Redcar Town opened the Northern League Division Two season in front of 196 fans in emphatics style with a 7-1 win away at Washington. Carl Williams scored the first on fourteen minutes and completed his hat trick with goals either side of half time. Williams was replaced after 52 minutes but it did not stop Redcar adding four more goals three of them coming in the last sixteen minutes. Jack Robertson got Washington’s consolation goal but it could not disguise a very traumatic start to the season for Washington. Lucas Coates had a particularly bad night the subs game lasted all of two minutes before he was sent off. On Saturday Jarrow moved into equal second place behind Redcar Town with a comfortable 3-0 over newly promoted Alnwick Town. Howden Community Welfare beat Newcastle University 3-0 with two of their goals coming late in the game. The game was watched by only 43, the lowest attendance of the day. Darlington Town went a goal down at FC Hartlepool but fought back to win 4-2 with Liam Jarvie getting a second half hat-trick. Chester-le-Street Town went to Thornaby and came back with all three points thanks to goals from McBride and Akai. Esh Winning won 2-1 away at Billingham Town in a game that was watched by 434 fans, the biggest gate of the day. Esh took an early lead through Joe Bates only for joe Bennett to equalise. Charlire Twinn restored the visitors lead before the break. Sunderland West End also won away defeating Chester-le-street United with two goals either side of half time. Chester-le Street got a late consolation goal. Ryton and Crawcrook Albion beat Yarm and Eaglescliffe with an early Joseph Groves-Forbes goal. RCA Sunderland also won narrowly with a first half strike with 1-0 win over Boldon Community Association. Newcomers Grangetown Boys Club came back from being two goals down at half-time to draw with Prudhoe in front of 337 fans. And finally Bedlington Terriers were pegged back by a Joe Wheatley goal as they drew 1-1 with Billingham Synthonia.
