Waite fires over after being fed by King.  That's better. Great chance for Morpeth but the shot is wide

Good Ilkeston attack is scrambled away by Morpeth.  Then super save by Yates keeps fit 0-1. Ilkeston free kick on corner of box but it's wasted.  It's a decent start by Ilkeston.      0-1.     53 mins

Re: Sat 18th Nov 23 : Morpeth v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

.
Sat 18 November 2023
Northern Premier League
Morpeth Town  2  Ilkeston Town 1
Ilkeston’s long journey to Northumberland was without reward despite a fighting second half effort which saw them hit the post then have a goal disallowed.
After Sam Hodgson and Will Jankins had put chances over the bar for the hosts, Ilkeston had a genuine  opportunity to go ahead on 22 minutes when Zak Goodson’s incisive pass put Tyrell Waite clear and one on one with Morpeth’s former Ilkeston keeper Dan Lowson. Waite’s effort as he cut in from wide left got past Lowson who had narrowed the angle and got touch but a defender got back to hook the ball clear. Morpeth immediately replied with Christopher Reid firing over from Liam Noble’s cross. Then on 29 minutes Morpeth were ahead through Hodgson who nodded home from Jack Foalie’s cross. The goal signalled a period of Morpeth dominance and just before half time Matt Yates brilliantly pushed Andrew Johnson’s effort round the post as the hosts looked to double their lead.
After presumably an interval ear bashing from manager Ian Deakin, Ilkeston came out with much more urgency. Larell King’s forward run created an early chance for Waite whose effort was just too high. As Ilkeston pushed forward Yates came to the rescue with a super save to deny Ryan Donaldson. Despite Ilkeston’s strong start, Morpeth doubled their lead from a Hodgson penalty after a somewhat harsh handball decision. Undeterred Ilkeston resumed attacking intent and saw L’Varn Brandy make a great run past a couple of defenders before having his shot diverted. On 71 minutes Ilkeston’s efforts were rewarded when Goodson was in the right place to pull a goal back. Five minutes later Ilkeston thought they had equalised when first the post was struck by Brandy then Waite headed into the net only to see the linesman flag raised for offside. Ilkeston’s push for an equaliser almost resulted in Morpeth scoring on the counter but Yates was equal to Noble’s effort. Finally, Morpeth were relieved to see an Ilkeston penalty appeal waved away before time was called.

Re: Sat 18th Nov 23 : Morpeth v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

Plenty of reaction from supporters regarding Saturday’s match at Morpeth on Facebook. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and sometimes things are said in the heat of the moment both during matches from pitch side and afterwards on Facebook.
Be aware that the management and players hear and read every word.
The club has to work within a budget. We are all passionate and want to win but as Jamie Hobson said  “WE ARE ILSON..Not friggin Man U..shurr-up..whingin', enjoy wot we got.”

Re: Sat 18th Nov 23 : Morpeth v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

.
After each home match Morpeth do a presentation in the clubhouse to the man of the match for both teams. Larell King was chosen for Ilkeston.  I wouldn't disagree with that but I also though Declan Eratt-Thompson was outstanding in the second half.

Also after the match I spoke to the Morpeth manager and I asked him about their 7-0 defeat at Worksop. His reply was  "Let's say we don't travel well on a Tuesday night." Then he reminded me that because of their isolated location, every away game for them is a long trip.

Highlights from the game ...

https://youtu.be/RXP4hHJDBVQ?si=KGGn3MCZWSKxTDd5

Morpeth had good chances to score more goals and you have to say they were deserved winners. They show the chance Tyrell Waite missed in the second half but he had an even better one in the first half which would have put us 1-0 up; might have changed the complexion of the game, who knows. The lad's low on confidence at the moment so what do you do, persevere with him or give him a break? Brandy turned the game around when he came on. I'd try this front six tomorrow ...

      Eratt-Thompson   Dixon
                     Walker
Goodson    Alex Marshall    Brandy

Re: Sat 18th Nov 23 : Morpeth v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

Having read some of the posts from so called Ilkeston fans on Facebook it looks like Deaks honeymoon period might be over. In typical Ilson fashion they hint that it might e time for a change. However patience has never be been a virtue at the NMG. Personally I think the club need some stability and must trust Isn Deakin and his staff to turn the teams fortunes around. In reality the club have had three different teams this season Jamie Wards, Gary Haywood and now Deaks. I think Matchman is right some posters on social media must either wait till their emotions have settled or they have sobered up before they go public on Facebook or  X  formally  known as Twitter!

Re: Sat 18th Nov 23 : Morpeth v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

From afar and not having seen a game - I still cannot believe the manager's to blame already... Think on.  He's had limited time. He was also the one who most folk (based on what I see here) seemed to want back. Added to that, from the outside, his departure from Long Eaton seemed a bit contrived...

Think back to Matchmans' expectations for this season! He sees every game. I think it was consolidate, if possible?... My reading was that he expected the NPL to be a much harder league...? (Not sure of that myself. The big club 'feeder' and football fanbase is stronger  in different regions. This equates to the available 'player pool' - but, clearly, the wise governance of a club - and realistic budgets and targets - remain a key factor too.

I'm looking from afar and thinking safe mid-table - with a play-off place still possible...? There again, I'm always the optimist when it comes to Ilson!
