We need to be much better in the second half if we are to get anything from this game. Ilkeston team are late coming out. Bradford were out five minutes ago. Finally they appear.

Nothing went right for Ilkeston as they slipped to a second defeat. The team performance bore no resemblance to the way they had played in their previous four matches.
Ilkeston had an early chance when debutant Declan Howe broke clear but he couldn’t find Jack Tolley with his pass. At the other end, a Bradford move ended with Luke Cox clearing off the line. A Jordan Hallam effort was deflected wide then Park Avenue went ahead with a fine finish from the edge of the area by Mason O’Malley on 24 minutes. Two minutes later it was 1-1 when Jamie Walker scored following a corner. Unruffled by the leveller Bradford pressed forward and a flying header was only just off target. On 36 minutes the hosts were very fortunate to get away with a foul on Declan Eratt-Thompson in the penalty area overlooked by the referee. Bradford went straight down the other end and scored through Will Longbottom. Hallam had an opportunity to pull Ilkeston level but his shot was deflected wide by a defender. If Ilkeston felt a little unlucky, worse was to come when Jamie Spencer made it 3-1 in first half added time. The Robins made a more determined start to the second half and Howe found the net but was given fractionally offside. A mistake by Luke Cox nearly gave Bradford a fourth goal then the hosts did score through Longbottom. So after their promising start Ilkeston had fallen further behind and Bradford could have made it five when Harrison Hopper’s shot flew the wrong side of the post. Ilkeston tried to rally but it was not their day. A Ross Barrows grass cutter was just wide and Howe couldn’t quite got his head onto a cross with the goal gaping but Bradford ran out convincing winners.

It was a miserable day for supporters with most players having an off day. Debutant Declan Howe tried hard but it was obvious that he was a new man in this team. Even the normally immaculate Kieran Fenton was below par. Every player was guilty of misplacing passes and we created very few opportunities. How can we go from looking so good against Workington to how we played yesterday? We obviously caught Bradford on one of their better days and the goals went in for them at good times ie. straight after we had a clear penalty denied, just before half time and when we had our best spell at the start of the second half. At 1-3 down I thought we might recover but the fourth goal killed us off.
Gary Hayward has bit of work to do.
Hopefully this was just a blip and we return to form and winning ways against Whitby.
