am going to bring this up at our next meeting , as its beyond the joke now . We have had serious injuries to our fans in the past , i was one of them at Chasetown. . It should be made clear from the league to all clubs , stewards shouldnt  let this go on any more.
