Marine's 3-0 win at FC United tonight extends their winning run to five matches. Marine are now second and are seven points clear of Macclesfield who are just outside of the playoff positions. Marine now have 15 wins and only Radcliffe have won more matches.
Saturday’s match should be a real cracker between two in form teams and hopefully another 1000 plus attendance. The club are anticipating this and are putting on extra catering facilities.

.
This league is very competitive and we’ve done really well to be mid-table considering all of the personnel changes made to reduce our wage bill. We’ve not taken many points off of the top teams but we have done really well against the other teams. The top 8 or 9 have been pretty consistent. The teams from mid table to above the bottom 5 are all capable of beating each other and taking points off the top teams. The current bottom three; Atherton, Stafford and Bradford just keep losing so look certain to be relegated with Marske.

Marine are a lot of peoples favourites to go up via the playoffs so Saturday’s match will show if we are good enough to even contemplate making a late challenge for a playoff spot. Realistically, we’re too many points adrift and only a win against Marine will keep the dream alive. But we’ve done far better than we expected before the season started. On a positive note we are now getting good gates and we are running at a sustainable level. If we can keep this team together then a playoff challenge next season is a possibility.

Red-Hot January Leaves Marine Dreaming Of Promotion

By James Gordon

Marine's impressive recent form continued as they made it six wins in a row with a commanding 3-0 victory at FC United of Manchester on Tuesday night. The Mariners, beaten heavily by fellow high-flyers Hyde United in their opening league game of 2024, have responded with a vengeance.  Tuesday's triumph at Broadhurst Park saw them rise to second in the Northern Premier League table, leapfrogging Warrington Rylands in the process. Owen Robinson broke the deadlock seven minutes after half-time before a quickfire double from top scorer Fin Sinclair-Smith made sure of the win with little under a quarter of the game to go. Neil Young's side have scored 22 goals during their recent purple patch, but with testing trips to Ilkeston Town and league leaders Radcliffe on the horizon, he has urged his players to maintain their current levels of focus. "It was a good, professional performance," he said after Tuesday's win."To come here in midweek after a tough game on Saturday, I thought the lads were superb from first minute to last. "I said to them at half-time that we went long too early and needed to make more passes. We did that in the second half, which allowed us to get further up the pitch and create lots of opportunities."We need to be a bit more clinical in the final third, but to come away from home in midweek to FC United - which is always a tough place to come - and win 3-0, I'm made up. "Overall, it was a good night and another good win. "It's all about building momentum. We need to keep going and keep that mindset."Marine are now nine points behind runaway leaders Radcliffe, who have three games in hand as they continue their charge towards the Northern Premier League title. The two teams meet on Saturday 17 February, in what is already looking to be a pivotal encounter in the race to reach the National League North.

Marine Football Club @MarineAFC
Due to insufficient numbers, we have cancelled this Saturday’s coach to Ilkeston Town. Anyone who has booked on will automatically receive a refund.

Very disappointing that Marine supporters don't want to come to Ilkeston

Poor show of support for a club second in the league and pushing for promotion.

Re: Sat 3rd Feb - Ilkeston v Marine - KO 3pm

.
It’s Matchday again and a chance to strengthen our late playoff challenge as we face 2nd in the table Marine. An Ilkeston win will show that our promotion push is serious.
You need to be there for this one.
Two other teams in the playoff challenge (Worksop and Ashton) play against each other and Guiseley go to league leaders Radcliffe so we have an opportunity to improve our position if we can get the three points.

Today’s matches:
Atherton v Morpeth
FC United v Gainsborough
Hyde v Workington
Ilkeston v Marine
Lancaster v Matlock
Macclesfield  v Bamber Bridge
Radcliffe v Guiseley
Warrington v Bradford.
Whitby v Basford
Worksop v Ashton

First effort is by Cursons but his shot goes wide after a great ball to him by Walker.  Grant gets a telling off after a foul on Yates.      0-0.      6 mins

Nothing from Marine attack so far and only the Cursons chance for ilkeston.  In other words defences are on top.  Spoke too soon.  Good effort by Sinclair-Smith for Marine but it's over the bar. At the other end  good save by Hutchinson.            0-0.    15 mins

Marine were rocking following Walkers shot but they've now recovered. Minkley booked for what looked a very trivial foul . The free kick was only just too high.      1-0.       35 mins

Gregson fires miles over after good pass by Sinclair -Smith. Brandy booked for not releasing the ball. Corner to Marine .  The corner comes over and  clips the far post and goes out.  That was close.   Great 30 yard dribble by Brandy.        1-0.     43 mins
