Rylands break away but Yates saves bravely.  Ilkeston chance but the cross is too high

It's finished and we lose 0-1 .

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

Did we deserve to lose ? No. Did we deserve win . No
We huffed and puffed and after a great save by our keeper they had time to put the ball in the net .
Motm for was our keeper I thought .
I will say this though if you can't be bothered to chase back after being tackled why play .

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

.
I usually don't comment immediately after a game until I've had time to re-consider, but right now I agree with Kev. I heard Deaks say that he thought we played well and matched Warrington but lost because we didn't take our chances.
There were very few chances created by either team so it was a poor game to watch. The game lacked excitement as defences remained on top throughout. Tyrell Waite had the best chance of the game just before half time. If he had taken that chance it might have been different.
It's not hard to understand how Warrington have only conceded 13 goals in 16 matches.

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

I don't know how I fell after this match.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that we are missing a 20 goal a season centre forward or a centre forward which can hold onto the ball.

We all knew that it was going to be hard this season and I still think we are good enough to stop up.

I think we have 2 parts of the back bone in a great goalkeeper and two centre halfs but our centre mids and forward are missing.

Time to dust ourselves down and hopefully gain some more points on the road next week at morpeth.

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

.

I was disappointed because in my opinion this was a winnable game if only we had a goalscorer. As a spectacle that was the worst game of the season with the least number of chances created. Warrington were so negative it's no wonder they only have a handful of fans watching them play away from home but they got the win due to our inability to score.
We now have a lot of young players in the side and hopefully we'll get better given time but for now we're desperate for someone who can put the ball in the net like Jordi Hallam and Declan Howe.

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

.Sat 11 November 2023
Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town  0  Warrington Rylands  1
If ever a game looked like a stalemate, this was one, but Warrington’s late goal gave them the points. Defences remained on top throughout with neither side assuming control. Second in the league Warrington have only conceded 13 goal in 16 games and they showed why with a defensive minded display then stole the points.
Rylands started the stronger and dominated the ball but without threatening until the 12th minute when Matt Yates was tested for the first time. Ilkeston’s first real opportunity took 30 minutes when Tyrell Waite’s shot on the turn was just too high. Just before half time Ilkeston should have gone ahead when Declan Eratt-Thompson’s cross fell to Waite who fired over from six yards.
Ilkeston made the better start after the interval and Jamie Walker had an effort blocked by a Rylands defender following Larell King’s long throw-in into the box. Warrington seemed content to take a point and were creating little going forward but neither were Ilkeston who made three attacking substitutions in a bid to break the deadlock. In the end though, it was Warrington who grabbed the winner in the 81st minute. It followed a good parry by Yates from Ben Hough’s deflected shot but when the ball ran loose Adama Sidibeh reacted quickest to stab the ball into the net from close range. Ilkeston pushed for a leveller but the Rylands defence was not to be breached and Ilkeston nearly conceded a second from a counter attack but were rescued by Yates. With a couple of minutes remaining King found Zak Goodson who steered his shot wide. Ilkeston had one final chance from a cross into the box by Goodson but it was too high for Ben Starkie and the game was lost. Star performer was the young bugler who played the last post to perfection before kickoff.

