For the regulars travelling this Saturday, Lancaster is probably a new ground to visit so here are a few images.

.
The next two matches which come in quick succession will be another real test; - Second placed Lancaster on Saturday followed on Tuesday night by favourites to win the league, Macclesfield. We will do well to get anything at all from these two but if we can get a point at Lancaster then maybe we can do the same against Macclesfield. With the Silkmen coming on Tuesday night they probably won’t have the same level of travelling support as they would have had for a Saturday fixture. Macclesfield have lost two of their three away matches so far, the two defeats being at Lancaster and FC United.
I would be very happy with two draws. More than that would be a massive bonus. One match at a time though. There’s no reason why we can’t go to Lancaster and get a result. We’ve not been at our best for a while but that doesn’t mean we can’t spring a surprise. Expectation is less at away matches so the players can play with less pressure. We need a Basford performance at the back and a bit of freedom up front for Walker and Goodson.

Re: Sat 23 Sep 23 : Lancaster City v Ilkeston Town : KO 3pm

The last 2 seasons Lancaster have finished mid table

2022-23 finished 11th  -   P42. W15, D13, L14, F51, A51,  Pts 58
2021-22 finished 11th. -   P42, W17,  D5,   L20, F44, A51,  Pts 56

This season they have made a much better start with 14 points from their first 7 matches whereas last season they had only 7 points from their first 7 matches.

Lancaster City home attendances are not high . Last seasons average gate was 388 (not much more than Basford whose average gate was 314)
The season before (2021-22) City’s the average home gate was only 310.

It looks like Lancaster offer free admission to kids from selected schools on particular match days. This Saturday is the turn of The Loyne Specialist School

All the matches in this league are tough and tomorrow's game is a really tough one. We probably won't have the level of support that we usually have due to the distance of travel but the regulars on the Supporters Group bus will be there as usual.

Here are tomorrow's fixtures in our league:
Sat 23 September 2023
Bamber Bridge v Morpeth
Bradford PA v Workington
FC United v Whitby
Gainsborough v Atherton
Guiseley v Ashton
Hyde v Basford
Lancaster v Ilkeston
Macclesfield v Stafford
Marske v Marine
Matlock v Warrington
Radcliffe v Worksop

My two matches of the day are Radcliffe v Worksop and Matlock v Warrington Rylands.
I think Worksop could end Radcliffe's 100% start and I expect Matlock to win against 3rd placed Warrington Rylands
Finally, Good luck to Basford's new manager, James Jepson at Hyde.

One result doesn't define a season but I think tomorrow's match at the Giant Axe will be an indicator of whether we are likely to be a top half team or not. A good performance (regardless of the result) at high flying Lancaster gives me hope of a decent season to come.

Despite last week's win at Basford we haven't hit the form we displayed against Gainsborough and Workington. We didn't play badly against FC United but the defeats against Bradford, Whitby and Worksop seriously dented confidence.

So four wins and four defeats leaves us not knowing what lies ahead. 12 points from 8 matches so far is 1.5 points per match. If we were able to maintain that over 42 matches we would finish with 63 points and comfortably in the top half.

By the end of September we will have played eleven matches so we should have a good idea of how we stand. Next Tuesday we're home to Macclesfield then on Saturday it's Bamber Bridge at home. Every match is a tough one.

Five points from the next three matches would be very nice. Six points would be even better.

Ilkeston Town
The Robins have experienced a mixed start to the new campaign after winning four and losing four games this season. This start has the Robins well placed in seventh, and just outside the play-off positions. Last time out for Ian Deakin and his side was a one goal to nil victory over Basford United. A 62nd minute strike from the returning Zak Goodson secured the victory in Nottinghamshire. After being founded in 2017, the Robins earned a seventh place finish in the Southern League Premier Division. This resulted in the side being transferred to the Northern Premier League Premier Division. The Robins are without their top goal scorer last season, Leroy Lita. Lita spent one year in Derbyshire where he scored 16 goals in 18 appearances. The former Reading, Middlesbrough and Brighton and Hove Albion striker now spends his playing days with Nuneaton Borough.

Lancaster City
The Dolly Blues continue their fine form heading into tomorrows fixture after dispatching Marske United four goals to one in the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round. A first half hat-trick from Simon Grand and a bullet header from Andrew Teague resulted in Lancaster City’s unbeaten run stretching to eight games. The draw for the third qualifying round took place earlier in the week and Lancaster City will prepare to face league opponents Ashton United at the Giant Axe.
Mark Fell is without some key players for the fixture as Christian Sloan, Jamie Mellen and Nic Evangelinos recover from their injuries. There could also be a possible return for Jacob Holland-Wilkinson who has also spent some time on the sidelines. This is the first meeting between the Dolly Blues and the Robins under the current guise.

We're approaching kick-off. It's cloudy and cool but no rain so far.
it's an old type ground with a grass pitch which was mown earlier.
City are in blue and white striped shirts and blue shorts. Ilkeston are in red.

Good turn bt Waite and he wins a free kick. The free kick is cleared by City. City chance for Lawson but he's offside.  Walker shot diverted for a corner.      It's a fast start.    0-0.   8 mins

Ilkeston free kick into the box is cleared.   Great saving tackle by Wilder at the other end.  Terrific effort by Cox is just too high.    Parkers shot hits a City dedfender on the line
GOAL.   Jamie Walker.      1-0.        15 mins.

Re: Sat 23 Sep 23 : Lancaster City v Ilkeston Town : KO 3pm

Wilder gets a talking to for complaining. This ref is ultra strict.  Goodson appears to be tripped in area but nothing given.
What a miss by City.    Player intercepts a back pass, goes past Yates then puts the ball into the near side netting.

GOAL.      we've scored again     Jamie Walker.      2-0.    34 mins
