Ilkeston v Hednesford UPDATES

Two clean sheets, two games undefeated, four points from possible six! Has a nice ring about it and it has been a long time since Ilkeston fans have been able to make statements like this without being laughed at! Tonight however the boys need to try and extend this run one game further. It will not be easy! Hednesford in my opinion are after Blyth one of the best sides I have seen at the NMG this season. They have stuttered somewhat and their away form is nowhere has good as their home form but they will be clear favourites tonight!
I would expect barring injuries seeing the same line up as Saturday unless there is a last minute loan signing from one of Mr Goaters contacts. If Ilkeston get a point I think they will have done well but if they get all three Shaun will be able to celebrate his birthday on Saturday in the knowledge that the miracle escape could really happen!
Finally a thought for the fans who say they won't attend until our current owners leaves. If you have a couple of hundred grand you can buy the club yourselves but if you have not you need to hope somebody else has who wishes to spend it on a non league football club that will never make money and always give them grief! Maybe the only people who would possibly want to do that are eccentric! Whatever happens it won't be boring it never is at the Theatre of Grief!

Re: Ilkeston v Hednesford UPDATES

Yet another game where Ilkeston played well enough to have gotten at least a point. Hednesford did not look anywhere near as strong as they did in the original fixture especially for the first hour. A farcical defensive mix up led to the visitors opening goal. Ilkeston had a number of chances to get back into the game but lost all hope in the dying minutes when Hednesford added a second goal. Shaun Goater will be realistic and realise that the Robins still a few new faces in order to turn their fortunes around. A goalscorer is desparately needed and maybe a midfield enforcer to bolster things up down the middle.
Ilkestons next game away at Buxton will not be a game they will be expected to get anything from but then again it means they have nothing to lose!

Re: Ilkeston v Hednesford UPDATES

Ilkeston more than held their own against a no nonsense Hednesford. After the game one of the Hednesford officals admitted that Ilkeston played the better football. But it's goals that win matches and we can't score. Dexter had our best chance with another one on one but the keeper pushed away his shot. Ilkeston actually restricted the Hednesford attack to very few chances but two defensive blunders cost us the game. Hednesford's defenders didn't mess about, they cleared the ball upfield at every opportunity in direct contrast to Ilkeston who tried to pass their way out of defence. Hednesford's goals came at the start of the second half and in added time.
Supporters may have noticed that Ilkeston concede a lot more free kicks than their opponents. Coach Steve Welsh threw some light on why this was happening. He said that all of our opponents have more experienced players than us and they know how to work the referee. They are in the referee's ear all the time appealing for everything and complaining about decisions against them. This eventually influences referees' decision making. Our young and inexperienced players are much less vocal (with the exception of Matt Baker) and accept decisions without complaint.
Shaun Goater was disappointed that having defended so well we lost the game because of individual mistakes.
