Re: Sat 6th January 2024. : Ilkeston v FC United. : Ko 3pm

Brandy is causing all sorts of problems for FC.  Boyes fumbles the corner but gets away with it.
FC fans making a big effort to lift their team. FC header is just wide as they fight back. Alex gets booked for catching an opponent - rather harsh In my opinion.        1-0.    71mins

Ilkeston Town are currently 11th in the table if scores stay the same. However when Marske's removal is confirmed we could slip a few places!

Two late goals for Morpeth Town against Bradford PA means Ilkeston Town slip back to 12th in the table!

Re: Sat 6th January 2024. : Ilkeston v FC United. : Ko 3pm

Sat 6th January 2024
Northern premier League
Ilkeston Town 2  FC United of Manchester 0
Ilkeston returned to winning ways in style with second half goals by Tom Cursons and Connor Dixon in a closely fought match. It was Dixon who proved to be the difference playing a part in both goals which secured a much needed win and halted a three match losing run.
The first effort on goal was by Max Woodcock for FC United but it was high and wide. Ilkeston replied through L’Varn Brandy whose attempt was deflected wide, On 16 minutes a fine tackle by Sam Parker averted danger from an FC United counter attack then Liam Loughlan saw his effort from the edge of the area saved by Pat Boyes. Tom Marshall’s free kick was tipped over by Boyes and Jamie Walker’s shot was just wide. The visitors might have gone ahead on 26 minutes when Dontal Gabidon broke clear but as he was about to shoot he pulled up clutching his hamstring and his participation was over. Ilkeston then had a big chance when Cursons headed wide from Brandy’s cross. Loughlan’s cross was then met by Luke Cox’s head but Boyes turned it round the post. Just before half time Paul Ennis spotted Yates off his line but the Ilkeston keeper was able to get back in time to collect his ambitious lob.
FC United started the second half the stronger and Dan Lafferty’s header brought an early save from Yates but by the hour mark Ilkeston were in the ascendency and a fine effort by Brandy grazed the crossbar. Ilkeston’s pressure was rewarded on 65 minutes when a great run and cross by Dixon was turned home by Cursons. Dixon then almost added another but Boyes pushed his stinging drive round the post. FC United had an opportunity to level when Woodcock glanced wide from Ennis’s cross but on 76 minutes it was 2-0 when Dixon intercepted Lafferty’s back pass and swept the ball past Boyes. FC United then had nothing to lose and pushed bodies forward allowing Ilkeston to play on the break. In the final minutes Declan Eratt-Thompson capped a fine individual performance with a brilliant tackle to preserve the 2-0 scoreline and send the majority of the 1017 attendance home happy.

Re: Sat 6th January 2024. : Ilkeston v FC United. : Ko 3pm

.

We really needed that performance and win. It was a real mood changer. Another defeat would have been devastating especially as Basford and Gainsborough both won.
We have a tough match next Saturday at Worksop . Then we have two matches which could go a long way towards ensuring that we stay clear of the drop zone.
Sat 20th January  Basford (home)
Sat 27th January Stafford  (away)
