Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town 1 Hyde united 1
This was a good point for Ilkeston against one of the best footballing sides in the league. The Robins might have won the game near the end but a draw was a fair result after Hyde had much the better of the first half.
Hyde started impressively with some excellent quick passing moves and on 6 minutes Lewis Alessandra’s forced Matt Yates to tip his shot onto the bar. But it was Ilkeston who went ahead against the run of play after Jamie Walker was fouled in the area then scored the resulting penalty on 11 minutes. Hyde hit back immediately and Yates had to save from Shakeel Jones-Griffiths and Manasse Mampala before the equaliser came from Jack Redshaw on 16 minutes. It followed a clever corner kick routine involving several players and ended with Redshaw firing low into the corner of the net. On 25 minutes There were shouts for another Ilkeston penalty when Lindon Meikle was sent tumbling in the area but the offside flag had been raised. A superb Tom Marshall tackle rescued Ilkeston then just before half time Matthew Fearnley had a big chance to put Hyde ahead but fired wide.
Hyde were first out off the blocks for the second half and Redshaw forced Yates into an early save and a minute later Declan Eratt-Thompson had to clear off the line from Redshaw’s header. Soon after that Fearnley broke free but fired straight at Yates. Then came Ilkeston’s best spell. On 59 minutes a Hyde mistake at the back saw L’Varn Brandy break free before being brought down giving Tom Marshall a free kick opportunity from 30 yards. Marshall’s attempt looked good but flew just wide of the post. Marshall then had another chance when he got on the end of Eratt-Thompson’s corner but his header was just too high. Connor Dixon’s shot was deflected wide before Hyde had a chance from a free kick right on the edge of the area but Yates made the save. With ten minutes to go Ilkeston very nearly snatched the lead. Tom Cursons did exceptionally well to force his way into the area and create a chance for himself but his effort was parried by Hyde keeper Jordan Eastham and Meikle following up couldn’t quite get the finishing touch. It was then Hyde’s turn to go close as Yates produced a stunning save to thwart Josh Doherty and preserve a point.

Right at the end of the game, Hyde's goalkeeper tried to take a quick free kick. The ball hit an Ilkeston player and went into the net. The Ilkeston player wasn't 10 yards away but it was the keeper who chose to take the kick quickly. I think that it should have been a goal.
Being right at the death, It was an awkward moment for the official and I think he opted for the least contaversial outcome by ordering the free kick to be re-taken.

If a player had been less than the yards away on purpose could be booked . But if like you say the keeper tried to take the kick I am sure that could be a different matter .

Looking at Law 13 Free Kicks, it looks like it should have been given as a goal ...
If, when a free kick is taken, an opponent is closer to the ball than the required distance, the kick is retaken unless the advantage can be applied; but if a player takes a free kick quickly and an opponent who is less than 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball intercepts it, the referee allows play to continue. However, an opponent who deliberately prevents a free kick being taken quickly must be cautioned for delaying the restart of play.
If, when a free kick is taken, an attacking team player is less than 1 m (1 yd) from a ‘wall’ formed by three or more defending team players, an indirect free kick is awarded.
If, when a free kick is taken by the defending team inside its penalty area, any opponents are inside the penalty area because they did not have time to leave, the referee allows play to continue. If an opponent who is in the penalty area when the free kick is taken, or enters the penalty area before the ball is in play, touches or challenges for the ball before it is in play, the free kick is retaken.

There was no trouble with any Hyde supporters at our game but apparrently there was an incident involving a Hyde supporter at their away game at Whitby.
Hyde United FC Club Statement – Whitby Incident
March 7, 2024
It’s unfortunate that we have to issue a statement on the behaviour we expect of our supporters, both home and away, due to an incident at the Whitby game on February 24th.Overall our games pass without incident, and we acknowledge that we have a great following of core supporters, which is appreciated by the club and the First Team. However, we will not condone any actions that bring the Club into disrepute. We appreciate that supporters can get frustrated during a game for one reason or another, we all do, but allowing that frustration to manifest into actions that could end up with the Football Club being sanctioned by the FA is unacceptable.
The supporter concerned was identified by our own officials and backed up by way of images supplied to us by Whitby Town. All supporters should bear in mind that most football clubs have CCTV in and around the terraces, as we have at The Project Solar Stadium, and all games are filmed to provide footage to the NPL. So it’s likely, as in this case, an individual can be identified if they step out of line.We expect all our supporters to behave respectfully at all home and away games, and in a manner that they would expect to be treated.
