Chettle Returns to Boro

Callum Chettle has signed for Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Nuneaton Borough - seven years since he left to join Peterborough United in the Football League.  



Callum Chettle The 26-year-old midfielder returns to Boro from league rivals Mickleover, where he had been since late May 2022 after arriving from Basford United. He had joined Basford in May 2019 from Vanarama National League North side Alfreton Town, where he had been since July 2018 after arriving from Peterborough United. He came through the youth ranks at Nottingham Forest before joining Ilkeston FC in 2012, when he was just 15 - becoming Ilkeston’s youngest ever player at just 16. The move to Nuneaton followed in July 2015, making 25 appearances, scoring 2 goals. A string of stand-out performances during his time with Boro saw him soon made his step up into the Football League, joining Peterborough in January 2016 on a two-year deal. First team opportunities were limited during his time with Posh, making just 22 appearances across 2016 to 2018. However, in January 2018, he was loaned to AFC Fylde where he completed the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign. The son of former Nottingham Forest defender Steve Chettle, he spent the latter part of the 2018/19 season on loan at Boston United.
Nuneaton manager Jimmy Ginnelly told his club’s website: “I’m over the moon to convince one of our ex-players to come and sign for us again at the First Class Safety Stadium. He’s a very good footballing midfielder, who loves to pass the ball about and link everything up with the forwards and the wide men. He’s very fit and combative and certainly has that sparkle in his eye when he gets in and around the penalty area. Callum has a great attitude towards football and he’s a great lad to work with.
”More good news for Ginnelly and Nuneaton supporters was the news that both Camron McWilliams and Kane Richards had committed to the club for the 2023/24 campaign.
Twenty-one-year old right-back Williams began his career at Northampton Town and also played for Cardiff City under-21s, before signing for Boro in December 2021 from St Ives Town.Ginnelly said: "What a player! It was a no brainer to retain him. He can play in numerous positions and, when fit, never lets us down. This season's objective is to keep him fit and I'm sure he's going to be a thorn in the opposition's half. When he goes forward, he's unstoppable! He's still learning and I have no doubt that he's got a bright future in the Football League, when he gets a full season under his belt. Andy and I can't wait to work with him again this coming season. Hopefully, we can help him get his dream move to that big Football League.
"Richards originally signed for Nuneaton from Basford in June 2022, where he played with Callum Chettle.He began his career with a scholarship at Derby County and then played for Ilkeston Town, Chester FC in the National League, Dover Athletic and Basford.
Ginnelly said: "Once we'd finished the season, Kane said he'd loved his first season with us and wanted to help us get promoted next season. Kane's driving runs in behind the opposition's final third was one of his main assets. He got us plenty of penalties and edge of the box free-kicks, which is one of our strengths. Kane popped up with his fair share of important goals in big games too!
“He's an honest kid, when you talk to him, and that's what we're trying to build here at Nuneaton. When we recruit, we want no high-maintenance characters around the club. We want high-performance lads, and that's something we pride ourselves in doing when we sit down with a player. Kane’s definitely one of those boys!"