Warrington's Match Report

Ilkeston 0-1 Rylands
Tony Bennett.  12 Nov

Blues Bounce Back
An 81st minute strike by Adama Sidibeh separated Warrington Rylands and Ilkeston Town at the New Manor Ground. Surrendering a 13 game unbeaten run last weekend, Rylands maintained second place in the NPL Premier Division as they extended their seasonal unbeaten away record to 9 games with a 1-0 win.
The decisive moment arrived when Ben Hough diverted a Javid Swaby-Neavin cross towards goal; Ilkeston goalkeeper Matt Yates palmed the ball into the path of Sidibeh who slotted it into the net from six yards.
A minute after entering the action as a 72nd minute substitute Sidibeh had smashed the ball into the roof of Ilkeston’s net, however Clive Smith who delivered the cross had already been flagged off side.
Yates was the busier of the two goalkeepers in a game which until Sidibeh’s intervention looked to be heading for a goal less draw.
The Ilkeston custodian reacted to quickly to smoother a Joe Piggott shot at point blank range in the opening minutes whilst he also field shots from outside the box from James Neild and Swaby-Neavin.The home side’s main attacking threat came from the long throws of Llarell King which caused confusion in the Rylands penalty area leading to Tyrell Waite twice shooting over the bar.
The second half started with Waite stabbing a shot wide of the target after Jaime Walker had a shot blocked after another long throw. Yates did well to hold onto a Bakkor volley, while on the hour mark the Rylands drove a free kick from 25 yards just over the bar. Two minutes after Sidibeh’s goal, Mo Touray intercepted a clearance, spotting Yates out of position he shot from the centre circle, with the keeper scrambling to get back the ball went wide. With a couple of minutes remaining an Ilkeston cross found King unmarked at the far post, he knocked the ball down to Zack Goodson who steered his shot wide. With five minutes stoppage time added on Warrington Rylands controlled the final stages to deservedly claim the three points.
ILKESTON – Yates, King, Parker, Minkey, Perch, Cox, Waite, T Marshall, A Marshall (Starkie), Eratt-Thompson (Goodson), Walker (Laughlin). Subs not used Wilder, Brandy.
RYLANDS – Pilling, Smith, Swaby-Neavin, Butler (Hough), Regan, Furman Thiam (Hardcastle), Neild, Piggott (Sidibeh), Touray, Bakkor . Subs not used Uche, German
Attendance 593
Referee Jake Allsop

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

Maybe in a minority, but I like the progress Deaks and his team are making. They've been here, what, 10 games, and they've instilled discipline and a terrific work ethic. The best progress they've made is in sorting the defence out. I think we've got a solid defence in Yates, King, Perch, Cox, and Parker. King at right-back was my MoM for the second game running; he looks a good prospect. Perch is a class act and he and Cox are forming a good centre-back pairing, and Parker looks solid at left-back. Cox is 21, King is 21, Parker is 22, and Yates is 24, and these players will only get better and better.

Yes, the front 6 needs a lot more work. At the moment there's no flowing football, no cohesion, no understanding, and we're really struggling to create meaningful chances (although how Waite managed to blast over from 2 yards out beggars belief). If you put Johnny Margetts up front wouldn't he be feeding on scraps, just like Waite and Alex Marshall are doing? Cohesion and understanding take time, and the Marshalls and Minkley have only played a handful of games for us between them. I think we've just got to give the players a chance to build up some game time together, and then we'll find out if they're good enough or not.

Deaks said it would be a bumpy road and we've already had some real ups and downs. Lancaster was a real high and Hyde was a horror show. On Saturday we more than matched the team second in the league and had glorious chances to score 2 goals and win the game. There's no shortcuts and no quick fix. I think we've just got to be patient.

Having said what I've said about our defence, I don't think they'll be too happy about Warrington's winning goal ...

Re: Sat 11th November 2023 : Ilkeston v Warrington Rylands : ko 3pm

I agree, defensively we now look okay. Larell King looks a quality acquisition at full back with the added bonus of his long throw. The problem is that we have no threat up front. Against Warrington Rylands we only created a few chances and we didn't take them. Deaks has disposed of our high earning players which I'm okay with but we desperately need a striker or we'll slide down the table. You're right we need to be patient while the new players settle in. We’ve played against all of the current top five (Radcliffe, Worksop.Warrington, Hyde and Macclesfield) and we’ve only picked up one point so a position in the playoffs seems highly unlikely. After all of the changes in personnel the aim has to be that we stabilise and stay mid table.

Personally and i think i can talk for a lot of fans here is that i never expected to be in the top ten this season , i will be happy with a mid table finish. This club means more to me to alive and running rather going for the promotion each season as it cant and wont happen most seasons. Just give me a sustainable club that we can all enjoy for years to come.  Yeah a club we can enjoy with some good cup runs would be great ....
