Re: Tue 28 Nov 23 : Ilkeston v Guiseley : Ko 7 45pm

Guiseley shot is just too high. Parker cross lands on the net over the bar.
4 minutes added time.      1-3

That caps a really bad night.  And now we have handbags.

This is the best excitement of the night
Alex gets a yellow card and so does a Guiseley player.

The ref ends the game.

We are well beaten by a far better side.

Re: Tue 28 Nov 23 : Ilkeston v Guiseley : Ko 7 45pm

That was a really disappointing performance. Once Guiseley equalised they took control and quickly added another two goals with ease. Once behind we were beaten because we couldn’t create anything going forward and I can’t remember Battersby having to make a save all night. So a depressing night for the 300 odd supporters who braved the cold and a realisation that we could be in for a difficult second half of the season and a lower half of the table  finish.

Prior to tonight, i thought the defence was pretty much sound but tonight Guiseley's attack made us look very vulnerable. Luke Cox's absence through suspension could have been the reason. Up front we had nothing. The substitutions gave us a bit of hope but in truth we never looked like scoring. Declan and Connor tried hard to get things going but some of our players had a bad night.

Re: Tue 28 Nov 23 : Ilkeston v Guiseley : Ko 7 45pm

As an outsider looking in a sense of perspective is needed here. The club has come a long way in a short period of time

No way on this earth were you getting promotion this season. Not a chance. So you’ve a mid table squad paying mid table wages

They’re the facts. So offloading some big earners makes sense if that is your aspiration for the season. Have a good look at the league then work out who you need next season and how much they’ll cost

It’s a really good league. The likes of Guiseley are established in it. Losing to them is no disgrace but a sense of perspective and a long term plan are needed IMO

Re: Tue 28 Nov 23 : Ilkeston v Guiseley : Ko 7 45pm

Yep, spot on Dick and John.

That was another chastening experience last night. As has happened in other games, we were like a Step 4 team playing against a Step 3 team. Did we even have one shot on goal in the whole game? This is a tough league and there are some good teams in the top 10. Not too worried about us sliding too far down the league just yet, but you have to say our current team/squad are probably a bottom third of the league team. Very little wrong with the application and effort last night, it was just that they had better players than us.

I’m all for being patient and I applaud Deaks for giving the current players time to settle and gel together, because I think we have been guilty of jettisoning players too quickly (wouldn’t Declan Howe be a good example, with 9 goals already for Gainsborough?), but I have to say my patience is being stretched with Tyrell Waite. A likeable type, who always puts a shift in, but you can clearly see the lad’s struggling, and 1 goal in 11 games for a centre forward?

You’ve just got to hope that games like last night don’t affect the players confidence too much. I am a little concerned about Marine on Saturday. You just get a feeling that this season we’re going to be scrambling around for points to keep us out of trouble. You’d hope for a good haul of points from the next 4 home games – Marske, Matlock, FC United, and Basford.

Re: Tue 28 Nov 23 : Ilkeston v Guiseley : Ko 7 45pm

.
Tue 28 November 2023
Northern Premier League
Ilkeston  1  Guiseley  4
Three goals conceded in ten first half minutes put the game beyond Ilkeston and allowed their West Yorkshire opponents to record a convincing win.
Guiseley showed early intent when Tom Denton headed over but Ilkeston could have gone ahead on 8 minutes when keeper, Ollie Battersby was left stranded after Zak Goodson’s effort took a big deflection before landing on the roof of the net. Guiseley threatened down both wings and Matt Yates did well to save another Denton header. Then on 23 minutes Ilkeston went ahead when Reece Kendall headed into his own goal from L’Varn Brandy’s corner. Guiseley were stung into action and a purple patch saw them score three well worked goals. They levelled through a Aiden Walker header on 30 minutes then seven minutes later they were ahead when Liam Tongue finished off Kofi Moore’s excellent run and cross. Before Ilkeston could recover, it was 3-1. This time it was Denton who was in the right place to hammer home from another cross.
Guiseley remained in control up to and after the interval with Ilkeston unable to find a way back into the game but with 15 minutes left Ilkeston finally produced a a period of ascendancy which saw Declan Eratt-Thompson fire over the bar after a scramble close to Battersby’s goal line. Five minutes after that Guiseley had another escape when Brandy’s cross hit a defender and spun agonisingly wide. But to cap off a bad night for the Robins, Guiseley added a fourth goal in added time through a Tom Pratt header.

Goals from the game. One of the things that strikes you (and we've seen this before this season) is how many players Guiseley get into the box for the crosses coming in. It's a numbers game.
