Re: Sat 22nd April 2023 - Hitchin Town v Ilkeston Town - ko 3pm

.
I was critical of the team performance in my WhiteBall updates but on reflection and to be fair to the players, they did their best. Ollie was not 100% fit but played because he had to. Four of our players, Woodward, Kozluk, Hilton and Patterson were not used to playing at this level. So playing against an in-form team with the confidence from three straight wins behind them was always going to be difficult. Sure they made mistakes but that was only to be expected. Woodward of course had an excellent game in goal and a Hitchin supporter next to me was very impressed with Patterson. Hilton and Kozluk certainly didn't disgrace themselves and showed some good touches.
There was a moment right in front of me when Tom Hilton showed a touch of magic when his movement left his opponent for dead and drew appreciative gasps from many Hitchin fans.
My Ilkeston MOTM had to be Harvey Woodward closely followed by Henri Wilder.

Yes it was embarrassing to have a bare eleven players. When I gave our team to the match referee he said "Your subs have not printed out" .
But it was even more embarrassing when two of our supporters stopped the game.
