This week's midweek matches

.
There are just 3 matches to be played before the final Saturday of the season.

Tonight (Mon 22 Apr).         Matlock (17th) v Ashton (6th)

Tomorrow (Tue 23 Apr).      Bamber Bridge (15th) v Macclesfield (2nd)  and   Guiseley (9th) v Worksop (7th)

Important matches for Ashton and Worksop who  both have a chance of getting into the playoffs.
If Ashton win tonight at Matlock they are as good as in playoffs.

In the NPL East there are several local teams playing this week:
Monday       -   Liversedge (10th) v Grantham (20th)
Tuesday      -   Carlton (5th) v Dunston (3rd)   and    Pontefract (4th) v Belper (7th)
Wednesday -   Sheffield (11th) v Grantham (20th)
Thursday     -   Liversedge (10th) v Belper (7th)

Grantham are battling to avoid relegation while Carlton and Belper are trying to make the playoffs

Score updates to follow

Re: This week's midweek matches

Ashton will want three points at Matlock Town as they need four to be certain of a play off place. If they and Worksop both lose their last two games Hyde will make the play offs! Worksop will make the play offs if they get four more points than Ashton or just three more and have a better goal difference! I think that’s noe perfectly clear! I am glad the relegation was sorted by Basford’s 100th minute equaliser!

Second Half score updates;

Matlock 3 Ashton  0        G Wilkinson.  58 mins
Matlock 4 Ashton 0.         H Wood         62 mins
Looks like Ashton have blown it. Worksop now favourites to take the final playoff spot

Liversedge 1 Grantham 1      Bradley Munns    63 mins

Matlock  4 Ashton 1                Couto.  72 mins

Correction - It's still   Matlock 4  Ashton 1

Matlock  5  Ashton. 1   Kuleya.    90 mins

It's finished :  Matlock  5  Ashton United  1

Liversedge. 1 Grantham  2      Ryan Rushen  75 mins

Result :  Liversedge 1. Grantham. 2.    Grantham's win lifts them out of the drop zone

The battle for the final playoff place  (after Ashton's Monday night defeat)

5th Hyde        P40  GD+20   Pts 67   -       No matches left
6th Ashton     P39  GD+12   Pts 67   -       one match left:  v Marine (H))
7th Worksop  P38  GD+19   Pts 64   -       two matches left:  v Guiseley (A) and Atherton (A)

It's so tight - Any of these three could grab the remaining playoff place.
If Worksop win Tuesday's fixture at Guiseley the playoff spot should be theirs (with only Atherton to beat in their final game)
But if Worksop lose at Guiseley then Ashton are back in with a chance.
But Ashton have a very difficult final match against Marine.
So it's possible that Hyde could claim 5th position without playing.
Goal difference could be the decider

Re: This week's midweek matches

Really looking forward to tonight’s match between Worksop and Guiseley.

Worksop can grab the final playoff place by winning both their final games against Guiseley and Atherton. It’s in their own hands.

It’s not impossible for Guiseley to do it but they would have to beat Worksop and Workington by a total of at least 12 goals.

AlfretonTown also play tonight in one of the Nation League North Playoff eliminators.

Re: This week's midweek matches

PERMUTATIONS - Stay with me!

Hyde United can only reach the play offs if Worksop lose by two goals or more and Ashton lose.

Worksop Town need to win and hope Ashton do not win by a margin that is ten goals more than Worksop's winning margin. If Worksop draw they will go into the play offs as long as Ashton do no better than a draw. If Worksop lose they need to hope Ashton lose as well and hope they only lose by one goal as a two goal defeat will open up the play offs for Hyde United.

Ashton need to win and hope Worksop only get at the most a point. If both teams win Ashton need to win by more than a ten goal margin. If Ashton draw they have to hope Worksop lose! if Ashton lose its another season in the NPL and possible the exit for the management team!

Grantham's 2-1 win at Sheffield FC last night means they have avoided relegation from the NPL East/
